Fractionation of Vipera berus berus Snake Venom and Detection of Bioactive Compounds Targeted to Blood Coagulation System
Introduction. The performed research focused on a search for new biologically active compounds acting on blood coagulation system proteins and cells. To achieve this goal, we fractionated Vipera berus berus snake venom and studied the action of the separated fractions on human blood plasma, fibrinogen, platelets or red cells.
Methods. Crude venom was fractionated using ion-exchange chromatography. Protein composition of fractions was studied using SDS-PAGE. The ability of fractions to prolong or initiate blood plasma clotting was studied using the prothrombin time test with thromboplastin. Fibrinogen-specific proteases were detected using enzyme-electrophoresis. Action on red cells was estimated using the hemolysis test. Aggregometry was used for the detection of action on platelets. All experiments in this study were performed in vitro.
Results. We obtained fractions containing phospholipase and a protease that is able to hydrolyze fibrinogen, leading to the loss of its ability to polymerize and to maintain platelet aggregation.
Conclusion. Further purification and study of these components can be a promising research direction for biotechnological as well as for biomedical use
Job satisfaction as mediator: An assessment of job satisfaction's position within the nomological network
Job satisfaction\u27s position within the nomological network and the mechanism outlined by theories of social exchange suggest that job satisfaction functions as a mediator of the relationship between various antecedent variables and volitional workplace behaviours. We extend social exchange theory to include perceptions of the total job situation and develop a model that positions job satisfaction as a mediator of the relationships between various internal and external antecedent variables, and three volitional workplace behaviours: citizenship behaviours, counterproductive workplace behaviours, and job withdrawal. The fit of a fully mediated model is good and all four classes of antecedents (dispositions, workplace events, job characteristics, job opportunities) contributed uniquely to the prediction of satisfaction. Job satisfaction is also shown to mediate most antecedentâconsequence relationships, although two important exceptions are evident. A direct link from proâsocial disposition to OCBs, and a direct link and one from antiâsocial disposition to counterproductivity, suggest that job satisfaction does not fully moderate the relationships between dispositions and contextual behaviours
Entrepreneurship, professionalism, leadership: A framework and measure for understanding boundaryless careers
We propose a person-centered framework for conceptualizing subjective careers in an increasingly boundaryless work context. Specifically, we argue that entrepreneurship, professionalism, and leadership (EPL) can serve as three key dimensions of subjective career space. We relate this framework to earlier macro-level national and organizational career models proposed by Kanter (1989) and Schein (1978). Our empirical study involving 10,326 Singaporean university students demonstrated that entrepreneurial, professional, and leadership career aspirations (including motivations, efficacies, and intentions) can be measured independently, that these career dimensions are independent of vocational interests, and that they are to some degree viewed as competing career alternatives. We also show that EPL motivation profiles can operationalize the boundaryless and protean career concepts. Individuals concurrently high in entrepreneurial, professional, and leadership career motivations, and those high in entrepreneurial and leadership motivations are highest in boundaryless and self-directed career attitudes, while those primarily motivated for professional careers hold the most traditional career attitudes. We conclude by discussing the potential of the framework for understanding human resource issues at organizational and national levels and for enhancing the study of entrepreneurship, professionalism, and leadership
International Perspectives on the Legal Environment for Selection
Perspectives from 22 countries on aspects of the legal environment for selection are presented in this article. Issues addressed include (a) whether there are racial/ethnic/religious subgroups viewed as "disadvantaged,â (b) whether research documents mean differences between groups on individual difference measures relevant to job performance, (c) whether there are laws prohibiting discrimination against specific groups, (d) the evidence required to make and refute a claim of discrimination, (e) the consequences of violation of the laws, (f) whether particular selection methods are limited or banned, (g) whether preferential treatment of members of disadvantaged groups is permitted, and (h) whether the practice of industrial and organizational psychology has been affected by the legal environmen
Multidifferential study of identified charged hadron distributions in -tagged jets in proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV
Jet fragmentation functions are measured for the first time in proton-proton
collisions for charged pions, kaons, and protons within jets recoiling against
a boson. The charged-hadron distributions are studied longitudinally and
transversely to the jet direction for jets with transverse momentum 20 GeV and in the pseudorapidity range . The
data sample was collected with the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy
of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.64 fb. Triple
differential distributions as a function of the hadron longitudinal momentum
fraction, hadron transverse momentum, and jet transverse momentum are also
measured for the first time. This helps constrain transverse-momentum-dependent
fragmentation functions. Differences in the shapes and magnitudes of the
measured distributions for the different hadron species provide insights into
the hadronization process for jets predominantly initiated by light quarks.Comment: All figures and tables, along with machine-readable versions and any

Study of the decay
The decay is studied
in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of TeV
using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5
collected by the LHCb experiment. In the system, the
state observed at the BaBar and Belle experiments is
resolved into two narrower states, and ,
whose masses and widths are measured to be where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second
systematic. The results are consistent with a previous LHCb measurement using a
prompt sample. Evidence of a new
state is found with a local significance of , whose mass and width
are measured to be and , respectively. In addition, evidence of a new decay mode
is found with a significance of
. The relative branching fraction of with respect to the
decay is measured to be , where the first
uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third originates from

Applications of Ideal Point Approaches to Scale Construction and Scoring in Personality Measurement: The Development of a Six-Faceted Measure of Conscientiousness
198 p.Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2002.Results clearly showed that the ideal point approach was more advantageous than traditionally used methods. First, ideal point models showed better fits to personality items. Second, the greater flexibility of ideal point model allowed utilization of greater numbers of items for scale construction. The ideal point model could readily use items located in the middle of the trait continuum, while traditional approaches found them virtually useless. Third, scales designed using the ideal point model provided more information, and, hence greater measurement precision. Results also indicated that new ideal point scales showed evidence of construct validity.
