This paper addresses modeling strategies in logistic regression within the context of a real-world data set. Six commercially available statistical packages were evaluated in how they addressed modeling issues and in the accuracy of their regression results. Recommendations are offered for data analysts in terms of each package\u27s strengths and weaknesses
Threshold Effects in the Decay of Heavy b' and t' Quarks
A sequential fourth generation is still viable, but the t' and b' quarks are
constrained to be not too far apart in mass. The t'{\to}bW and b'{\to}tW decay
channels are still being pursued at the Tevatron, which would soon be surpassed
by the LHC. We use a convolution method with up to five-body final state to
study t' and b' decays. We show how the two decay branches for m_{b'} below the
tW threshold, b'{\to}tW^* and t^*W, merge with b'{\to}tW above the threshold.
We then consider the heavy-to-heavy transitions b'{\to}t^{\prime(*)}W^{(*)} (or
t'{\to}b^{\prime(*)}W^{(*)}), as they are not suppressed by quark mixing. We
find that, because of the threshold sensitivity of the branching fraction of
t'{\to}b'W^* (or b'{\to}t'W^*), it is possible to measure the strength of the
CKM mixing element V_{t'b} (or V_{tb'}), especially when it is rather small. We
urge the experiments to pursue and separate the t'{\to}b'W^* (or b'{\to}t'W^*)
decay in their search program

Joint singing voice separation and F0 estimation with deep U-net architectures
Vocal source separation and fundamental frequency estimation in music are tightly related tasks. The outputs of vocal source separation systems have previously been used as inputs to vocal fundamental frequency estimation systems; conversely, vocal fundamental frequency has been used as side information to improve vocal source separation. In this paper, we propose several different approaches for jointly separating vocals and estimating fundamental frequency. We show that joint learning is advantageous for these tasks, and that a stacked architecture which first performs vocal separation outperforms the other configurations considered. Furthermore, the best joint model achieves state-of-the-art results for vocal-f0 estimation on the iKala dataset. Finally, we highlight the importance of performing polyphonic, rather than monophonic vocal-f0 estimation for many real-world cases
ALK-Positive Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma Associated With Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis
Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) has been rarely reported as a complication of anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL), especially in the adult population. We herein present a case of a young woman who presented with multiorgan failure and disseminated intravascular hemolysis and was later found to have ALCL-associated HLH. We also review the current literature on ALCL-associated HLH in adult patients, with their respective treatments and outcomes. We discuss the challenges associated with the diagnosis of lymphoma in the setting of HLH and multiorgan failure. Further, given its high mortality rates, we highlight the importance of promptly identifying and treating the underlying etiology of HLH
Flow reversals in thermally driven turbulence
We analyze the reversals of the large scale flow in Rayleigh-B\'enard
convection both through particle image velocimetry flow visualization and
direct numerical simulations (DNS) of the underlying Boussinesq equations in a
(quasi) two-dimensional, rectangular geometry of aspect ratio 1. For medium
Prandtl number there is a diagonal large scale convection roll and two smaller
secondary rolls in the two remaining corners diagonally opposing each other.
These corner flow rolls play a crucial role for the large scale wind reversal:
They grow in kinetic energy and thus also in size thanks to plume detachments
from the boundary layers up to the time that they take over the main, large
scale diagonal flow, thus leading to reversal. Based on this mechanism we
identify a typical time scale for the reversals. We map out the Rayleigh number
vs Prandtl number phase space and find that the occurrence of reversals very
sensitively depends on these parameters.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
How to Construct Mutually Orthogonal Complementary Sets With Non-Power-of-Two Lengths?
Mutually orthogonal complementary sets (MOCSs) have received significant research attention in recent years due to their wide applications in communications and radar. Existing MOCSs which are constructed based on generalized Boolean functions (GBFs) mostly have lengths of power-of-two. How to construct MOCSs with non-power-of-two lengths whilst having large set sizes is a largely open problem. With the aid of GBFs, in this paper, we present new constructions of such MOCSs and show that the maximal achievable set size is 1/2 of the flock size of an MOCS
Emergency Open Cardiac Massage via Subxyphoid Approach in Ruptured Type A Aortic Dissection
Patient sustained cardiac tamponade caused by rupture of type A aortic dissection may result in sudden death. Pericardiocentesis is a lifesaving procedure; nevertheless, blood may occlude the catheter and fail to relieve the pressure. However, open-chest cardiac massage in resuscitation has been studied in animal models by some medical centers and laboratories with inspiring results. We report a 58-year-old woman who was transferred from a local hospital with the diagnosis of cardiac tamponade caused by ruptured type A aortic dissection. Pulseless electrical activity followed by cardiac arrest occurred thereafter. Successful resuscitation in the emergency department was achieved using open cardiac massage through the sub-xyphoid region by opening a pericardial window. Therefore, in unstable patients with cardiac tamponade due to aortic dissection, this resuscitative procedure is feasible, safe and efficient
