Buclizine- old wine in new bottle?

    Get PDF
Buclizine is a first generation antihistaminic with some anticholinergic potential. This drug has specific pharmacological indications in allergy, morning sickness, migraine, motion sickness and insomnia with some or doubtful success. It is an obsolete drug of decline use due to better availability of second and third generation antihistamines.Buclizine, a forgotten drug used in past is now re-introduced as an appetite stimulant. Previously one of the counterpart “cyproheptadine” was used but currently banned from most part of the world due to untoward effects. The standard textbook of pediatrics has not mentioned buclizine as an appetizer. On the other side, no article published (Pub med search) in last few decades to favors this claim. This drug has no space in WHO essential medicine list probably due to doubtful safety.A scientific issue arises- Does children require appetite stimulant? Appetizers are never be a rational solution. They can be used as adjunct because of their placebo effect. Meanwhile placebo has limited role in children on behalf of other party (parents) involvement. Misperception about diet, feeding practice, dysfunctional ‘parent child interaction’ etc. needed proper counselling rather than prescribing an appetite stimulant. There may be risk, that buclizine to become “OTC” appetizer in future due to current promotional spurt by pharmaceutical. However, large scale multicentric clinical trials are needed before promotion of buclizine as pediatric appetite stimulant, with careful watch of pharmacovigilance perspective

Strategies Used by Academic Libraries to Manage Information Crisis in the Pandemic: The Study of the Fiji National University Library

    Get PDF
The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the entire world, affecting the economy, businesses, jobs, education, health, and many other things among it. Many businesses and organizations went virtual to survive the disease and reduce the losses. The crisis encountered during the pandemic enabled people to reinvent plans and convert threats into opportunity to overcome the challenges. The study aims to analyze Fiji National University Library’s response during the COVID-19 pandemic and measures enforced to tackle the pandemic and lockdown situation for smooth operation of the online services provided to the undergraduate and postgraduate students, teaching-learning faculties, higher degree researcher’s (HDRs) and how active online workshops and programs support the dissemination of information to the users

Analysis of Hysteresis Loops of 316L(N) Stainless Steel under Low Cycle Fatigue Loading Conditions

    Get PDF
AbstractLow cycle fatigue tests were carried out on 316 L(N) stainless steel at room temperature employing strain amplitudes ranging from ± 0.3 to ±1.0% and a strain rate of 3×10−3s−1. The material showed initial hardening for a few cycles followed by prolonged softening, saturation and final failure. The fatigue life was found to decrease with increase in strain amplitude. The analysis of stable hysteresis loops showed non-Masing behaviour for this material. The elasto-plastic response of the material under cyclic loading was characterized taking into account isotropic and kinematic hardening occurring during cycling. The material parameters were obtained from the experimental hysteresis loops and cyclic stress response of the material. Finite element analysis of elasto-plastic deformation was carried out to obtain the stabilized hysteresis loop and cyclic stress response of the material. The predicted hysteresis loops showed good agreement with experimental results. The low cycle fatigue life prediction was carried out based on plastic strain energy dissipation with cycling

Melamine Polyimide Composite Fire Resistant Intumescent Coatings

Components of intumescent coatings acid source, carbon source and blowing agent like melamine linked together by a binder provide cumulative fire retardant properties. When temperature of the coating surface reaches a critical temperature under the heat of flame, the surface begins to melt and is converted into highly viscous liquid. Simultaneously, reactions are initiated that result in the release of inert gases with low thermal conductivity. These gases are trapped inside the viscous fluid forming insulating char. The special composite of melamine polyimide, a C source and melamine a blowing agent showed high performance heat resistance in the present study. Polyimides have excellent heat and chemical resistance, excellent adhesion to a number of substrates and superior mechanical properties, such as high flexural modulus and compressive strength. Polyimides are also known to possess outstanding dimensional stability under loads, which allows their use in high temperature environments. Effect of the monomer on chemical reactivity between the binder and the intumescent additives has been studied by thermo-gravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimeter and FTIR analysis. Thermal insulation studies by various intumescent composite coatings, applied on aluminium plates provided useful time temperature profiles.Defence Science Journal, 2013, 63(4), pp.442-446, DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.14429/dsj.63.487

TO WIDEN THE NOVEL CLOUD CARGO SPACE EXAMINE FOR LOCATION

Watching that during hundreds of sensing situations, the location statistics is probably positioned up-processed as quickly because the facts are submitted to a few server, we format Cloud-Offloaded Gps navigation (CO-Gps navigation) solution that permits a sensing tool to strongly obligation-cycle its Gps navigation receiver and log sufficient uncooked Gps navigation signal for publish-processing. Location is, in reality, essential provider for traveling with a computer. Typical Gps navigation receivers, despite the fact that substantially without a hassle to be had for navigation reasons may additionally eat too much electricity to end up using for lots of programs. Localization is simply an essential carrier of mobility. In outside packages as an instance natural international tracking, participatory ecological sensing, and private standard fitness applications, Gps navigation is affects the maximum common region sensor. Leveraging overtly to be had records, for example, GNSS satellite TV for pc television for computer ephemeris further to an Earth elevation database, a cloud issuer can derive pinnacle splendid Gps navigation locations from a couple of milliseconds of uncooked information. Using our fashion of a portable sensing device platform known as CLEON, we decide the precision and efficiency of the solution. In comparison to extra than thirty seconds of heavy sign processing on standalone Gps navigation receivers, we're capable of achieving three orders of significance decrease electricity intake consistent with vicinity marking

A RAPID RP-HPLC METHOD DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION FOR THE QUANTITATIVE ESTIMATION OF SOLIFENACIN SUCCINATE IN TABLETS

    Get PDF
Objective: To develop an accurate, precise and linear Reverse Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatographic (RP-HPLC) method and validate as per ICH guidelines for the quantitative estimation of Solifenacin succinate (5mg) in tablets. Methods: The optimized method uses a reverse phase column, Enable Make C18G (250 X 4.6 mm; 5μ), a mobile phase of triethylammonium phosphate buffer (pH 3.5): acetonitrile in the proportion of 30:70 v/v, flow rate of 1.0 ml/min and a detection wavelength of 210 nm using a UV detector. Results: The developed method resulted in Solifenacin succinate eluting at 3.5 min. Solifenacin succinate exhibited linearity in the range 10-30μg/ml. The precision is exemplified by relative standard deviation of 0.76%. Percentage Mean recovery was found to be in the range of 98â€102, during accuracy studies. The limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantitiation (LOQ) was found to be 7.65μg/ml and 23.19μg/ml respectively. Conclusion: A rapid, accurate, precise and linear RP-HPLC method was developed and validated for the quantitative estimation of solifenacin succinate in SOLITEN (5mg) tablets as per ICH guidelines and hence it can be used for routine analysis in various pharmaceutical industries

An encephalitis outbreak in 2003 in children from India was attributed to Chandipura virus. Sequence analyses of G, N, and P genes showed 95.6%–97.6% nucleotide identity with the 1965 isolate (G gene, 7–11 amino acid changes); N and P genes were highly conserved
