    Foreign inflows, commercial law, and dutch disease: Evidence from developing economies

    It is commonly believed that developing markets require inflows of foreign capital to achieve their growth targets; however, recent research has shown that these inflows are either ineffective or even harmful to the economy. A surge in foreign inflows, such as foreign aid, remittances, and foreign direct investment, into developing markets, particularly, have been connected to the Dutch disease hypothesis. A sharp rise in such inflows will stimulate real exchange rate in receiving nations due to the uptick in the non-tradable sector and the downturn in the tradable sector. The purpose of this research is to investigate, using quantitative approaches, the variations of real exchange rate adjustments that occur in response to official development assistance, foreign direct investments, and international remittances flowing into developing markets. To investigate the onset of Dutch Disease over the period 2001–2020, this analysis makes use of panel data estimation techniques in the form of fixed and random effect models The findings of a substantial amount of econometric investigation revealed that Dutch Disease is present in developing countries. The scope of the study has been broadened to include an investigation of the expansion of both tradable and non-tradable industries. According to the findings of this study, larger inflows of foreign capital slow growth in the tradable sector (the industrial sector), while simultaneously boosting growth in the non-tradable sector (Service sector)

    Chinese language teachers’ dichotomous identities when teaching ingroup and outgroup students

    Research into second language teacher identity has experienced a shift in recent years from a cognitive perspective to social constructionist orientation. The existing research in Chinese language literature in relation to Foreign Language (CFL) teachers’ identity shift is principally in relation to the change of social, cultural, and institutional contexts. Built on the current literature, this research asks: “How might teachers’ self-images or self-conceptualizations be renegotiated when they are located within their own mainstream cultural and educational system, yet comprised of students from various cultural backgrounds?” The data were collected from a group of CFL teachers in a South China university. The research found that students’ backgrounds largely impacted on, and led to, the teachers’ dichotomous relational identities, but did not dramatically change the teachers’ perception on what or how much subject knowledge to be possessed to make an ideal CFL teacher. This attribute of their identity was sustained even though the teaching content was modified at a practical level in response to groups’ differences. Further, the CFL teachers’ pedagogical identity remained stable with only minor modifications when teaching “ingroups” and “outgroups” of students

    Arginine Alters miRNA Expression Involved in Development and Proliferation of Rat Mammary Tissue

    This study was designed to determine the effects of dietary arginine on development and proliferation in rat mammary tissue through changes in miRNA profiles. Twelve pregnant Wistar rats were allocated randomly to two groups. A basal diet containing arginine or the control diet containing glutamate on an equal nitrogen basis as the arginine supplemented diet were used. The experiment included a pre-experimental period of four days before parturition and an experimental period of 17 days after parturition. Mammary tissue was collected for histology, RNA extraction and high-throughput sequencing analysis. The greater mammary acinar area indicated that arginine supplementation enhanced mammary tissue development (p < 0.01). MicroRNA profiling indicated that seven miRNA (miR-206-3p, miR-133a-5p, miR-133b-3p, miR-1-3p, miR-133a-3p, miR-1b and miR-486) were differentially expressed in response to Arginine when compared with the glutamate-based control group. In silico gene ontology enrichment and KEGG pathway analysis revealed between 240 and 535 putative target genes among the miRNA. Further verification by qPCR revealed concordance with the differential expression from the sequencing results: 17 of 28 target genes were differentially expressed (15 were highly expressed in arginine and 2 in control) and 11 target genes did not have significant difference in expression. In conclusion, our study suggests that arginine may potentially regulate the development of rat mammary glands through regulating miRNAs

    Role and therapeutic potential of DEAD-box RNA helicase family in colorectal cancer

    Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most commonly diagnosed and the second cancer-related death worldwide, leading to more than 0.9 million deaths every year. Unfortunately, this disease is changing rapidly to a younger age, and in a more advanced stage when diagnosed. The DEAD-box RNA helicase proteins are the largest family of RNA helicases so far. They regulate almost every aspect of RNA physiological processes, including RNA transcription, editing, splicing and transport. Aberrant expression and critical roles of the DEAD-box RNA helicase proteins have been found in CRC. In this review, we first summarize the protein structure, cellular distribution, and diverse biological functions of DEAD-box RNA helicases. Then, we discuss the distinct roles of DEAD-box RNA helicase family in CRC and describe the cellular mechanism of actions based on recent studies, with an aim to provide future strategies for the treatment of CRC

    Determination of folic acid and its related substances of the ferrous fumarate and folic acid dispersible tablet by HPLC

    The aim of the present study was to establish a method for the determination of folic acid and related substances content in dispersible tablets. Method: A Shim-pack VP-ODS C18 reversed phase column (4.6 mm × 250 mm) was used. The mobile phase consisted of methanol-phosphate buffer (20:80) with a pH of 6.3.The flow rate was 1.0 mL/min, and the detection wavelength was 277nm and the column temperature was 30 °C. Results: The calibration curve was linear in the range of 5~150 ÎŒg/mL (r = 0.9998) for folic acid. The minimal detection limit was 99.08 %, n = 9 and the related substances were well separated. This method resulted to be convenient, accurate, selective and reliable, and can be applied for the quality control of folic acid.Colegio de FarmacĂ©uticos de la Provincia de Buenos Aire

    MicroRNA-275 and its target vitellogenin-2 are crucial in ovary development and blood digestion of Haemaphysalis longicornis

    Background: The hard tick Haemaphysalis longicornis is widely distributed in eastern Asia, New Zealand and Australia and is considered the major vector of Theileria and Babesia, harmful parasites to humans and animals. Female ticks need successful blood meals to complete the life-cycle. Therefore, elucidation of the underlying molecular mechanisms of H. longicornis development and reproduction is considered important for developing control strategies against the tick and tick-borne pathogens. Methods: Luciferase assays were used to identify the targets of micro RNA miR-275 in vitro. RNAi of Vitellogenin (Vg) was used in phenotype rescue experiments of ticks with miR-275 inhibition, and these analyses were used to identify the authentic target of miR-275 in vivo. The expression of miR-275 in different tissues and developmental stages of ticks was assessed by real-time PCR. To elucidate the functions of miR-275 in female ticks, we injected a miR-275 antagomir into female ticks and observed the phenotypic changes. Statistical analyses were performed with GraphPad5 using Student’s t-test. Results: In this study, we identified Vg-2 as an authentic target of miR-275 both in vitro and in vivo by luciferase assays and phenotype rescue experiments. miR-275 plays the regulatory role in a tissue-specific manner and differentially in developmental stages. Silencing of miR-275 resulted in blood digestion problems, substantially impaired ovary development and significantly reduced egg mass (P < 0.0001). Furthermore, RNAi silencing of Vg-2 not only impacted the blood meal uptake (P < 0.05) but also the egg mass (P < 0.05). Significant rescue was observed in miR-275 knockout ticks when RNAi was applied to Vg-2. Conclusion: To our knowledge, this study is the first demonstration that miR-275 targets Vg-2 in H. longicornis and regulates the functions of blood digestion and ovary development. These findings improve the molecular understanding of tick development and reproduction

    Radiation therapy in the era of immune treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma

    Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have revolutionized cancer treatment in recent years and provide new opportunities to treat hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). To date, several ICIs have been approved by the FDA for advanced HCC in first-line or second-line therapy. Downstaging conversion therapy for potentially resectable HCC to provide opportunities for surgical intervention is challenging. ICIs have become a hot spot in this field due to their high response rate. However, HCC has various etiologies and can evade the immune system through multiple mechanisms, which limit the efficacy of ICI monotherapy and demand novel combination strategies. Radiation therapy (RT) is also a candidate for conversion therapy in HCC and is currently gaining increasing attention as a good combination partner with ICIs due to its ability to modulate the tumor microenvironment. In this review, we illustrate the current indications for ICIs and RT in HCC, the rationale for their synergistic combination, and the current clinical trials in combination therapy. We also speculate on predictive biomarkers and novel future strategies to further enhance the efficacy of this combination. This review aims to provide references for future research on radiation and immunotherapy to arrive at a promising new era of HCC treatment

    Triptolide modulates adriamycin sensitivity via regulating Mir-21 and Bcl-2 expression in K562/A02 cell line

    Drug resistance is a major obstacle for successful treatment of leukemia. Increasing evidence suggests that microRNA-21 (miR-21) is over-expressed in K562/A02 cell line, promoting drug resistance. The aim of our present study is to investigate the reversal effects of triptolide on drug resistance in adriamycin-resistant cells. Cell viability was measured by MTT assays and adriamycin induced apoptosis was evaluated by flow cytometry. Levels of miR-21 quantified by real-time PCR. Bcl-2 protein level were measured by western blot. TPL enhanced sensitivity of K562/A02 cells to adriamycin and promoted adriamycin–induced apoptosis. Levels of miR-21 and Bcl-2 was significantly decreased after triptolide treatment. Transfection with anti-miR-21, a significant up-regulation of sensitivity to adriamycin and a significant down-regulation of Bcl-2 protein level was noted in K562/A02 cells. Our study suggests that triptolide significantly sensitizes K562/A02 cell to adriamycin by inducing apoptosis and these effects of triptolide may be due to its down-regulation of miR-21.Colegio de FarmacĂ©uticos de la Provincia de Buenos Aire
