Power spectra of the interplanetary magnetic field near the earth
Power spectra of the interplanetary magnetic field measured by near-earth satellites upstream from the earth's bow shock are free from terrestrial contamination provided the field at the satellite does not intersect the bow shock. Considerable spectral enhancement for the range of frequencies 0.01 to 1.00 Hz, due to turbulence caused by the shock, may occur if the field observed at the satellite intersects the shock. This turbulence occurs frequently in both the morning and afternoon quadrants. In the frequency band from 0.07 to 1 Hz, this noise decreases in amplitude with radial distance from the shock with an attenuation length of 4 R sub E
Peripheral Recognition
Perception greatly affects the way we experience and understand the world. Using self-reflective research processes and data collection, I explore how art can subjectively re-present data and what this means for research and knowledge. The artworks through which I discuss these notions are Self Checkout 2013, Bibliography of Virtual Consciousness: Uniform Resource Locator Volumes 1-12 (BOVC:URL 1-12), and Observation Box. Self Checkout 2013 is composed of all of my receipts from 2013. They not only record my transactions, but also re-present data from which one can make inferences regarding my life—my consumer identity, my needs, my desires, etc. BOVC:URL 1-12 re-presents my web history and suggests a reflection on the relationships between physical realities, virtual realities, and the consciousness that mediates experience between them. These forms of data are analyzed by me and through audience participation in Observation Box in an attempt to construct multi-perspectival knowledges from art

Thysanoptera (Thrips) Within Citrus Orchards in Florida: Species Distribution, Relative and Seasonal Abundance Within Trees, and Species on Vines and Ground Cover Plants
Seven citrus orchards on reduced to no pesticide spray programs were sampled for Thysanoptera in central and south central Florida. Inner and outer canopy leaves, fruits, twigs, trunk scrapings, vines and ground cover plants were sampled monthly between January 1995 and January 1996. Thirty-six species of thrips were identified from 2,979 specimens collected from within citrus tree canopies and 18,266 specimens from vines and ground cover plants within the seven citrus orchards. The thrips species included seven predators [Aleurodothrips fasciapennis (Franklin), Karnyothrips flavipes (Jones), K. melaleucus (Bagnall), Leptothrips cassiae (Watson), L. macroocellatus (Watson), L. pini (Watson), and Scolothrips sexmaculatus (Pergande)] 21 plant feeding species [Anaphothrips n. sp., Arorathrips mexicanus (Crawford), Aurantothrips orchidaceous (Bagnall), Baileyothrips limbatus (Hood), Chaetanaphothrips orchidii (Moulton), Danothrips trifasciatus (Sakimura), Echinothrips americanus (Morgan), Frankliniella bispinosa (Morgan), F. cephalica (Crawford), F. fusca (Hinds), F. gossypiana (Hood), Frankliniella sp. (runneri group), Haplothrips gowdeyi (Franklin), Heliothrips haemorrhoidalis (Bouché), Leucothrips piercei (Morgan), Microcephalothrips abdominalis (Crawford), Neohydatothrips floridanus (Watson), N. portoricensis (Morgan), Pseudothrips inequalis (Beach), Scirtothrips sp., and Thrips hawaiiensis (Morgan)]; and eight fungivorous feeding species [Adraneothrips decorus (Hood), Hoplandrothrips pergandei (Hinds), Idolothripinae sp., Merothrips floridensis (Watson), M. morgani (Hood), Neurothrips magnafemoralis (Hinds), Stephanothrips occidentalis Hood and Williams, and Symphyothrips sp.]. Only F. bispinosa, C. orchidii, D. trifasciatus, and H. haemorrhoidalis have been considered economic pests on Florida citrus. Scirtothrips sp. and T. hawaiiensis were recovered in low numbers within Florida citrus orchards. Both are potential pest species to citrus and possibly other crops in Florida. The five most abundant thrips species collected within citrus tree canopies were: A. fasciapennis, F. bispinosa, C. orchidii, K. flavipes, and D. trifasciatus. In comparison, the following five thrips species were most abundant on vines or ground cover plants: F. bispinosa, H. gowdeyi, F. cephalica, M. abdominalis, and F. gossypiana. Local Causal Discovery for Estimating Causal Effects
Even when the causal graph underlying our data is unknown, we can use
observational data to narrow down the possible values that an average treatment
effect (ATE) can take by (1) identifying the graph up to a Markov equivalence
class; and (2) estimating that ATE for each graph in the class. While the PC
algorithm can identify this class under strong faithfulness assumptions, it can
be computationally prohibitive. Fortunately, only the local graph structure
around the treatment is required to identify the set of possible ATE values, a
fact exploited by local discovery algorithms to improve computational
efficiency. In this paper, we introduce Local Discovery using Eager Collider
Checks (LDECC), a new local causal discovery algorithm that leverages
unshielded colliders to orient the treatment's parents differently from
existing methods. We show that there exist graphs where LDECC exponentially
outperforms existing local discovery algorithms and vice versa. Moreover, we
show that LDECC and existing algorithms rely on different faithfulness
assumptions, leveraging this insight to weaken the assumptions for identifying

The Hymenoptera Genome Database
The Hymenoptera Genome Database (HGD) is an informatics resource supporting genomics of hymenopteran insect species. This relational database implements open-source software and components providing access to curated data contributed by an extensive, active research community. HGD includes the genome sequences and annotation data of honey bee _Apis mellifera_ and its pathogens ("http://BeeBase.org":BeeBase.org) the parasitoid wasp _Nasonia vitripennis_ ("http://NasoniaBase.org":NasoniaBase.org) and a portal to the genomes of six species of ants. Together, these species cover approximately 200 MY in the phylogeny of Hymenoptera, allowing to leverage genetic, genome sequence, and gene expression data, as well as the biological knowledge of related model organisms. The availability of resources across an order greatly facilitates comparative genomics and enhances our understanding of the biology of agriculturally important Hymenoptera species through genomics. HGD has supported research contributions from an extensive community from almost 80 institutions in 14 countries. Community annotation efforts are made possible thanks to a remote connection to a Chado database by Apollo Genome Annotation client software. Curated data at HGD includes predicted and annotated gene sets supported with evidence tracks such as ESTs/cDNAs, small RNA sequences and GC composition domains. Data at HGD can be queried using genome browsers and / or BLAST/PSI-BLAST servers, and it may also be downloaded to perform local searches. We encourage the public to access and contribute data to HGD at "http://HymenopteraGenome.org":HymenopteraGenome.org.

Laparoscopic Sacral Colpopexy: A Proposed Technique
This case report describes a laparoscopic sacral colpopexy using Mersilene mesh in a patient with complete vaginal vault prolapse. Mersilene mesh was placed as a hammock between the vaginal apex and the anterior surface of the sacrum, using intracorporeal needles and an extracorporeal knot tying technique. Minor modifications are made from the traditional abdominal approach, because the patient had previously undergone a pelvic lymphadenectomy and vaginal cuff radiation for a stage IB grade 1 adenocarcinoma of the endometrium
