Optimal QoE Scheduling in MPEG-DASH Video Streaming
DASH is a popular technology for video streaming over the Internet. However, the quality of experience (QoE), a measure of humans’ perceived satisfaction of the quality of these streamed videos, is their subjective opinion, which is difficult to evaluate. Previous studies only considered network-based indices and focused on them to provide smooth video playback instead of improving the true QoE experienced by humans. In this study, we designed a series of click density experiments to verify whether different resolutions could affect the QoE for different video scenes. We observed that, in a single video segment, different scenes with the same resolution could affect the viewer’s QoE differently. It is true that the user’s satisfaction as a result of watching high-resolution video segments is always greater than that when watching low-resolution video segments of the same scenes. However, the most important observation is that low-resolution video segments yield higher viewing QoE gain in slow motion scenes than in fast motion scenes. Thus, the inclusion of more high-resolution segments in the fast motion scenes and more low-resolution segments in the slow motion scenes would be expected to maximize the user’s viewing QoE. In this study, to evaluate the user’s true experience, we convert the viewing QoE into a satisfaction quality score, termed the Q-score, for scenes with different resolutions in each video segment. Additionally, we developed an optimal segment assignment (OSA) algorithm for Q-score optimization in environments characterized by a constrained network bandwidth. Our experimental results show that application of the OSA algorithm to the playback schedule significantly improved users’ viewing satisfaction

Effects of Magnetic Field and Temperature on the Critical Current Hysteresis in Tl-Ca-Ba-Cu-O Thin Films
The behavior of the critical current density of Tl-Ca-Ba-Cu-O superconducting thin films in a cycling magnetic field was investigated. The hysteresis of the transport Jc manifested similar features to those found in polycrystalline Y-Ba-Cu-O and granular Nb, Al thin films in zero-field cooling. However, a novel result of the transport Jc in field-cooled samples has been observed. The results were attributed to the presence of a saturated trapped magnetic flux in the weaklink network. The effects of temperature on both the trapped flux and the transport Jc suggest the existence of various states of the trapped flux in the Tl-based superconducting thin films
Existence theorems for a crystal surface model involving the p-Laplace operator
The manufacturing of crystal films lies at the heart of modern
nanotechnology. How to accurately predict the motion of a crystal surface is of
fundamental importance. Many continuum models have been developed for this
purpose, including a number of PDE models, which are often obtained as the
continuum limit of a family of kinetic Monte Carlo models of crystal surface
relaxation that includes both the solid-on-solid and discrete Gaussian models.
In this paper we offer an analytical perspective into some of these models. To
be specific, we study the existence of a weak solution to the boundary value
problem for the equation - \Delta e^{-\mbox{div}\left(|\nabla u|^{p-2}\nabla
u\right)}+au=f, where are given numbers and is a given
function. This problem is derived from a crystal surface model proposed by
J.L.~Marzuola and J.~Weare (2013 Physical Review, E 88, 032403). The
mathematical challenge is due to the fact that the principal term in our
equation is an exponential function of a p-Laplacian. Existence of a
suitably-defined weak solution is established under the assumptions that

key to our existence assertion is how to control the set where
