From naive to sophisticated behavior in multiagents based financial market models
We discuss the behavior of two magnitudes, physical complexity and mutual
information function of the outcome of a model of heterogeneous, inductive
rational agents inspired in the El Farol Bar problem and the Minority Game. The
first is a measure rooted in Kolmogorov-Chaitin theory and the second one a
measure related with information entropy of Shannon.
We make extensive computer simulations, as result of which, we propose an
ansatz for physical complexity and establish the dependence of exponent of that
ansatz from the parameters of the model. We discuss the accuracy of our results
and the relationship with the behavior of mutual information function as a
measure of time correlations of agents choice.Comment: 16 pages, 4 figures, submitted to Physica
Evolutionary freezing in a competitive population
We show that evolution in a population of adaptive agents, repeatedly
competing for a limited resource, can come to an abrupt halt. This transition
from evolutionary to non-evolutionary behavior arises as the global resource
level is changed, and is reminiscent of a phase transition to a frozen state.
Its origin lies in the inductive decision-making of the agents, the limited
global information that they possess and the dynamical feedback inherent in the
system.Comment: LaTeX file + 4 separate (pdf) figures. Revised version has minor

MATHEMATICAL MODEL OF ENERGY COST IN SPRINT RUNNING
The aim of this study was to analyze energetic cost and metabolic power during the 100m races of Athletics (data from the World Athletic Championship 1997) using a new
energetic approach. We used the instantaneous speed at every 10 metres of the race, due to the acceleration characteristics and in order to predict the energetic cost
throughout the construction of a mathematical model adapted from Di Prampero et al. (2005). The inputs used in the model were the ‘equivalent body mass’, ‘equivalent slope’,
instantaneous speeds and proportionality constant to each 10cm of events. The average energy cost was 6.78 J.Kg-1.m-1
Nailfold videocapillaroscopy in antisynthetase syndrome
A 57-year-old woman with a diagnosis of antisynthetase syndrome (ASSD) underwent a nailfold videocapillaroscopy (NVC) showing a scleroderma pattern. Alterations in capillary morphology have been reported in adults with inflammatory myositis (IM) but only recently have the differences in NVC findings between these two diseases been established. ASSD is currently classified as a subset of IM, for which reason only a few studies in literature evaluate its specific hallmarks, showing nonspecific features of NVC in patients with polymyositis and dermatomyositis (DM) and antisynthetase antibodies. To our knowledge, this is the first description of ASSD capillaroscopy features, and the first report of NVC in ASSD with evidence of scleroderma pattern. Further studies are needed to define clearly frequency, typical features, and possible correlation with clinical and serological data of NVC changes in ASSD, differences between microangiopathy in ASSD and systemic sclerosis or DM
