    Wells’ syndrome (WS) is an uncommon inflammatory skin disease which typically presents single or multiple erythematous and edematous urticarial plaques similar to cellulitis. The lesions may evolve into blue-grey morphea-like lesions and may persist for weeks or months. They ultimately heal without scar. Other clinical presentations reported in literature include papular and nodular and, rarely, bullous eruptions. Previously, bullous Wells’ syndrome was rarely reported in the literature. Herein, we describe a case of a female patient with bullous Wells’ syndrome localized to the upper limbs without any associated disorders

    Whey protein is a source of protein that was isolated from milk. Whey proteins are composed of higher levels of essential amino acids. The role of diet in acne etiology has been investigated for several years. It was established that milk and milk products can trigger acneiform lesions, and recent evidence supports the role of whey protein supplements in acne. Herein, we report 6 healthy male adolescent patients developing acne located only to the trunk after the consumption of whey protein supplements for faster bodybuilding. This is the first observation which specified the location of acneiform lesions among bodybuilders. In our opinion, a trendy and common health problem is beginning among adolescents in the gyms

    A b s t r a c t Introduction: Isotretinoin has been successfully used for the treatment of acne vulgaris. Aim: To investigate the effects of isotretinoin on body mass index (BMI), to determine whether isotretinoin causes any changes in serum adiponectin, leptin, and ghrelin levels in acne vulgaris patients, and to correlate variables. Material and methods: Thirty-two patients were included in this study. Oral isotretinoin was begun at a dose of 0.5-0.6 mg/kg and raised to 0.6-0.75 mg/kg. Pretreatment and posttreatment third-month BMI and adiponectin, leptin, and ghrelin serum levels were measured. Results: The pre-and posttreatment BMI values were not significantly different. In addition, serum adiponectin and leptin levels were significantly increased following isotretinoin therapy while serum ghrelin levels were not different. Conclusions: Isotretinoin may exert its anti-inflammatory activity by increasing leptin and adiponectin levels

    Introduction: Lichen planus (LP) is a chronic inflammatory disease, where the psychogenic factors seem to play an important role in the pathogenesis. Aim: To determine the expression of corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) receptor type 1 (CRH-R1) in LP. Material and methods: Thirty-two LP patients and 17 age/gender-matched controls were included in the study. Detailed information about the disease and body surface area (BSA) covered by the lesions was recorded. Immunohistochemically, the expression of CRH-R1 was stained in the lesional skin of patients with LP and in the control group. Results: The comparison of CRH-R1 expression showed a statistically significant difference between LP patients and the controls (p < 0.05). Additionally, we did not observe any correlation between BSA and staining intensity in LP patients. Conclusions: Our study showed an increase in CRH-R1 expression in LP lesions. These results support the participation of the cutaneous CRH/CRH-R1 system in the pathogenesis of LP skin lesions

    Rates of skincare product and cosmetic procedure use in patients with acne vulgaris and the effective factors: A multicenter study with 1,755 patients

    Background Skincare products and cosmetic procedures are used as an adjunct or complementary to conventional drug therapy for acne vulgaris (AV). Objective To evaluate the use of skincare products and the frequency of cosmetic procedures in AV treatment. Methods A total of 1,755 patients with AV completed the survey prepared by the researchers and the Cardiff Acne Disability Index (CADI) questionnaire. The clinical findings and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) severity scores were recorded by the dermatologists. Results For AV, 66.7% of the patients stated that they used skincare products and 26.7% had undergone cosmetic procedures. The use of skincare products was statistically significantly higher in women (female: 74.5%, male: 57.7%, p =%76.8, p < 0.0001). The rate of cosmetic procedures was higher in those with higher CADI scores (users: 7.8 +/- 3.8; non-users: 7.1 +/- 3.96, p < 0.0001); older patients (users: 22.7 +/- 10.7 years; non-users: 21.3 +/- 5 years, p < 0.0001); high school (25.6%); and graduate (28.9%) education (p = 0.043), those with lower disease severity (FDA-1: 31.1%; FDA-2: 28.5%, FDA-3: 27.1%, FDA-4: 20.4%, p = 0.022); smokers (smokers: 32.5%; non-smokers: 25.5%, p = 0.020), and those with AV in the family (present: 29.8%; absent: 24.2%, p = 0.009). The patients most frequently used cleansers (85.2%) as cosmetic products, and most commonly underwent skincare treatment (71%) as an interventional procedure. They mostly learned about such products and methods from the Internet, and 33.3% of the participants had undergone procedures performed by non-physicians. Conclusion The patients generally choose skincare products as a result of their Internet search and sometimes have these procedures performed by non-physicians. Dermatologists should be aware of this situation and inform their patients about appropriate products and procedures
