The preferred area for development is the Old Stabilised Dune System. The Hind Dune Flat is a stable area but is limited in size. Other environmental and town planning considerations may militate against development of this area for Chalet Development
Cubic Twistorial String Field Theory
Witten has recently proposed a string theory in twistor space whose
D-instanton contributions are conjectured to compute N=4 super-Yang-Mills
scattering amplitudes. An alternative string theory in twistor space was then
proposed whose open string tree amplitudes reproduce the D-instanton
computations of maximal degree in Witten's model.
In this paper, a cubic open string field theory action is constructed for
this alternative string in twistor space, and is shown to be invariant under
parity transformations which exchange MHV and googly amplitudes. Since the
string field theory action is gauge-invariant and reproduces the correct cubic
super-Yang-Mills interactions, it provides strong support for the conjecture
that the string theory correctly computes N-point super-Yang-Mills tree

Regional and monthly and clear-sky aerosol direct radiative effect (and forcing) derived from the GlobAEROSOL-AATSR satellite aerosol product
Using the GlobAEROSOL-AATSR dataset, estimates
of the instantaneous, clear-sky, direct aerosol radiative
effect and radiative forcing have been produced for the year
2006. Aerosol Robotic Network sun-photometer measurements
have been used to characterise the random and systematic
error in the GlobAEROSOL product for 22 regions covering
the globe. Representative aerosol properties for each
region were derived from the results of a wide range of literature sources and, along with the de-biased GlobAEROSOL
AODs, were used to drive an offline version of the Met Office unified model radiation scheme. In addition to the mean AOD, best-estimate run of the radiation scheme, a range of additional calculations were done to propagate uncertainty estimates in the AOD, optical properties, surface albedo and errors due to the temporal and spatial averaging of the AOD fields. This analysis produced monthly, regional estimates of the clear-sky aerosol radiative effect and its uncertainty, which were combined to produce annual, global mean values of (â6.7±3.9)Wmâ2 at the top of atmosphere (TOA) and (â12±6)Wmâ2 at the surface. These results were then used to give estimates of regional, clear-sky aerosol direct radiative forcing, using modelled pre-industrial AOD fields for the year 1750 calculated for the AEROCOM PRE experiment. However, as it was not possible to quantify the uncertainty in the pre-industrial aerosol loading, these figures can only be taken as indicative and their uncertainties as lower bounds on the likely errors. Although the uncertainty on aerosol radiative effect presented here is considerably larger than most previous estimates, the explicit inclusion of the major sources of error in the calculations suggest that they are closer to the true constraint on this figure from similar methodologies, and point to the need for more, improved estimates of both global aerosol loading and aerosol optical properties

Indeed, a growing number of scientists, philosophers and forecasters insist that the accelerating progress in disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, genetic engineering, and nanotechnology may lead to what they refer to as the technological singularity: an event or phase that will radically change human civilization, and perhaps even human nature itself, before the middle of the 21st century
Smoking in asthma is associated with elevated levels of corticosteroid resistant sputum cytokinesâan exploratory study
<p>Background: Current cigarette smoking is associated with reduced acute responses to corticosteroids and worse clinical outcomes in stable chronic asthma. The mechanism by which current smoking promotes this altered behavior is currently unclear. Whilst cytokines can induce corticosteroid insensitivity in-vitro, how current and former smoking affects airway cytokine concentrations and their responses to oral corticosteroids in stable chronic asthma is unclear.</p>
<p>Objectives: To examine blood and sputum cytokine concentrations in never, ex and current smokers with asthma before and after oral corticosteroids.</p>
<p>Methods: Exploratory study utilizing two weeks of oral dexamethasone (equivalent to 40 mg/day prednisolone) in 22 current, 21 never and 10 ex-smokers with asthma. Induced sputum supernatant and plasma was obtained before and after oral dexamethasone. 25 cytokines were measured by multiplex microbead system (Invitrogen, UK) on a Luminex platform.</p>
<p>Results: Smokers with asthma had elevated sputum cytokine interleukin (IL) -6, -7, and -12 concentrations compared to never smokers with asthma. Few sputum cytokine concentrations changed in response to dexamethasone IL-17 and IFNα increased in smokers, CCL4 increased in never smokers and CCL5 and CXCL10 reduced in ex-smokers with asthma. Ex-smokers with asthma appeared to have evidence of an ongoing corticosteroid resistant elevation of cytokines despite smoking cessation. Several plasma cytokines were lower in smokers wi</p>
<p>Conclusion: Cigarette smoking in asthma is associated with a corticosteroid insensitive increase in multiple airway cytokines. Distinct airway cytokine profiles are present in current smokers and never smokers with asthma and could provide an explanatory mechanism for the altered clinical behavior observed in smokers with asthma.</p>
Absolute Present, Zen and Schrödingerâs One Mind
Erwin Schrödinger holds a prominent place in the history of science primarily due to his crucial role in the development of quantum physics. What is perhaps lesser known are his insights into subject-object duality, consciousness and mind. He documented himself that these were influenced by the Upanishads, a collection of ancient Hindu spiritual texts. Central to his thoughts in this area is that Mind is only One and there is no separation between subject and object. This chapter aims to bridge Schrödingerâs view on One Mind with the teachings of DĆgen, a twelfth century Zen master. This bridge is formed by addressing the question of how time relates to One Mind, and subject-object duality. Schrödinger describes the experience of One Mind to be like a timeless now, whereas subject-object duality involves a linear continuum of time. We show how these differing positions are unified in the notion of âabsolute presentâ, which was put forward in the philosophy of Nishida KitarĆ (1871â1945). In addition, we argue that it is in this notion of absolute present that the views of Schrödinger, DĆgen and Nishida meet
Realâlife experience in switching to new extended halfâlife products at European haemophilia centres
The concept of replacement therapy in haemophilia is changing significantly thanks to the switch from standard products to extended halfâlife products. These novel drugs are showing beneficial effects overcoming current prophylaxis limitations by reducing the infusion frequency, maintaining a higher trough level to ensure a lower risk of bleeding, and making treatment significantly less distressing to patients by improving the quality of life. Realâlife data on the efficacy of novel drugs and their impact on routine management of haemophilia A and B patients are still limited. This manuscript reports the results of a European survey conducted by the European Association for Haemophilia and Allied Disorders (EAHAD) at the beginning of 2018 on the clinical management of patients using extended halfâlife recombinant FVIII and FIX fusion products, since at the time of the survey none of the PEGylated products were available yet. We report data on the efficacy of these novel drugs by 33 European haemophilia centres that have already switched to extended halfâlife fusion products, showing a significant reduction in the number of infusions and a satisfactory trough levels in the clinical care of haemophilia patients, with a greater impact for haemophilia B
Temperature triggers immune evasion by Neisseria meningitidis.
Neisseria meningitidis has multiple strategies to evade complement-mediated killing, which contribute to its ability to cause septicaemic disease and meningitis. However, the meningococcus is primarily an obligate commensal of the human nasopharynx, and it is unclear why the bacterium has evolved exquisite mechanisms to avoid host immunity. Here we demonstrate that mechanisms of meningococcal immune evasion and resistance against complement increase in response to an elevation in ambient temperature. We have identified three independent RNA thermosensors located in the 5âČ-UTRs of genes necessary for capsule biosynthesis, the expression of factor H binding protein, and sialylation of lipopolysaccharide, which are essential for meningococcal resistance against immune killing(1,2). Therefore increased temperature (which occurs during inflammation) acts as a âdanger signalâ for the meningococcus which enhances defence against human immune killing. Infection with viral pathogens, such as influenza, leads to inflammation in the nasopharynx with an elevated temperature and recruitment of immune effectors(3,4). Thermoregulation of immune defence could offer an adaptive advantage to the meningococcus during co-infection with other pathogens, and promote the emergence of virulence in an otherwise commensal bacterium
Bronchiectasis insanity:Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results?
Bronchiectasis is an increasingly common disease with a significant impact on quality of life and morbidity of affected patients. It is also a very heterogeneous disease with numerous different underlying etiologies and presentations. Most treatments for bronchiectasis are based on low-quality evidence; consequently, no treatments have been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration or the European Medicines Agency for the treatment of bronchiectasis. The last several years have seen numerous clinical trials in which the investigational agent, thought to hold great promise, did not demonstrate a clinically or statistically significant benefit. This commentary will review the likely reasons for these disappointing results and a potential approach that may have a greater likelihood of defining evidence-based treatment for bronchiectasis
Sterically restricted tin phosphines, stabilized by weak intramolecular donor-acceptor interactions
Funding: Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)Four related sterically restricted pen-substituted acenaphthenes have been prepared containing mixed tin phosphorus moieties in the proximal 5,6-positions (Acenap[SnR3][(PPr2)-Pr-i]; Acenap = acenaphthene-5,6-diyl; R-3 = Ph-3 (1), Ph2Cl (2), Me2Cl (3), Bu2Cl (4)). The degree of intramolecular P-Sn bonding within the series was investigated by X-ray crystallography, solution and solid-state NMR spectroscopy, and density functional theory (DFT/B3LYP/SBKJC/PCM) calculations. All members of the series adopt a conformation such that the phosphorus lone pair is located directly opposite the tin center, promoting an intramolecular donor acceptor P -> Sn type interaction. The extent of covalent bonding between Sn and P is found to be much greater in triorganotin chlorides 2-4 in comparison with the triphenyl derivative 1. Coordination of a highly electronegative chlorine atom naturally increases the Lewis acidity of the tin center, enhancing the Ip(P)-sigma*(Sn-Y) donor acceptor 3c-4e type interaction, as indicated by conspicuously short Sn-P peri distances and significant (1)J(P-31,Sn-119) spin spin coupling constants (SSCCs) in the range 740-754 Hz. Evidence supporting the presence of this interaction was also found in solid-state NMR spectra of some of the compounds which exhibit an indirect spin spin coupling on the same order of magnitude as observed in solution. DFT calculations confirm the increased covalent bonding between P and Sn in 2-4, with notable WBIs of ca. 0.35 obtained, in comparison to 0.1 in 1.PostprintPeer reviewe
