An analysis of the Leisure-Time Interest of the Children, Teen-Agers, and Adults is a problem of current value due to the changing patterns in the use of leisure time since World War II. The use of leisure time is important, since clean, wholesome fun and pleasure act as a physical, mental and spiritual stimulus driving one forward to greater and more worth-while accomplishments. Before we can know whether the leisure-time interests of a community are conducive to good citizenship, and whether the recreational organizations, if any exist, can make imporvements, we must ask and find the answer to the question What do they do during their leisure time? Before we can determine the leisure-time interest of the children, teen-agers and adults, we need to ask and find the answers to the questions: How and to what extent do their leisure-time interests differ? Are the differences properly attributable to their varying ages? Another item would be the influence of the economic and cultural background to be considered in the people\u27s choice of leisure-time activities. The interest of the people determine the pattern their leisure-time activities will follow. The authorities must know what the people do with their leisure time and some of the factors which influence their choice of leisure-time activities before they can attempt to provide a recreational program

Whose voices? Patient and public involvement in clinical commissioning

AIM: This paper aims to explore patient and public representation in a NHS clinical commissioning group and how this is experienced by staff and lay members involved. BACKGROUND: Patient and public involvement is believed to foster greater public representativeness in the development and delivery of health care services. However, there is widespread debate about what representation is or what it should be. Questions arise about the different constructions of representation and the representativeness of patients and the public in decision-making structures and processes. DESIGN: Ethnographic, two-phase study involving twenty-four observations across two types of clinical commissioning group meetings with patient and public involvement, fourteen follow-up interviews with NHS staff and lay members, and a focus group with five lay members. RESULTS: Perceptions of what constitutes legitimate representativeness varied between respondents, ranging from representing an individual patient experience to reaching large numbers of people. Consistent with previous studies, there was a lack of clarity about the role of lay members in the work of the clinical commissioning group. CONCLUSIONS: Unlike previous studies, it was lay members, not staff, who raised concerns about their representativeness and legitimacy. Although the clinical commissioning group provides resources to support patient and public involvement, there continues to be a lack of clarity about roles and scope for impact. Lay members are still some way from constituting a powerful voice at the table

Despite the growing interest in child abuse and its prevention, to date no systematic research has been conducted to determine the usefulness of instruments used to identify and predict abuse or neglect. The present study is a review and analysis of predictive instruments of abuse or neglect with the goal of identifying the predictive efficiency of the instruments. Analysis reveals a variety of problems with predictive efficiency, particularly as predicting individual risk of abuse or neglect relates to primary prevention. Implications of the findings and suggestions for practice are discussed
