The present work had as its main objective to identify and characterize milk production systems through methods of multivaried statistical analysis. Factorial analysis, cluster, discriminant and canonical correlation were utilized. The production gradation and defrayal were the main classification criterium among the productors. Combining the results obtained with the cluster analysis and the canonical correlation analysis, the second classification analysis aggregates the grazing lands and the care with the flock health. Three productors groups were identified, among which the first one is prominent for aggregating about 90% of the total analyzed and is composed by relatively smaller productors. The discriminant analysis and the measuring among financial indicators confirm such classification.multivaried analysis, milk cattle raising, Minas Gerais., Livestock Production/Industries, Research Methods/ Statistical Methods,

The 90’s decade were marked by the economy globalization. Brazil’s insertion in the world market in a unilateral way, in a liberal politics, broke the nationalist long development cycle and started a new era of economical and political order. The milk and other dairy products produce in the country started to suffer the competition from products coming from countries of the MERCOSUL and other parts of the world. In this perspective, it is absolutely necessary that the dairy industries adopt new behaviors which would increase their competitiveness. For the dairy co-operatives, this greater competitive environment brings about greater challenges, for the agro-industrial strategies of these enterprises are determined with priority for their associates agricultural interests, besides having certain management and financial fragility in face of the competitive markets. The main objective of this work is to evaluate the association impacts by means of a case study consisting of dairy cooperative enterprises in Minas Gerais, as an alternative to achieve a better market competitiveness. The present research is based on the “Firm Theory”, in which the enterprises search for the profit maximizing and the cost production minimizing, and the cost analyzes, which allows the carrying out of the cooperatives structure costs diagnosis, determining the contribution per product of each cooperative margin and identifying the economical results. The wholesale collecting is not used by all the cooperatives; only three of the six analyzed adopted such system, offering smaller costs. The cooperatives, which processed a bigger collected milk percentage, showed better results than the others did. The contribution margin analyzes showed that only two, of the six cooperatives, presented positive results whereas the others had negative results, accumulating losses during the studied period. The association process analyzed provides the cooperatives a competitiveness increase, by means of minimizing the production costs; increasing the production scale; and decreasing the operational costs. This result indicates that, for the dairy cooperatives achieve more competitiveness in the globalized market face, it is necessary the adoption of strategies which can make possible the increase in the productive scale, and the association was seen as a viable alternative, providing these cooperatives with a greater competitiveness power
