    The research progress on Hodograph Method of aerodynamic design at Tsinghua University

    Progress in the use of the Hodograph method of aerodynamic design is discussed. It was found that there are some restricted conditions in the application of Hodograph design to transonic turbine and compressor cascades. The Hodograph method is suitable not only to the transonic turbine cascade but also to the transonic compressor cascade. The three dimensional Hodograph method will be developed after obtaining the basic equation for the three dimensional Hodograph method. As an example of the Hodograph method, the use of the method to design a transonic turbine and compressor cascade is discussed

    The use of the Hodograph Method in the design of a transonic compressor cascade is discussed. The design of the flow mode in the transonic compressor cascade must be as follows: the flow in the nozzle part should be uniform and smooth; the location of the sonic line should be reasonable; and the aerodynamic character of the flow canal in the subsonic region should be met. The rate through cascade may be determined by the velocity distribution in the subsonic region (i.e., by the numerical solution of the Chaplygin equation). The supersonic sections A'C' and AD are determined by the analytical solution of the Mixed-Type Hodograph equation

    Transformed Primal-Dual Methods For Nonlinear Saddle Point Systems

    A transformed primal-dual (TPD) flow is developed for a class of nonlinear smooth saddle point system. The flow for the dual variable contains a Schur complement which is strongly convex. Exponential stability of the saddle point is obtained by showing the strong Lyapunov property. Several TPD iterations are derived by implicit Euler, explicit Euler, and implicit-explicit methods of the TPD flow. Generalized to the symmetric TPD iterations, linear convergence rate is preserved for convex-concave saddle point systems under assumptions that the regularized functions are strongly convex. The effectiveness of augmented Lagrangian methods can be explained as a regularization of the non-strongly convexity and a preconditioning for the Schur complement. The algorithm and convergence analysis depends crucially on appropriate inner products of the spaces for the primal variable and dual variable. A clear convergence analysis with nonlinear inexact inner solvers is also developed

    Employee Integrity and Corporate External Information Quality

    Prior studies find dishonest top executives are associated with lower quality financial reporting. We focus on the role of rank-and-file employees in shaping financial data quality in that these employees are the sources of internal information transfer. Using a novel dataset that contains information on registrants using the Ashley Madison website to find extra-marital affair partners, we construct a firm-level employee integrity measure and assess the association between employee integrity and firm’s information quality. We find that low integrity of rank-and-file employees is associated with lower earnings quality and less accurate management forecasts, and we mitigate the potential endogeneity problem by estimating 2SLS regressions with instrument variables exogenous to firms’ information quality choices. Further analyses show that the negative relation between employee integrity and information quality is attenuated by higher managerial ability, and is robust to alternative employee integrity measures

    Estimating a Treatment Effect with Repeated Measurements Accounting for Varying Effectiveness Duration

    To assess treatment efficacy in clinical trials, certain clinical outcomes are repeatedly measured for same subject over time. They can be regarded as function of time. The difference in their mean functions between the treatment arms usually characterises a treatment effect. Due to the potential existence of subject-specific treatment effectiveness lag and saturation times, erosion of treatment effect in the difference may occur during the observation period of time. Instead of using ad hoc parametric or purely nonparametric time-varying coefficients in statistical modeling, we first propose to model the treatment effectiveness durations, which are the varying time intervals between the lag and saturation times. Then some mean response models are used to include such treatment effectiveness durations. Our methodologies are demonstrated by simulations and an application to the dataset of a landmark HIV/AIDS clinical trial of short-course nevirapine against mother-to-child HIV vertical transmission during labour and delivery

    Accelerated Hazards Model: Method, Theory and Applications

    In an accelerated hazards model, the hazard functions of a failure time are related through the time scale-change, which is often a function of covariates and associated parameters. When the hazard functions have special properties, such as monotonicity in time, the parameters may be clinically meaningful in measuring a treatment effect. This paper reviews methodological and theoretical development of this model. Applications of the accelerated hazards model including sample size calculation in clinical trials, are also explored

    Association Between Social Integration and Health Among Internal Migrants in ZhongShan, China

    Internal migrants are the individuals who migrate between regions in one country. The number of internal migrants were estimated at 245 million in China in 2013. Results were inconsistent in the literature about the relationship between their health statuses and social integration. The main difference exists on how to measure the social integration and whether health statuses of internal migrants improve with years of residence. To complement the existing literature, this study measured social integration more comprehensively and estimated the internal migrants\u27 health statuses with varying years of residence, and explored the associations between the migrants\u27 social integration and health. We used the data from 2014 Internal Migrant Dynamic Monitoring Survey of Health and Family Planning in ZhongShan, China. Health status was measured from four aspects: self-reported health, subjective well-being, perception of stress, mental health. We measured social integration through four dimensions: economy, social communication, acculturation, and self-identity. The analyses used multiple linear regressions to examine the associations between selfreported health, subjective well-being, and perception of stress, mental health and social integration. The analytical sample included 1,999 households of the internal migrants and 1,997 local registered households, who were permanent residents in ZhongShan. Among the internal migrants, Adults in the labor force, who were aged 25 to 44 years old, accounted for 91.2% of the internal migrant population, while 74.6% of the registered population were in that age group. Median residential time among migrants was 2.8 (1.3-6.2) years, and 20.2% of them were migrating in the same Guangdong province. Except for mental health, other health statuses among migrants had significant differences compared with local registered population, e. g. self-reported health was better, but subjective well-being was worse. However, these health measurements were improved with more years of residence. Moreover, our results show that two aspects of social integration, economic integration and selfidentity, were significantly associated with health status. Subjective feeling of relative social status levels were more associated with health, which prompted the attention to social fairness and the creation of a fair and respectful culture. More interventions could be experimented, such as encouraging internal migrants to participate in community activities more actively, educating local registered residents to treat internal migrants more equally, and developing self-identity among internal migrants. Better social, economic, and cultural environment can benefit internal migrants\u27 health statuses
