The 14th Five-Year Plan stated that China should accelerate green development and promote a comprehensive green transition in economic and social development. As China’s economic growth slows, green development becomes greatly significant for the high-quality development of the economy. Based on China’s provincial panel data from 2005 to 2021, this study applies fixed effects model and mediating effect model to explore the influence of the government environmental investment on green development. The results indicate that (1) the government environmental investment was conducive to green development, but such effect weakened with time. (2) The government environmental investment indirectly promoted green development through the application of green patents and economic agglomeration. (3) The promotional effect of the government environmental investment varied according to region and time. Specifically, investment exerted the most significant effect on the green development of eastern China, which became more evident after 2015. The government should promote green development by implementing long-term assessment and accountability mechanisms, expanding the scale of economic agglomeration, improving the efficiency of the application of green patents, and improving the accuracy of environmental investment.</div

Reversible Regulation of Protein Binding Affinity by a DNA Machine

    No full text
We report a DNA machine that can reversibly regulate target binding affinity on the basis of distance-dependent bivalent binding. It is a tweezer-like DNA machine that can tune the spatial distance between two ligands to construct or destroy the bivalent binding. The DNA machine can strongly bind to the target protein when the ligands are placed at an appropriate distance but releases the target when the bivalent binding is disrupted by enlargement of the distance between the ligands. This “capture–release” cycle could be repeatedly driven by single-stranded DNA without changing the ligands and target protein

Twists and Turns of Orbiting and Spinning Metallic Microparticles Powered by Megahertz Ultrasound

Micromotors powered by megahertz ultrasound, first reported about 5 years ago, have lately been considered a promising platform for a wide range of microscale applications, yet we are only at the early stage of understanding their operating mechanisms. Through carefully designed experiments, and by comparing the results to acoustic theories, we present here an in-depth study of the behaviors of particles activated by ultrasound, especially their in-plane orbiting and spinning dynamics. Experiments suggest that metallic microrods orbit in tight circles near the resonance ultrasound frequency, likely driven by localized acoustic streaming due to slightly bent particle shapes. On the other hand, particle spins around their long axes on nodal lines, where phase-mismatched orthogonal sound waves possibly produce a viscous torque. Intriguingly, such a torque spins metal-dielectric Janus microspheres back and forth in an unusual “rocking chair” fashion. Overall, our observations and analysis provide fresh and much needed insights on the interesting particle dynamics in resonating ultrasound and could help with developing more powerful and controllable micromachines with biocompatible energy sources

Optically Resolving the Dynamic Walking of a Plasmonic Walker Couple

Deterministic placement and dynamic manipulation of individual plasmonic nanoparticles with nanoscale precision feature an important step toward active nanoplasmonic devices with prescribed levels of performance and functionalities at optical frequencies. In this Letter, we demonstrate a plasmonic walker couple system, in which two gold nanorod walkers can independently or simultaneously perform stepwise walking powered by DNA hybridization along the same DNA origami track. We utilize optical spectroscopy to resolve such dynamic walking with nanoscale steps well below the optical diffraction limit. We also show that the number of walkers and the optical response of the system can be correlated. Our studies exemplify the power of plasmonics, when integrated with DNA nanotechnology for realization of advanced artificial nanomachinery with tailored optical functionalities
