A Treatment of Signalized Intersections with High V/c Ratio Under Advanced Traffic Control Systems

Advanced Traffic Control Systems (ATCS) have been recognized as one of the most direct methods for relieving urban traffic congestion. However, the application of the systems in developing countries is unique because road intersections in their cities are usually very congested with high v/c ratio. The aim of this study is to evaluate the treatments of signalized in-tersections with high v/c ratio under ATCS. Moreover, is to recommend how to improve traffic performance in an existing severe transportation problem. Road network in Bandung-Indonesia was used as a case study. AIMSUN (Advanced Interactive Microscopic Simulation for Urban and Un-urban Network) micro-simulator was conducted to evaluate the treat-ment during peak and off peak periods. The results indicate that by chang-ing two-way into one-way road will cause an increase in traffic flows by 7%-58%, and a decrease in queue length by 87%-100%. In general, all performance measures in related streams were bette

A note on the phonetic evolution of yod-pa-red in Central Tibet.

Despite the current inconsistent spellings such as yod-red (Tournadre 1996: 229-231 et passim, 2003), yog-red (Denwood 1999: 158 et passim), and yoáž„o-red (Hu et al. 1989: 64 et passim) of the existential copula and auxiliary verb which is pronounced as yɔɔ ̀ ree ̀ (Chang and Shefts 1964: 15) or yo:re ' (Tournadre 1996: 229-231) there is widespread agreement that yod-pa-red is the etymological origin of this morpheme (Chang and Chang 1968: 106ff, Tournadre 1996: 229). It is regularly spelled yod-pa-red in the newspaper articles collected from the Mi dmaáč…s brñan par (äșș民畫 ć ± Peoples Pictorial) by Kamil Sedláček (1972, e.g. p. 27, bsam-gyi yod-pa-red ‘he was thinking’). The pronunciation of this auxiliary is not what one would predict from the spelling. In all likelihood it is the frequency and unstressed syntactic position of the word which led to this deviant phonetic development. The existence of studies and handbooks for the language of Lhasa over more than a century permits us to trance the phonetic development of yod-pa-red with surprising precision

Determinations of |V_ub| and |V_cb| from measurements of B -> X_u,c\ell\nu differential decay rates

Methods are described in the framework of light-cone expansion which allow one to determine the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements |V_ub| and |V_cb| from measurements of the differential decay rates as a function of the scaling variables in the inclusive semileptonic decays of B mesons. By these model-independent methods the dominant hadronic uncertainties can be avoided and the B -> X_u\ell\nu decay can be very efficiently differentiated from the B -> X_c\ell\nu decay, which may lead to precise determinations of |V_ub| and |V_cb|.Comment: 11 pages, 2 figures, version as published in Mod.
