Cybersecurity Maturity in the Pacific Islands – Informing a Regional CERT Framework
Cybersecurity acts as a strong influence on national governments’ security, economic, physical and social interests. A common policy goal of governments is to protect their respective interests by supporting cybersecurity threat and attack response capabilities. Contemporary research addresses the use of multi-national CERT frameworks to improve national cybersecurity capability maturity and resilience, however little research has been conducted into the efficacy of such frameworks with Pacific Island nations. This research employs a qualitative interview technique to develop an inductive model for a regional Pacific Islands CERT framework. The research proposes a Pacific Islands regional model based on a network of affiliated national CERTs that operate independently and reflect their respective national interests, while collaborating on matters of shared interest, supported by regional partners providing targeted assistance to build national and regional cybersecurity capability maturity and resilience
Numerical and Physical Study on the Energy Dissipation at Inflatable Gates
Inflatable gates have a number of advantages when compared with standard steel gates. In case of flood the rubber membrane is deflated to a flat structure and placed on the weir sill. This paper deals with the energy dissipation at inflated gates, in particular the influence of the weir sill on the design of the stilling basin with respect to the described boundary conditions. Numerical investigations were carried out using OpenFOAM (Open source Field Operation And Manipulation). Additionally, experiments were performed in a physical model. The hydraulic characteristic of low Froude hydraulic jump, turbulent flow structures and the energy dissipation mechanism during overflow are presented and discussed
SePEnTra: A secure and privacy-preserving energy trading mechanisms in transactive energy market
In this paper, we design and present a novel model called SePEnTra to ensure
the security and privacy of energy data while sharing with other entities
during energy trading to determine optimal price signals. Furthermore, the
market operator can use this data to detect malicious activities of users in
the later stage without violating privacy (e.g., deviation of actual energy
generation/consumption from forecast beyond a threshold). We use two
cryptographic primitives, additive secret sharing and Pedersen commitment, in
SePEnTra. The performance of our model is evaluated theoretically and
numerically. We compare the performance of SePEnTra with the same Transactive
energy market (TEM) framework without security mechanisms. The result shows
that even though using advanced cryptographic primitives in a large market
framework, SePEnTra has very low computational complexity and communication
overhead. Moreover, it is storage efficient for all parties
Trust in Distributed small sized Data Centers
Abstract Peer-to-peer (P2P) networks have large advantages over server-based solutions in terms of efficiency for bandwidth consumption and server workload. This is particularly relevant for the distribution of large volume content like multimedia data. This paper proposes a security architecture that provides essential security functionality for a platform enabling commercial P2P applications. One main characteristic of such a platform is, that the devices of the P2P network are not under the physical control of the owner. The proposed security and trust architecture includes solutions for integrity protection of data as well as for software on the device, exclusion of manipulated nodes from the network, and isolation between applications by different stakeholders residing in parallel on the same platform. All solutions can be build on existing secure hardware anchors as provided by the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) and its certification infrastructure
Accounting of vehicles
The relevance of the study is determined by the increased need for each company in a vehicle. A car is always a big expense, which should be recorded by accountant. A company should develop internal regulations, instructions, other organizational and administrative documents required for accounting fixed assets, including vehicles, and control over their use. Method of accounting in the organization is one of the complex issues of company management. The aim of the study is to determine the items of expenses for a vehicle in accounting. Methods of research: methods of empirical research (observation, comparison) and methods of theoretical research (abstraction, analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, mental modeling, climbing from the abstract to the concrete). Results. The paper considers the main expenses for maintaining motor transport. The authors have analyzed the theoretical materials on the chosen subjects, state legislative acts and selected the method of entering the costs for road transport into accounting taking into account the changes in the legislation of 2017
