EDP social action 2020: sustainability and financial performance

CEMSThe Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) represents an important benchmark in the field of corporate sustainability. Energias de Portugal (EDP) has been a DJSI leader for two years, and aims to remain number one, efforts that were addressed in the adjacent Business Project. This Work Project focuses on providing a complementary financial perspective on EDP’s pursuit of sustainability, and presence in the DJSI. An overview of existing research and a study of 38 European firms, using the inclusion in the DJSI as an indicator of sustainability, are used to try to understand the relationship between sustainability and financial performance

Functional characterization of cell wall damage response genes in Arabidopsis thaliana

Plant cell walls form the first barrier during exposure to biotic and abiotic stresses and are constantly remodelled during developmental and growth processes. Thus, it is conceivable that a dedicated monitoring system perceives changes in cell wall integrity and initiates a coordinated set of responses. Currently, there is only limited knowledge on how this system functions. Recent findings have suggested that cell wall damage (CWD) caused by chemical or genetic inhibition of cellulose biosynthesis and pathogen attack triggers a canonical set of overlapping responses. These include ectopic deposition of lignin, increases in production of jasmonic (JA) and salicylic acid (SA), ethylene, reactive oxygen species (ROS), callose deposition, transcriptional activation of stress response mechanisms and changes in cell wall composition and structure. Isoxaben is a chemical inhibitor of cellulose biosynthesis that induces CWD. Microarray-based gene expression profiling has previously identified several genes whose expression is transiently induced in Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings exposed to isoxaben. In the work presented here, the function of two of these genes, ATL2 and AT5G43450, was characterized. To achieve this, loss of function knock-out lines for each gene were used in phenotypical analyses based on the isoxaben-induced responses. Additionally, molecular tools were developed to study the global expression pattern and sub-cellular localization of ATL2 and AT5G43450, and complementation constructs for atl2 and at5g43450 were generated as well. ATL2 was found to be involved in regulation of JA biosynthesis and lignin deposition in response to cellulose biosynthesis inhibition. Global gene expression pattern analysis using promoter-reporter constructs showed that ATL2 is expressed in most of the plant tissues in seedlings and adult plants. AT5G43450 was suggested to be involved in inhibition of cell elongation upon isoxaben addition. at5g43450 seedlings exhibited reduced sensitivity to inhibition of cell elongation caused by isoxaben. In accordance with this observation, at5g43450 lines expressing the full-length genomic AT5G43450 exhibited wild-type levels of cell elongation inhibition. AT5G43450 was found to localize to the nucleus and cytosol, as determined by using an AT5G43450::CITRINE translational fusion protein under the control of the constitutive promoter 35S. Furthermore, by using a cell cycle marker line containing a CYCB1;1::GUS reporter, isoxaben was shown to inhibit cell cycle progression 6 h after the start of the treatment. Interestingly, providing osmotic support suppressed the isoxaben effect, as CYCB1;1::GUS activity levels were not changed under these conditions. Similarly, the addition of MeJA counteracted the isoxaben-induced cell cycle inhibition as well. Moreover, ATL2 and AT5G43450 were found to be involved in cell cycle regulation since atl2 and at5g43450 containing the same reporter construct exhibited stronger activity levels of CYCB1;1::GUS compared to the control. In particular, ATL2 was found to be involved in the MeJA modulation of cell cycle progression since CYCB1;1::GUS activity levels substantially increased in atl2 after addition of MeJA. Together, these results show that ATL2 and AT5G43450 are involved in the isoxaben-induced CWD response and are negative regulators of cell cycle progression

A tutela dos direitos fundamentais na pós-modernidade e os fenômenos neoconstitucionalismo e pós-positivismo

As grandes transformações observadas na sociedade atual, principalmente no que se refere à defesa dos direitos e garantias fundamentais previstos no texto constitucional do Estado Democrático de Direito, exigem que o fenômeno jurídico seja encarado sob uma nova visão. Em atenção a essa exigência, surgem teorias que visam a estabelecer este novo olhar e que, para atingirem tal fi m, preocupam-se com os problemas da indeterminação do Direito e com as relações havidas entre o Direito, a moral e a política. Essas teorias, chamadas de pós-positivistas, criam um cenário de busca pela reconstrução dos direitos fundamentais e por sua efetiva positivação, utilizando-se de fundamentos dos princípios constitucionais, parâmetros deste novo momento constitucional, que fi cou conhecido como neoconstitucionalismo. Para melhor acompanhamento destas mudanças na ordem jurídica, é imprescindível que se tenha conhecimento sobre a tutela dos direitos fundamentais no mundo pós-moderno e os fenômenos que surgiram neste contexto

A prática de enfermagem especializada em saúde mental e psiquiatria

O presente relatório pretende evidenciar a integração de saberes e competências desenvolvidas nos dois locais de ensino clínico onde desenvolvi a minha prática especializada em saúde mental e psiquiatria. Os contextos de ensino clínico apresentaram-se como uma oportunidade fundamental de crescimento pessoal e profissional, implicando a mobilização de várias competências, revestindo-se de um elevado potencial formativo nesta área. O ensino clínico no serviço de ambulatório de psiquiatria do Centro Hospitalar Médio Tejo (CHMT) permitiu-me a aquisição de conhecimentos e competências específicas para a intervenção na doença mental grave. E o ensino clínico desenvolvido no hospital de dia de oncologia do CHMT, devido à multiplicidade de situações encontradas mobilizou conhecimentos e saberes mais amplos e diversificados na área da promoção da saúde mental. Foi especialmente importante porque potenciou oportunidades de crescimento pessoal únicas, motivando reflexões e debates, permitindo alcançar um conhecimento pessoal elevado Foi desenvolvido um estudo de investigação com o objetivo de avaliar o impacto dos grupos de encontro na promoção da saúde mental dos familiares de pessoas com doença oncológica. As sessões desenvolvidas visavam a capacitação de estratégias de coping com o intuito de diminuir a ansiedade, a depressão e o stress e promover a saúde mental dos familiares de pessoas com doença oncológica. Da intervenção composta por quatro sessões, participaram quatro familiares do sexo feminino, que foram avaliadas, antes das sessões e após as sessões, utilizando a Escala de Depressão, Ansiedade e Stress (EADS – 21) e o Inventário de Saúde Mental (MHI – 5). Concluiu-se que após as sessões houve uma melhoria significativa para os elementos do grupo, adquirindo estratégias de coping que levaram à diminuição da depressão, da ansiedade e do stress, havendo o aumento da saúde mental de todos os participantes

Procedural Content Generation for Location-based Games

Os jogos baseados na localização possibilitam o desenvolvimento de narrativas e experiências emlocais específicos. Como tal, estão muitas vezes limitados pela área geográfica para a qual foramdesenvolvidos. Através de técnicas de geração procedimental de conteúdos é possível adaptar asmecânicas de jogo definidas a outros locais.O principal objectivo desta dissertação é criar uma ferramenta que permita a geração de ummodelo da localização actual do utilizador, através da utilização de informação geográfica. Ainformação sobre a localização é integrada em agentes, sendo utilizadas técnicas de Geração Pro-cedimental de Conteúdos para gerar os componentes. A usabilidade e um possível impacto do usoda aplicação em turismo serão estudados.Location-based games are games where the physical position of the player has influence on thegameplay. Most of these games are currently developed with a specific location in mind, so asto provide the user with a more immersive experience. Thus, procedural content generation haspotential to be of great value to this type of games, as they can be extended to arbitrary locationsin a less labor-intensive fashion.The main goal of this dissertation is to create a tool that is able to generate a model of thecurrent location based on geographical data. Non-player characters containing knowledge of thelocation are used to interact with the player. Procedural Content Generation techniques will beused to generate the components, and a possible impact of the use of this tool for tourism purposeswill be studied

Bullying na Adolescência: Avaliação Psicológica com Métodos Projetivos (Escola de Paris)

This work aims to assess the psychological impact of school bullying on adolescents. This study is about an exploratory clinical-qualitative research with multiple case studies of four teenagers, who had been victimized by bullying acts aged between 15 and 17 years old. This study applied the following instruments: Semi-structured interview; SCL-90-R scale; Rorschach Method and Thematic Apperception Test (Parisian School). The results show depression, anxiety, non-suicidal self-injury and suicidal attempts. On the SCL-90-R Scale, five out of nine psychopathological factors stood out in two cases. On Rorschach, the coercion and extroversion predominate as a Type of Intimate Resonance. Thematic Apperception Test results points lability and rigidity. The presence of bullying points to an own psychological dynamic in each case.Analisa-se o impacto psicológico do bullying escolar em adolescentes. Trata-se de pesquisa exploratória clínico-qualitativo com estudo de casos múltiplos de quatro adolescentes que sofreram bullying, com idade entre 15 e 17 anos. Utiliza-se como instrumentos: Entrevista Semiestruturada; Escala SCL-90-R; Método de Rorschach e Teste de Apercepção Temática (Escola de Paris). Resultados mostraram sinais de depressão, ansiedade, comportamentos autolesivos e tentativas de suicídio. Na Escala SCL-90-R sobressaíram em dois casos, cinco dos nove fatores psicopatológicos. No Rorschach predomina Tipo de Ressonância Íntima coartado e extroversivo, com reatividade afetiva e capacidade de relacionamentos interpessoais afetadas em alguns casos. No Teste de Apercepção Temática destacam-se procedimentos que indicam labilidade e rigidez. A presença do bullying aponta para dinamismo psíquico próprio em cada caso
