Search for serendipitous TNO occultation in X-rays
To study the population properties of small, remote objects beyond Neptune's
orbit in the outer solar system, of kilometer size or smaller, serendipitous
occultation search is so far the only way. For hectometer-sized Trans-Neptunian
Objects (TNOs), optical shadows actually disappear because of diffraction.
Observations at shorter wave lengths are needed. Here we report the effort of
TNO occultation search in X-rays using RXTE/PCA data of Sco X-1 taken from June
2007 to October 2011. No definite TNO occultation events were found in the 334
ks data. We investigate the detection efficiency dependence on the TNO size to
better define the sensible size range of our approach and suggest upper limits
to the TNO size distribution in the size range from 30 m to 300 m. A list of
X-ray sources suitable for future larger facilities to observe is proposed.Comment: Accepted to publish in MNRA
Human Processes in Customer Relationship Management
Customer relationship management (CRM) is a combination of people, processes, and technology that seeks to provide understanding of customer needs, to support a business strategy, and to build long-term relationships with customers. Successful utilization of the integrated technology requires appropriate business processes and organizational culture to adequately address human behavioral elements. Because it is not simply a technology solution, success in CRM business revolves largely around people. In order to build a clearer understanding of the content and role of the human processes of CRM, this study analyzes the literature on CRM processes and people dependencies and forms propositions about the need for human processes in CRM. It emphasizes the responsibility of executives and operational staff in making critical decisions and using intimate communications to conduct relationship management with their customers. Typical CRM human processes are those that are difficult to implement or that cannot be carried on using technology solutions alone, including such activities as planning customer strategy, designing CRM processes, coping with customer problems, understanding customer needs, handling intimate communications, and integrating customer responses. Factors that affect the dependency of human processes in CRM are related to customer factors, the content of information, employee capabilities, and the organizational environment. Propositions formed in this study are that the dependency on human processes in CRM is affected by (1) customer emotional needs; (2) the need for tacit customer information; (3) employees’ experience; and (4) the organizational culture
A Study on the Effect of Design Factors of Slim Keyboard's Tactile Feedback
With the rapid development of computer technology,
the design of computers and keyboards moves towards a trend of
slimness. The change of mobile input devices directly influences
users' behavior. Although multi-touch applications allow entering
texts through a virtual keyboard, the performance, feedback, and
comfortableness of the technology is inferior to traditional keyboard,
and while manufacturers launch mobile touch keyboards and
projection keyboards, the performance has not been satisfying.
Therefore, this study discussed the design factors of slim
pressure-sensitive keyboards. The factors were evaluated with an
objective (accuracy and speed) and a subjective evaluation
(operability, recognition, feedback, and difficulty) depending on the
shape (circle, rectangle, and L-shaped), thickness (flat, 3mm, and
6mm), and force (35±10g, 60±10g, and 85±10g) of the keyboard.
Moreover, MANOVA and Taguchi methods (regarding
signal-to-noise ratios) were conducted to find the optimal level of each
design factor. The research participants, by their typing speed (30
words/ minute), were divided in two groups. Considering the
multitude of variables and levels, the experiments were implemented
using the fractional factorial design. A representative model of the
research samples were established for input task testing. The findings
of this study showed that participants with low typing speed primarily
relied on vision to recognize the keys, and those with high typing
speed relied on tactile feedback that was affected by the thickness and
force of the keys. In the objective and subjective evaluation, a
combination of keyboard design factors that might result in higher
performance and satisfaction was identified (L-shaped, 3mm, and
60±10g) as the optimal combination. The learning curve was analyzed
to make a comparison with a traditional standard keyboard to
investigate the influence of user experience on keyboard operation.
The research results indicated the optimal combination provided input
performance to inferior to a standard keyboard. The results could serve
as a reference for the development of related products in industry and
for applying comprehensively to touch devices and input interfaces
which are interacted with people

RVSL: Robust Vehicle Similarity Learning in Real Hazy Scenes Based on Semi-supervised Learning
Recently, vehicle similarity learning, also called re-identification (ReID),
has attracted significant attention in computer vision. Several algorithms have
been developed and obtained considerable success. However, most existing
methods have unpleasant performance in the hazy scenario due to poor
visibility. Though some strategies are possible to resolve this problem, they
still have room to be improved due to the limited performance in real-world
scenarios and the lack of real-world clear ground truth. Thus, to resolve this
problem, inspired by CycleGAN, we construct a training paradigm called
\textbf{RVSL} which integrates ReID and domain transformation techniques. The
network is trained on semi-supervised fashion and does not require to employ
the ID labels and the corresponding clear ground truths to learn hazy vehicle
ReID mission in the real-world haze scenes. To further constrain the
unsupervised learning process effectively, several losses are developed.
Experimental results on synthetic and real-world datasets indicate that the
proposed method can achieve state-of-the-art performance on hazy vehicle ReID
problems. It is worth mentioning that although the proposed method is trained
without real-world label information, it can achieve competitive performance
compared to existing supervised methods trained on complete label information.Comment: Accepted by ECCV 202
Neel tensor torque at the ferromagnet/antiferromagnet interface
Antiferromagnets (AFMs) exhibit spin arrangements with no net magnetization,
positioning them as promising candidates for spintronics applications. While
electrical manipulation of the single-crystal AFMs, composed of periodic spin
configurations, is achieved recently, it remains a daunting challenge to
characterize and to manipulate polycrystalline AFMs. Utilizing statistical
analysis in data science, we demonstrate that polycrystalline AFMs can be
described using a real, symmetric, positive semi-definite, rank-two tensor,
which we term the Neel tensor. This tensor introduces a unique spin torque,
diverging from the conventional field-like and Slonczewski torques in
spintronics devices. Remarkably, Neel tensors can be trained to retain a
specific orientation, functioning as a form of working memory. This attribute
enables zero-field spin-orbit-torque switching in trilayer devices featuring a
heavy-metal/ferromagnet/AFM structure and is also consistent with the X-ray
magnetic linear dichroism measurements. Our findings uncover hidden statistical
patterns in polycrystalline AFMs and establishes the presence of Neel tensor
