A multichannel reflectometer for edge density profile measurements at the ICRF antenna in ASDEX upgrade
A multichannel reflectometer will be built for the new three-straps ICRF antenna of ASDEX Upgrade (AUG), to study the density behavior in front of it. Ten different accesses to the plasma are available for the three reflectometer channels that can be interchanged without breaking the machine vacuum. Frequency is scanned from 40 GHz to 68 GHz, in 10 mu s, which corresponds to a cut-off density ranging from 10(18) divided by 10(19)m(-3) in the Right cut-off of the X-mode propagation, for standard toroidal magnetic field values of AUG
Epidemiology and economic impact of moderate and severe neurotrophic keratopathy in Italy
Neurotrophic keratopathy is a rare corneal disease caused by impaired corneal innervation. There is a paucity of published evidence on neurotrophic keratopathy with no published studies on the economics of neurotrophic keratopathy in the Italian or international literature. This cost analysis aimed at assessing the economic impact of moderate (persistent epithelial defect) and severe (corneal ulcer without perforation) neurotrophic keratopathy from the perspective of the National Health Service and patients in Italy. Treatment algorithm and health resource use information were collected from a panel of nine experts from Italian centres specialized in ocular/corneal conditions. National ambulatory and inpatient hospital tariffs were applied to units of service, and Agenzia Italiana del Farmaco (AIFA) published prices to pharmaceuticals. Mean annual per patient cost was derived as an average cost weighted by the proportion of patients on each respective treatment and length of the treatment. The National Health Service + patient perspective additionally included patients' out-of-pocket expenses. The mean annual estimated National Health Service cost of treatment was €5167 (persistent epithelial defect) and €10,885 (corneal ulcer without perforation) per patient. Costs were largely driven by ambulatory visits and hospital interventions. The mean annual estimated National Health Service + patient cost was €5731 (persistent epithelial defect) and €11,478 (corneal ulcer without perforation) per patient, including cost of out-of-pocket expenses for pharmaceuticals and therapeutic contact lenses. Mean annual cost of neurotrophic keratopathy in Italy doubles with disease severity. Further research is warranted to provide more insight especially into societal costs
Core integrated simulations for the Divertor Tokamak Test facility scenarios towards consistent core-pedestal-SOL modelling
Deuterium plasma discharges of the Divertor Tokamak Test facility (DTT) in different operational scenarios have been predicted by a comprehensive first-principle based integrated modelling activity using state-of-art quasi-linear transport models. The results of this work refer to the updated DTT configuration, which includes a device size optimisation (enlargement to R-0=2.19 a = 0.70 m) and upgrades in the heating systems. The focus of this paper is on the core modelling, but special attention was paid to the consistency with the scrape-off layer parameters required to achieve divertor plasma detachment. The compatibility of these physics-based predicted scenarios with the electromagnetic coil system capabilities was then verified. In addition, first estimates of DTT sawteeth and of DTT edge localised modes were achieved
TOPLHA: an accurate and efficient numerical tool for analysis and design of LH antennas
This paper presents a self-consistent, integral-equation approach for the analysis of plasma-facing lower hybrid (LH) launchers; the geometry of the waveguide grill structure can be completely arbitrary, including the non-planar mouth of the grill. This work is based on the theoretical approach and code implementation of the TOPICA code, of which it shares the modular structure and constitutes the extension into the LH range. Code results are validated against the literature results and simulations from similar code
First-principle based multi-channel integrated modelling in support to the design of the Divertor Tokamak Test facility
An intensive integrated modelling work of main scenarios of the new tokamak DTT (Divertor Tokamak Test facility) with the Single Null divertor configuration has been performed using first-principle quasi-linear transport models, in support to the design of the device and to the definition of its scientific work-programme. First results of this integrated modelling work on DTT (R0= 2.14 m, a= 0.65 m) are presented here along with outcome of the gyrokinetic simulations used to validate the reduced models in the DTT range of parameters. As a result of this work, the heating mix was defined, the size of device was increased to R0= 2.19 m and a= 0.70 m, the use of pellets for fuelling has been advised and reference profiles for diagnostic design, estimates of neutron yields and fast particle losses have become available.</p
