Wolbachia dominance influences the Culex quinquefasciatus microbiota
Microorganisms present in mosquitoes and their interactions are key factors affecting insect development. Among them, Wolbachia is closely associated with the host and affects several fitness parameters. In this study, the bacterial and fungal microbiota from two laboratory Culex quinquefasciatus isolines (wild type and tetracycline-cured) were characterized by metagenome amplicon sequencing of the ITS2 and 16S rRNA genes at different developmental stages and feeding conditions. We identified 572 bacterial and 61 fungal OTUs. Both isolines presented variable bacterial communities and different trends in the distribution of diversity among the groups. The lowest bacterial richness was detected in sugar-fed adults of the cured isoline, whereas fungal richness was highly reduced in blood-fed mosquitoes. Beta diversity analysis indicated that isolines are an important factor in the differentiation of mosquito bacterial communities. Considering composition, Penicillium was the dominant fungal genus, whereas Wolbachia dominance was inversely related to that of Enterobacteria (mainly Thorsellia and Serratia). This study provides a more complete overview of the mosquito microbiome, emphasizing specific highly abundant components that should be considered in microorganism manipulation approaches to control vector-borne diseases
Participaci贸n de los p茅ptidos natriur茅ticos en la hipertensi贸n renovascular y su correlaci贸n con la evoluci贸n de la hipertrofia de miocardio
RESUMENDurante la hipertensi贸n arterial, las interacciones entre las sobrecargas de presi贸n y volumenconducen a diferentes patrones de hipertrofia card铆aca y a un aumento de los p茅ptidosnatriur茅ticos (PN). Los perfiles de s铆ntesis y secreci贸n de ANP y BNP se han investigado enmodelos de hipertensi贸n arterial. Sin embargo, a煤n no se ha estudiado su evoluci贸n diferencialdurante per铆odos agudos y cr贸nicos de la hipertrofia card铆aca producida por sobrecargade presi贸n. Por este motivo estudiamos ratas Sprague-Dawley con el modelo 1 ri帽贸n-1 clip alas 2, 4, 6 y 12 semanas, correlacionando la evoluci贸n de dichos perfiles con la hipertrofiacard铆aca y la hipertensi贸n arterial.Observamos una correlaci贸n positiva entre la elevaci贸n de la presi贸n arterial y el grado dehipertrofia card铆aca, presentando ambos par谩metros un incremento dependiente del tiempoa partir de las 2 semanas. La expresi贸n del BNP mostr贸 un aumento precoz a las 2semanas de tratamiento, mientras que el ANP se increment贸 significativamente a las 6semanas. No obstante, la expresi贸n del ANP aument贸 en forma gradual, lo que permiti贸 sucorrelaci贸n con la hipertrofia y la hipertensi贸n.En estadios tempranos del desarrollo de la hipertrofia producida por el modelo renovascular,la expresi贸n de los PN responder铆a en forma diferencial, increment谩ndose en forma precozel BNP. Con la evoluci贸n de la hipertrofia, la expresi贸n del BNP deja de ser espec铆fica y elaumento de ambos PN pasa a depender y a correlacionarse con el grado de evoluci贸n de lahipertrofia card铆aca.REV ARGENT CARDIOL 2010;78:339-345
