    START in a five-dimensional conformal domain

    In this paper we give a brief review of the pseudo-Riemannian geometry of the five-dimensional homogeneous space for the conformal group O(4,2). Its topology is described and its relation to the conformally compactified Minkowski space is described. Its metric is calculated using a generalized half-space representation. Compactification via Lie-sphere geometry is outlined. Possible applications to Jaime Keller's START theory may follow by using its predecessor - the 5-optics of Yu. B. Rumer.     The SAMI Galaxy Survey: The third and final data release

    We have entered a new era where integral-field spectroscopic surveys of galaxies are sufficiently large to adequately sample large-scale structure over a cosmologically significant volume. This was the primary design goal of the SAMI Galaxy Survey. Here, in Data Release 3, we release data for the full sample of 3068 unique galaxies observed. This includes the SAMI cluster sample of 888 unique galaxies for the first time. For each galaxy, there are two primary spectral cubes covering the blue (370-570 nm) and red (630-740 nm) optical wavelength ranges at spectral resolving power of R = 1808 and 4304, respectively. For each primary cube, we also provide three spatially binned spectral cubes and a set of standardized aperture spectra. For each galaxy, we include complete 2D maps from parametrized fitting to the emission-line and absorption-line spectral data. These maps provide information on the gas ionization and kinematics, stellar kinematics and populations, and more. All data are available online through Australian Astronomical Optics Data Central

    Magnetic fields on a range of scales play a large role in the ecosystems of galaxies, both in the galactic disk and in the extended layers of gas away from the plane. Observing magnetic field strength, structure and orientation is complex, and necessarily indirect. Observational data of magnetic fields in the halo of the Milky Way are scarce, and non-conclusive about the large-scale structure of the field. In external galaxies, various large-scale configurations of magnetic fields are measured, but many uncertainties about exact configurations and their origin remain. There is a strong interaction between magnetic fields and other components in the interstellar medium such as ionized and neutral gas and cosmic rays. The energy densities of these components are comparable on large scales, indicating that magnetic fields are not passive tracers but that magnetic field feedback on the other interstellar medium components needs to be taken into account.Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures.     Total synthesis and preliminary biological evaluation of cis-solamin isomers

    An efficient total synthesis of cis-solamin (1) has been achieved in 21% overall yield and with a longest linear sequence of just 11 steps from aldehyde S. A key feature of the approach was the use of asymmetric permanganate-promoted oxidative cyclization to introduce four of the five required stereocenters in a single step. The use of robust and chemoselective methodology meant that the use of protecting groups could be avoided during the assembly of cis-solamin (1) from the three fragments 23, 6, and 4. The methodology was also applied to the synthesis of three further cis-solamin isomers 2, ent-1, and ent-2.
