Variations in propagation delay times for line ten (TV) based time transfers
Variation in the propagation delay for a 30 km TV (Line Ten) radio link was evaluated for a series of 30 independent measurements. Time marks from TV Channel 5 WTTG in Washington, D.C. were simultaneously measured at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory and at the United States Naval Observatory against each stations' local cesium standard clocks. Differences in the stations' cesium clocks were determined by portable cesium clock transfers. Thirty independent timing determinations were made. The root mean square deviation in the propagation delay calculated from the timing determinations was 11 ns. The variations seen in the propagation delays are believed to be caused by environmental factors and by errors in the portable clock timing measurements. In correlating the propagation delay variations with local weather conditions, only a moderate dependence on air temperature and absolute humidity was found

LWFA With Low Energy Raman Seeded Pulses
Analytical and numerical calculations of plasma wakefield excitation and particle acceleration by Raman seeded laser pulse in self-modulation regime are presented. We derive energy threshold for self-modulation of diffraction-limited pulses. The parameter range where the Raman seeded amplitude plays an important role is investigated. We show that the seeded amplitude provides a coherent control mechanism for the phase of the wakefield wave. We show that with the use of Raman seed self-modulated wakefield acceleration is achievable for the pulses of intensities much lower than those typically used in the experiments. In particular, our 2D particle-in-cell simulations show that 30 mJ pulse combined with Raman seeded pulse, which is 1% in intensity of the main pulse is capable of generating similar to1 nC of relativistic electrons.Physic
Hadron Correlation in Jets
We review some recent experimental and theoretical work on the correlation
among hadrons produced at intermediate at RHIC. The topics include:
forward and backward asymmetry with and without trigger at mid-rapidity,
associated-particle distribution on the near side, the puzzle and its
solution, associated particles on the away side, and two-jet recombination at
LHC.Comment: Talk given at the 11th Workshop on Correlation and Fluctuation in

A New Layer Casting System for Ceramic Laser Rapid Prototyping Apparatus
In the existing Ceramic Laser Fusion system, slurry is fed on the high
temperature surface of the green part; therefore, a part of water infiltrates into the
green block and vaporizes before the process of layer casting. As a result, the slurry
viscosity rises gradually; the quality of the layer surface is not uniform, and the green
part density is uneven. The aim of present study is to develop a new layer casting
system which can solve the problems mentioned above to obtain a green part with
uniform surface quality and density, and to shorten the time-taken of part fabrication.
The first part of the paper illustrates the major requirements and parameters of a slurry
distributor; the second part describes the integration of the slurry feeding device and
layer casting system. The integrated system can feed slurry and cast thin layer
simultaneously; consequently, the drawbacks of the existing system can be eliminated
and the time-taken of the layer casting can be shortened. A variable-frequency drive
(inverter) is used to control the motor speed. The relation between the frequency and
the slurry delivery can be included in the process control program to adjust the
quantity in accordance with the layer thickness; hence, the waste of the slurry can be
reduced.Mechanical Engineerin
Autocorrelation of Hadrons in Jets Produced in Heavy-Ion Collisions
Autocorrelation of two pions produced in heavy-ion collisions at intermediate
is calculated in the framework of the recombination model. The
differences of the pseudo-rapidities and azimuthal angles of the two pions are
related to the angle between two shower partons in a jet. It is shown how the
autocorrelation distribution reveals the properties of jet cone of the shower
partons created by high- partons in hard collisions.Comment: 24 pages in latex and 3 figures. This is an expanded version with

A Measurement of the Absorption of Liquid Argon Scintillation Light by Dissolved Nitrogen at the Part-Per-Million Level
We report on a measurement of the absorption length of scintillation light in
liquid argon due to dissolved nitrogen at the part-per-million (ppm) level. We
inject controlled quantities of nitrogen into a high purity volume of liquid
argon and monitor the light yield from an alpha source. The source is placed at
different distances from a cryogenic photomultiplier tube assembly. By
comparing the light yield from each position we extract the absorption cross
section of nitrogen. We find that nitrogen absorbs argon scintillation light
with strength of ,
corresponding to an absorption cross section of . We obtain the relationship
between absorption length and nitrogen concentration over the 0 to 50 ppm range
and discuss the implications for the design and data analysis of future large
liquid argon time projection chamber (LArTPC) detectors. Our results indicate
that for a current-generation LArTPC, where a concentration of 2 parts per
million of nitrogen is expected, the attenuation length due to nitrogen will be
meters.Comment: v2: Correct mistake in molecular absorption cross section
