Teacher Perspectives on Co-teaching in a Content Classroom with English Language Support

This study explores co-teachers’ valuations on four aspects of best-practice, which were administrative support, planning time and preparation, training for co-teachers, and the co-teacher relationship. It uses correlative analysis to compare these valuations and coteachers’ perceived feelings of effectiveness as individuals and as partnerships. Data was gathered through a survey of both ESL and mainstream teachers via a university listserv. The results showed administrative support was perceived as the least important of four aspects of co-teaching best-practice, but correlative analysis showed a strong link between perceived effectiveness of administrator support for co-teaching and teachers’ feelings of effectiveness as both individual co-teachers and in co-teaching partnerships

Re-Aerosolization of Dense Metal Oxide Simulating Radiological Contamination from Military Clothing

Radiological contamination from nuclear accidents or the terrorist use of a Radiological Dispersal Device (RDD) are events that first responders must be prepared for. It is currently assumed that removal of the victims clothing will remove 80-90 of contamination. Many RDD radioisotopes produce dense aerosols that would then contaminate victim clothing and re-aerosolize during clothing removal. A series of experiments were conducted during which clothing was contaminated with a dense aerosol simulating the radioisotope of Strontium 90. Compared to background, there was statistically significant re-aerosolization from the clothing. This demonstrates inhalation hazards from re-aerosolization of RDD contamination

The coastal bottom boundary layer : a note on the model of Chapman and Lentz

The flow is driven by a surface stress, uniform in the alongshore coordinate, in a downwelling-favorable direction. The stress diminishes in the offshore direction and produces an Ekman pumping, as well as an onshore Ekman flux. The model yields an interior flow, sandwiched between an upper Ekman layer and a bottom boundary layer. The interior has a horizontal density gradient produced by a balance between horizontal diffusion of density and vertical advection of a background vertical density gradient. The interior flow is vertically sheared and in thermal wind balance. Whereas the original model of Chapman and Lentz considered an alongshore flow that is freely evolving, the present note focuses on the equilibrium structure of a flow driven by stress and discusses the vertical and lateral structure of the flow and, in particular, the boundary layer thickness. The vertical diffusivity of density in the bottom boundary layer is considered so strong, locally, as to render the bottom boundary layer’s density a function of only offshore position. Boundary layer budgets of mass, momentum, and buoyancy determine the barotropic component of the interior flow as well as the boundary layer thickness, which is a function of the offshore coordinate. The alongshore flow has enhanced vertical shear in the boundary layer that reduces the alongshore flow in the boundary layer; however, the velocity at the bottom is generally not zero but produces a stress that locally balances the applied surface stress. The offshore transport in the bottom boundary layer therefore balances the onshore surface Ekman flux. The model predicts the thickness of the bottom boundary layer, which is a complicated function of several parameters, including the strength of the forcing stress, the vertical and horizontal diffusion coefficients in the interior, and the horizontal diffusion in the boundary layer. The model yields a boundary layer over only a finite portion of the bottom slope if the interior diffusion coefficients are too large; otherwise, the layer extends over the full lateral extent of the domain.This research was supported in part by NSF Grant OCE-851086.00

The MARS Sales Management Simulation: 10+ Years Later

The authors discuss the MARS Sales Management Simulation (MARS) based on over 10 years of experience using the simulation in a sales management course. Over the years, the authors have tried a variety of ways of incorporating the MARS game into the sales management course and have written this paper to share their insights. This paper presents an overview of the MARS Sales Management Simulation, how to incorporate MARS into a sales management course, additional sales management assignments that relate to information from the MARS Simulation, advantages of using the simulation, disadvantages of using the simulation, some possible guidelines for running the simulation, and suggested guidelines for the additional assignments

Business-to-Business Buying Behavior and the Price-Perceived Quality Paradigm

This article gives an overview of the development of the price-perceived quality paradigm. The original price-perceived quality model is presented to show the impact of price on consumer behavior. An extended model is discussed which shows the impact of presenting two prices to consumers in a purchase situation as well as showing the impact of various promotions such as coupons and rebates on consumer behavior. Based on two tests of the extended model, a revised model was developed to address the shortcomings of the extended model. All the previous research on the price-perceived quality model has been based on consumer buying situations. There have not been any tests of the model for business to business buying situations. This research presents a test of the revised model for a business to business buying situation
