Measurements of charmed particle cross sections at HERA in the photoproduction and deep inelastic regimes are reviewed. The status of the comparison with perturbative QCD calculations is discussed.Comment: Presented at the Ringberg Workshop on ``New Trends in HERA Physics 2001'' 17-22 June 2001. 12 pages, 11 figure

The proton structure function F_2(x,Q^2) for x < 0.01 and 0.045< Q^2 < 45 GeV^2, measured in the deep inelastic scattering at HERA, can be well described within the framework of the Color Glass Condensate.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure, incl. Jets in deep-inelastic scattering at HERA

    Get PDF
Jet cross sections in deep-inelastic scattering over a wide region of phase space have been measured at HERA. These cross section measurements provide a thorough test of the implementation of Quantum Chromodynamics in next-to-leading order (NLO) calculations. They also provide the opportunity to test the consistency of the gluon distribution in the proton as extracted from (mainly) inclusive DIS measurements. Comparison of the cross sections with NLO enables accurate extractions of the strong coupling constant, αs\alpha_s, to be made, several of which are reported here.Comment: Talk presented at "New Trends in HERA Physics", Ringberg Workshop, June 2001. 13pages, 12figure

Uncertainties on parton distribution functions from the ZEUS NLO QCD fit to data on deep inelastic scattering

An NLO QCD analysis of the ZEUS data on e+pe^+ p deep inelastic scattering together with fixed-target data has been performed from which the gluon and quark densities of the proton and the value of the strong coupling parameter, αs(MZ2)\alpha_s(M_Z^2), have been extracted. The study includes a full treatment of the experimental systematic uncertainties, including point-to-point correlations. Different ways of incorporating correlated systematic uncertainties into the fit are discussed and compared.Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure. What did HERA teach us about the structure of the proton?

Starting in 2008 the H1 and ZEUS experiments have been combining their data in order to provide the most complete and accurate set of deep-inelastic data as the legacy of HERA. The present review presents these combinations, both published and preliminary, and explores how they have been used to give information on the structure of the proton. The HERAPDF parton distribution functions (PDFs) are presented and compared with other current PDFs and with data from the Tevatron and LHC colliders.Comment: 49 pages, 49 figures, to be published in J.Phys.

Deep inelastic J/ψJ/\psi production at HERA in the kTk_T-factorization approach and its consequences for the nonrelativistic QCD

    Get PDF
In the framework of the kTk_T-factorization approach, we analyse the inclusive and inelastic production of J/ψJ/\psi particles in deep inelastic epep scattering. We take into account both colour-singlet and colour-octet production channels. We inspect the sensitivity of theoretical predictions to the choice of model parameters. Our theoretical results agree reasonably well with recent experimental data collected by the collaboration H1 at HERA.Comment: 14 pages, 6 figure

Prospects for Pentaquark Searches in e+ee^+e^- Annihilations and γγ\gamma\gamma Collisions

Recent strong experimental evidence of a narrow exotic S = +1 baryon resonance, Θ+\Theta^+, suggests the existence of other exotic baryons. We discuss the prospects of confirming earlier experimental evidence of Θ+\Theta^+ and the observation of additional hypothetical exotic baryons in e+ee^+e^- annihilations and γγ\gamma\gamma collisions at LEP and B Factories

Magnetic moment of the pentaquark Θ+(1540)\Theta^+(1540) with light-cone QCD sum rules

In this article, we study the magnetic moment of the pentaquark state Θ+(1540) \Theta^+(1540) as diquark-diquark-antiquark ([ud][ud]sˉ[ud][ud]\bar{s}) state in the framework of the light-cone QCD sum rules approach. The numerical results indicate the magnetic moment of the pentaquark state Θ+(1540) \Theta^+(1540) is about μΘ+=(0.49±0.06)μN\mu_{\Theta^+}=-(0.49\pm 0.06)\mu_N.Comment: 10 pages, 1 figure. The dependence of dijet production on photon virtuality in ep collisions at HERA

    Get PDF
The dependence of dijet production on the virtuality of the exchanged photon, Q^2, has been studied by measuring dijet cross sections in the range 0 < Q^2 < 2000 GeV^2 with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 38.6 pb^-1. Dijet cross sections were measured for jets with transverse energy E_T^jet > 7.5 and 6.5 GeV and pseudorapidities in the photon-proton centre-of-mass frame in the range -3 < eta^jet <0. The variable xg^obs, a measure of the photon momentum entering the hard process, was used to enhance the sensitivity of the measurement to the photon structure. The Q^2 dependence of the ratio of low- to high-xg^obs events was measured. Next-to-leading-order QCD predictions were found to generally underestimate the low-xg^obs contribution relative to that at high xg^obs. Monte Carlo models based on leading-logarithmic parton-showers, using a partonic structure for the photon which falls smoothly with increasing Q^2, provide a qualitative description of the data.Comment: 35 pages, 6 eps figures, submitted to Eur.Phys.J.

Search for a narrow charmed baryonic state decaying to D^*+/- p^-/+ in ep collisions at HERA

    Get PDF
A resonance search has been made in the D^*+/- p^-/+ invariant-mass spectrum with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 126 pb^-1. The decay channels D^*+ -> D^0 pi^+_s -> (K^- pi^+) pi^+_s and D^*+ -> D^0 pi^+_s -> (K^- pi^+ pi^+ pi^-) pi^+_s (and the corresponding antiparticle decays) were used to identify D^*+/- mesons. No resonance structure was observed in the D^*+/- p^-/+ mass spectrum from more than 60000 reconstructed D^*+/- mesons. The results are not compatible with a report of the H1 Collaboration of a charmed pentaquark, Theta^0_c.Comment: 22 pages, 7 figures, 1 table; minor text revisions; 2 references adde
