A singular multi-dimensional piston problem in compressible flow

    Get PDF
AbstractThis paper concerns the multi-dimensional piston problem, which is a special initial boundary value problem of multi-dimensional unsteady potential flow equation. The problem is defined in a domain bounded by two conical surfaces, one of them is shock, whose location is also to be determined. By introducing self-similar coordinates, the problem can be reduced to a free boundary value problem of an elliptic equation. The existence of the problem is proved by using partial hodograph transformation and nonlinear alternating iteration. The result also shows the stability of the structure of shock front in symmetric case under small perturbation

Green technology is a significant means to improve the environment and achieve sustainable development goals. According to the data of Chinese provincial panel from 2000 to 2016, our study investigated the spatial effect of environmental research and development (R&D) activities on SO2 intensity using the dynamic spatial Durbin model. First, SO2 intensity in China was shown to have obvious spatial correlation, strong path dependence, and spatial agglomeration features of ‘high-high’ as well as ‘low-low’. Second, both in the short- and long-term, environmental R&D activities had an essential negative influence on local SO2 intensity, but no significant effect on SO2 intensity in the neighbouring areas, indicating that the SO2 intensity reduction effect of environmental R&D activities was confined to local areas. Moreover, the long-term effect of environmental R&D activities on SO2 intensity was not enhanced, indicating that China’s existing green technology is insufficient, which hinders the spillover influences of environmental R&D activities. Third, the short- as well as long-term effects of practical-type R&D on SO2 intensity were significantly negative, indicating that practical-type R&D can effectively reduce SO2 intensity. Inventiontype R&D had a significant negative effect on local SO2 intensity, but no significant effect on neighbouring areas

Previous studies on the effectiveness of improving sustainable development have acknowledged the importance of domestic research and development (R&D) activities. However, these studies remain general and ambiguous because they assume that all R&D activities are related to energy-saving and sustainable development. The corresponding empirical evidence is scabrous and ambiguous. In this paper, we focus on the effect of green innovation R&D activities on SO2 emission which is an important greenhouse gas affect global climate change and eco-civilization. Considering that there is heterogeneity exists in the innovation activities, the R&D activities are divided into three performers with two purposes. The empirical results based on a Chinese inter-provincial dataset of 2000-2016 suggest that the green innovation R&D activities are crucial for the reduction of the SO2 emission. However, the innovation R&D activities of different purposes and performers show statistically differentiated effects on SO2 emission. The major positive effect of green innovation R&D activities on SO2 emissions reduction is mainly from enterprises and utility-type of R&D activities. A further study based on the panel threshold also indicates that effects of green innovation R&D activities on SO2 emissions are nonlinear, depending on the technology absorptive ability. Główny pozytywny wpływ działań B + R w zakresie zielonych innowacji na redukcję emisji SO2 wynika głównie z działalności przedsiębiorstw i działalności B + R o charakterze użytkowym. Dalsze badanie oparte na panelu wskazuje również, że wpływ działań badawczo-rozwojowych związanych z zielonymi innowacjami na emisje SO2 jest nieliniowy, w zależności od zdolności absorpcyjnej technologii

ObjectivesThis study aimed to explore the relationship between computed tomography (CT)-based radiomic phenotypes and genomic profiles, including expression of programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) and the 10 major genes, such as epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), tumor protein 53 (TP53), and Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene (KRAS), in patients with lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD).MethodsIn total, 288 consecutive patients with pathologically confirmed LUAD were enrolled in this retrospective study. Radiomic features were extracted from preoperative CT images, and targeted genomic data were profiled through next-generation sequencing. PD-L1 expression was assessed by immunohistochemistry staining (chi-square test or Fisher's exact test for categorical data and the Kruskal–Wallis test for continuous data). A total of 1,013 radiomic features were obtained from each patient's CT images. Consensus clustering was used to cluster patients on the basis of radiomic features.ResultsThe 288 patients were classified according to consensus clustering into four radiomic phenotypes: Cluster 1 (n = 11) involving mainly large solid masses with a maximum diameter of 5.1 ± 2.0 cm; Clusters 2 and 3 involving mainly part-solid and solid masses with maximum diameters of 2.1 ± 1.4 cm and 2.1 ± 0.9 cm, respectively; and Cluster 4 involving mostly small ground-glass opacity lesions with a maximum diameter of 1.0 ± 0.9 cm. Differences in maximum diameter, PD-L1 expression, and TP53, EGFR, BRAF, ROS1, and ERBB2 mutations among the four clusters were statistically significant. Regarding targeted therapy and immunotherapy, EGFR mutations were highest in Cluster 2 (73.1%); PD-L1 expression was highest in Cluster 1 (45.5%).ConclusionOur findings provide evidence that CT-based radiomic phenotypes could non-invasively identify LUADs with different molecular characteristics, showing the potential to provide personalized treatment decision-making support for LUAD patients

IntroductionTuta absoluta is currently considered one of the most devastating invasive pests of solanaceous plants worldwide, causing severe damage to the tomato industry. Insects use volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to locate host plant for feeding and oviposition. Those VOCs could be developed as lures for pest monitoring and control.MethodsIn this study, the differentially accumulated VOCs between the preferred host (tomato) and non-preferred host (eggplant) were analyzed by GC–MS method, and their roles on female T. absoluta host selection and egg laying behaviors were investigated using electroantennography (EAG), olfactometer and cage experiments.ResultsA total of 39 differentially accumulated VOCs were identified in tomato and eggplant. Strong EAG signals were obtained in 9 VOCs, including 5 VOCs highly accumulated in tomato and 4 VOCs highly accumulated in eggplant. Further olfactometer bioassays showed that 4 compounds (1-nonanol, ethyl heptanoate, ethyl octanoate and o-nitrophenol) were attractive to T. absoluta females, while 5 compounds (2-phenylethanol, 2-pentylfuran, trans,trans-2,4-nonadienal, 2-ethyl-5-methylpyrazine and trans-2-nonenal) were repellent, indicating that VOCs from host plants play important roles in host plant preferences. The attractive activities of 1-nonanol and ethyl octanoate, as well as the repellent activities of trans,trans-2,4-nonadienal and trans-2-nonenal, were further confirmed in cage experiments.DiscussionIn this study, two attractants and two repellents for T. absoluta were developed from plant released VOCs. Our results could be useful to enhance the development of eco-friendly and sustainable pest management strategies for T. absoluta

Pepper mild mottle virus (PMMoV) poses a significant threat to pepper production because it is highly contagious and extremely persistent in soil. Despite this threat, little is known about the molecular processes that underlie plant responses to pepper mild mottle virus. Here, we performed RNA sequencing of tolerant (“17-p63”) and susceptible (“16-217”) pepper genotypes after pepper mild mottle virus or mock inoculation. Viral accumulation in systemic leaves was lower in the pepper mild mottle virus-resistant 17-p63 genotype than in the pepper mild mottle virus-sensitive 16-217 genotype, and infection symptoms were more apparent in systemic leaves of 16-217 than in those of 17-p63 at the same timepoints during the infection process. We identified 2,959 and 2,159 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in systemic leaves of infected 16-217 and 17-p63, respectively. Through Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis of differentially expressed genes from both genotypes revealed significant enrichment of the MAPK signaling pathway, plant–pathogen interaction, and flavonoid biosynthesis. A number of differentially expressed genes showed opposite trends in relation to stress resistance and disease defense in the two genotypes. We also performed weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) of all samples and identified modules associated with resistance to pepper mild mottle virus, as well as seven hub genes. These results identify candidate virus resistance genes and provide insight into pepper defense mechanisms against pepper mild mottle virus

CTAB-Assisted Hydrothermal Synthesis of Bi 2

Pyrochlore-type Bi2Sn2O7 (BSO) nanoparticles have been prepared by a hydrothermal method assisted with a cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). These BSO products were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), and UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). The results indicated that CTAB alters the surface parameters and the morphology and enhances the photoinduced charge separation rate of BSO. The photocatalytic degradation test using rhodamine B as a model pollutant showed that the photocatalytic activity of the BSO assisted with CTAB was two times that of the reference BSO. Close investigation revealed that the size, the band gap, the structure, and the existence of impurity level played an important role in the photocatalytic activities

This study was conducted to synthesize a series of nanosized BiOI-TiO2 catalysts to photodegrade Bisphenol A solution. The BiOI-TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized in the reverse microemulsions, consisting of cyclohexane, Triton X-100, n-hexanol, and aqueous salt solutions. The synthesized particles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface analyzer, Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), ultraviolet-visible light (UV-Vis) absorption spectra and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The photodegradation of Bisphenol A (BPA) in aqueous suspension under visible light irradiation was investigated to explore the feasibility of using the photocatalytic method to treat BPA wastewater. The effects of different molar ratios of BiOI to TiO2 on the photocatalytic activity were discussed. The experimental results revealed that the photocatalytic effect of the BiOI-TiO2 particles was superior to the commercial P25 TiO2. The BPA degradation could be approached by a pseudo-first-order rate expression. The observed reaction rate constant (kobs) was related to nanoparticles dosage and initial solution pH
