Study of Strangeness Condensation by Expanding About the Fixed Point of the Harada-Yamawaki Vector Manifestation
Building on, and extending, the result of a higher-order in-medium chiral
perturbation theory combined with renormalization group arguments and a variety
of observations of the vector manifestation of Harada-Yamawaki hidden local
symmetry theory, we obtain a surprisingly simple description of kaon
condensation by fluctuating around the "vector manifestation (VM)" fixed point
identified to be the chiral restoration point. Our development establishes that
strangeness condensation takes place at about 3 n_0 where n_0 is nuclear matter
density. This result depends only on the renoramlization-group (RG) behavior of
the vector interactions, other effects involved in fluctuating about the bare
vacuum in so many previous calculations being "irrelevant" in the RG about the
fixed point. Our results have major effects on the collapse of neutron stars
into black holes.Comment: 4 page
Fitting Precision Electroweak Data with Exotic Heavy Quarks
The 1999 precision electroweak data from LEP and SLC persist in showing some
slight discrepancies from the assumed standard model, mostly regarding and
quarks. We show how their mixing with exotic heavy quarks could result in a
more consistent fit of all the data, including two unconventional
interpretations of the top quark.Comment: 7 pages, no figure, 2 typos corrected, 1 reference update
Shifting with
Precision measurements at the resonance agree well with the standard
model. However, there is still a hint of a discrepancy, not so much in by
itself (which has received a great deal of attention in the past several years)
but in the forward-backward asymmetry together with . The two
are of course correlated. We explore the possibilty that these and other
effects are due to the mixing of and with one or more heavy quarks.Comment: 11 pages, 1 Figure, LaTex fil
Rank-ordered Multifractal Spectrum for Intermittent Fluctuations
We describe a new method that is both physically explicable and
quantitatively accurate in describing the multifractal characteristics of
intermittent events based on groupings of rank-ordered fluctuations. The
generic nature of such rank-ordered spectrum leads it to a natural connection
with the concept of one-parameter scaling for monofractals. We demonstrate this
technique using results obtained from a 2D MHD simulation. The calculated
spectrum suggests a crossover from the near Gaussian characteristics of small
amplitude fluctuations to the extreme intermittent state of large rare events.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
Improved high temperature resistant matrix resins
The objective was to develop organic matrix resins suitable for service at temperatures up to 644 K (700 F) and at air pressures up to 0.4 MPa (60 psia) for time durations of a minimum of 100 hours. Matrix resins capable of withstanding these extreme oxidative environmental conditions would lead to increased use of polymer matrix composites in aircraft engines and provide significant weight and cost savings. Six linear condensation, aromatic/heterocyclic polymers containing fluorinated and/or diphenyl linkages were synthesized. The thermo-oxidative stability of the resins was determined at 644 K and compressed air pressures up to 0.4 MPa. Two formulations, both containing perfluoroisopropylidene linkages in the polymer backbone structure, exhibited potential for 644 K service to meet the program objectives. Two other formulations could not be fabricated into compression molded zero defect specimens
Study of providing omnidirectional vibration isolation to entire space shuttle payload packages
Techniques to provide omnidirectional vibration isolation for a space shuttle payload package were investigated via a reduced-scale model. Development, design, fabrication, assembly and test evaluation of a 0.125-scale isolation model are described. Final drawings for fabricated mechanical components are identified, and prints of all drawings are included
The Decays to -wave Charmonium by Improved Bethe-Salpeter Approach
We re-calculate the exclusive semileptonic and nonleptonic decays of
meson to a -wave charmonium in terms of the improved Bethe-Salpeter (B-S)
approach, which is developed recently. Here the widths for the exclusive
semileptonic and nonleptonic decays, the form factors, and the charged lepton
spectrums for the semileptonic decays are precisely calculated. To test the
concerned approach by comparing with experimental measurements when the
experimental data are available, and to have comparisons with the other
approaches the results obtained by the approach and those by some approaches
else as well as the original B-S approach, which appeared in literature, are
comparatively presented and discussed.Comment: 33 pages, 5 figures, 3 table
Spectrum for Heavy Quankonia and Mixture of the Relevant Wave Functions within the Framework of Bethe-Salpeter Equation
Considering the fact that some excited states of the heavy quarkonia
(charmonium and bottomonium) still missing in experimental observations and
potential applications of the relevant wave functions of the bound states, we
re-analyze the spectrum and the relevant wave functions of the heavy quarkonia
within the framework of Bethe-Salpeter (B.S.) equation with a proper
QCD-inspired kernel. Such a kernel for the heavy quarkonia, relating to
potential of non-relativistic quark model, is instantaneous, so we call the
corresponding B.S. equation as BS-In equation throughout the paper.
Particularly, a new way to solve the B.S. equation, which is different from the
traditional ones, is proposed here, and with it not only the known spectrum for
the heavy quarkonia is re-generated, but also an important issue is brought in,
i.e., the obtained solutions of the equation `automatically' include the
'fine', 'hyperfine' splittings and the wave function mixture, such as
wave mixing in states, wave mixing in
states for charmonium and bottomonium etc. It is pointed out that the best
place to test the wave mixture probably is at -factory ( collider
running at -boson pole with extremely high luminosity).Comment: 26 pages, 8 figure
The Neutron Electric Dipole Moment and CP-violating Couplings in the Supersymmetric Standard Model without R-parity
We analyze the neutron electric dipole moment (EDM) in the Minimal
Supersymmetric Model with explicit R-parity violating terms. The leading
contribution to the EDM occurs at the 2-loop level and is dominated by the
chromoelectric dipole moments of quarks, assuming there is no tree-level
mixings between sleptons and Higgs bosons or between leptons and gauginos.
Based on the experimental constraint on the neutron EDM, we set limits on the
imaginary parts of complex couplings and
due to the virtual b-loop or tau-loop.Comment: final manuscript to appear in Phys. Rev. D, 15 pages, latex, 4
