Determination of the Odour Adsorption Behaviour of Wool

    Get PDF
In this study, the adsorption/desorption behaviours of water vapor on wool, as well as of the redolents, such as acetic acid and benzaldehyde, have been investigated. For this purpose, static and dynamic experiments were carried out. Static experiments were conducted to model stagnant environments. In the experiments, wool came into contact with the material to be adsorbed or dry air and the weight increase/decrease was recorded for a certain period of time. The results obtained showed that the wool adsorbed the benzaldehyde very little, whereas the adsorbed amount and the rate were abundantly increased for acetic acid under the same conditions. From these findings, the adsorption capacity of wool for the redolents was tentatively ranked in accordance with their adsorbed amounts as acetic acid>water>benzaldehyde

    The centrosymmetric binuclear complex, [Zn2(C8H7O2)4(C7H7NO)2], has been synthesized and characterized by FT-IR and NMR methods. The obtained Zn(II) metal complex has been also characterized by a single crystal X-ray diffraction study. Crystal data for C46H42N2O10Zn2: Monoclinic, Space group P21/c (no. 14), a = 10.4827(3) Å, b = 8.6141(2) Å, c = 24.7582(6) Å, β = 101.066(1) °, V = 2194.07(10) Å3, Z = 4, Dcalc = 1.383 g/cm3, 22545 reflections measured (3.96° ≤ 2Θ ≤ 52.74°), 4465 unique (Rint = 0.0388, Rsigma = 0.0333) which were used in all calculations. The final R1 was 0.0489 (I ≥ 2s(I)) and wR2 was 0.1533 (all data). The four nearest oxygen atoms around each zinc ion form a distorted square-planar arrangement, and the distorted square-pyramidal coordination is completed by the nitrogen atom of the 1-(pyridin-4-yl)ethanone compound

Objective: The goal of the present study was to determine the effect of systemic and topical ozone application on alveolar bone loss (ABL) by evaluating the effect of Hypoxia-inducible factor −1 alpha (HIF-1-α) and receptor activator of NF-kB ligand (RANKL)-positive cells on histopathological and immunohistochemical changes in a rat periodontitis model. Methodology: Thirty male Wistar rats were divided into three groups: 1) Group C (control group); 2) Group SO (systemic ozone group) and 3) Group TO (topical ozone group). Experimental periodontitis was induced with a 3/0 silk suture placed at the mandibular left first molars of rats, and the suture was removed 14 days later. Ozone gas was injected intraperitoneally (0.7 mg/kg) in SO group. Topical ozone application protocol was performed using an ozone generator at 80% concentration (4th grade) 90- degree probe for the duration of 30 s. Both ozone applications were carried out for two weeks at intervals of two days. Histomorphometric and immunohistochemical analysis were performed. Results:ABL was significantly lower in Group SO compared to Group C (p: 0.0052). HIF-1α- positive cells were significantly lower in Group TO than in Group C (p: 0.0043). RANKL-positive cells were significantly lower in Group SO and in Group TO compared to the control group (p: 0.0033, p: 0.0075, respectively). Conclusion: Both ozone applications decreased RANKL-positive cell counts, TO application decreased HIF-1-α positive cells counts, and SO application was found to be more effective in reducing ABL compared to control group

    Get PDF
Adolescent pregnancy is an important health problem worldwide. This study aims to thoroughly investigate the literature to examine the effects of the technology-based breastfeeding approach on breastfeeding success in adolescent mothers. To be pregnant and to be an adolescent at the same time increase the risk of mortality and morbidity in mothers and infants. Such breastfeeding challenges as not breastfeeding or starting but not continuing breastfeeding, and negative thinking/practices on breastfeeding are more common in adolescent mothers than in adult mothers. The way education and counselling is delivered is crucial to inform and support the risky adolescent mothers for breastfeeding. Technology-based approaches has been increasing to improve the effectiveness and length of such education in recent years. Technology-based approaches include web-based programs, tablets, mobile phones, messages, and applications. Specific to individual and age-appropriate technology-based breastfeeding approaches with a multidisciplinary team could provide effective and successful breastfeeding. The integration of breastfeeding approaches with technology could increase the initiation and continuation of breastfeeding, the rates of breastfeeding of babies and nutrition information/ behaviors of mothers considering the use of technology by adolescents. Health care providers have significant roles to maintain, protect, and improve the maternal and infant health and also to prevent adolescent pregnancies. It is thought that taking into consideration the developmental characteristics of adolescent mothers, it would be beneficial the constitution of the technology-based breastfeeding programs by health care providers with the roles of caring, counseling, educating, researching, collaborating, and advocating

Objectives: Preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) remote from term is an important obstetric cause of maternal and fetal adverse outcomes. The aim of our study is to examine the efficacy of ampicillin and Lactobacillus casei rhamnosus treatment in cases of PPROM remote from term. Material and methods: The study was carried out by examining the results of cases who were given Ampicillin and Lactobacillus casei rhamnosus treatment. The patients were divided into two groups. Group 1 who didn’t develop clinical chorioamnionitis and Group 2 who developed clinical chorioamnionitis. Obstetric characteristics, neonatal outcomes, adverse events were recorded. Results: A total of 46 pregnant women, 40 in Group 1 and six in Group 2, were included in the study. The frequency of clinical chorioamnionitis developing during the treatment was found to be 13.0%. Mean gestational age at diagnosis was 28.43 ± 2.38 and 28.17 ± 1.33 for Groups 1 and Group 2, respectively. Mean gestational age at the time of delivery was 32.38 ± 2.07 31.33 ± 1.63 for Group 1 and Group 2, respectively. The mean latency period for Group 1 and Group 2 was 27.45 ± 1.71 days, 23.66 ± 4.53, respectively. Sepsis developed in six newborns (15%) in Group 1, while it developed in three newborns (50%) in Group 2. While 90% of the babies in Group 1 were discharged from the hospital, this rate was 66.7% in Group 2. Conclusions: Ampicillin + Lactobacillus casei rhamnosus is an effective treatment method in PPROM cases and positively affects perinatal outcomes

    Get PDF
PURPOSEThis article will examine the usefulness of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) on the assessment of axillary lymph nodes (ALN) of breast cancer patients.METHODSAxillary lymph nodes in 66 breast cancer patients were examined by DTI and DWI, and the largest lymph node with increased cortical thickness in axilla was selected. Morphological features, apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), volume anisotropy, and fractional anisotropy values were measured by using a special software. Imaging findings and histopathological results were recorded.RESULTSMetastatic ALN were detected in 43 (65.1%) patients. Cortical thickness of the metastatic ALN was significantly higher than the non-metastatic ALNs (P < .001), and the long-axis-to-shortaxis ratio was significantly lower in metastatic ALNs (P < .001). There was a statistically significant difference between the ALN status and fatty hilum presence (P < .001). Apparent diffusion coefficient values of metastatic ALNs were statistically lower than those of non-metastatic ALNs (P < .001) using a cutoff value of 1.26 × 10−3 mm2 /s for b=500 ADC and 1.21 × 10−3 mm2 /s for b=800 ADC which had 97.7% sensitivity and 91.3% specificity. Fractional anisotropy and volume anisotropy values were significantly different between both groups. A cutoff value of 0.47 for b-500 fractional anisotropy had 83.7% sensitivity, 69.6% specificity 69.6% positive predictive value, and 83.7% negative predictive value. A cutoff value of 0.33 for b=500 volume anisotropy had 76.7% sensitivity, 78.3% specificity, 86.8% positive predictive value, and 64.3% negative predictive value.CONCLUSIONApparent diffusion coefficient value of metastatic ALNs was found to be significantly lower than those of non-metastatic ALN, and DTI metrics of metastatic ALN were found to be significantly higher than those of non-metastatic ALN. Overall, ADC had a better diagnostic performance than morphological features, fractional anisotropy, and volume anisotropy. Diffusion tensor imagingderived diffusion metrics may be used to complement breast magnetic resonance imaging in the future after further standardization of the imaging parameters

Case Report: A 4 year-old-patient was diagnosed with GSD IXb at 13 months of age with mildly elevated transaminases and hepatomegaly. During the follow-up period, there was no hypoglycemia. Development and growth were normal. In the last month, the onset of generalized edema was reported. Urinalysis showed a high protein level. He had low serum albumin, high serum triglycerides cholesterol. Complement levels were normal. The patient was diagnosed as minimal change disease with a renal biopsy. He was treated with oral prednisone. Discussion: Minimal Change Disease is the most common cause of idiopathic nephrotic syndrome cases in children and the first step for therapy is the usage of corticosteroids. This is the first report of nephrotic syndrome associated with GSD IXb disease

Asymmetrische Strompreistransmissionen und Österreichs Stromhandel im Zeitraum 2002 - 2013

    No full text

Lipoid proteinosis in the eastern Mediterranean region of Turkey

    No full text
Background: Lipoid proteinosis (LP), also known as hyalinosis cutis et mucosae or Urbach-Wiethe disease, is a rare autosomal recessive genodermatosis. Hyalin-like material is deposited in multiple organs, including the skin, oral mucosa, larynx, and brain. Only about 300 cases have been reported in the literature so far. Occurrence of LP in siblings is also rare. The reasons for relatively large number of cases, the clinical features of the patients, and the association of LP with other clinical conditions are described in this article. Aims: The aim of this study is to show that LP is not rare in Turkey and consanguineous marriage is still a social problem. Methods: We included patients between the years of 2008-2011 with lesions resembling LP. Based on the findings of clinical and histological examination of all cases, a diagnosis of LP was made. Results: We presented six different families with multiple family members suffered from LP. In total, we determined eight children and six adult patients. Three of eight children were from the same family (sisters), the other three children belonged to another family (brothers), two children were from another family (brother and sister), and the adult patients were from three different families. Conclusions: Patients with LP are likely to present first to a dermatologist because of the appearance of their skin; therefore, it is important that the dermatologic diagnosis is not to be missed. We described patients with LP and discuss the salient features of this disease
