How are the forest machine drivers at Holmen Skog affected by shift work?

Holmen Skog är ett av Sveriges största skogsbolag och har sitt verksamhetsområde från Västerbotten ner till östra Småland. De upplever att de har problem med att rekrytera och locka nya skogsmaskinförare till branschen. Uppgiften blev då att undersöka om detta kunde bero på skiftarbete. Detta gjordes i form av en enkät där frågorna riktades mot upplevelsen av skiftarbete och psykosocial arbetsmiljö. Enkäten skickades ut 2019 under två veckor i mars månad till 54 maskinförare varav 37 valde att svara (68,5 procent). Resultatet har arbetats fram under veckorna i april 2019 och visade på en stor spridning i svaren på flera av frågorna. De flesta maskinförarna (89 %) uppger att de har någon typ av negativ biverkning till följd av skiftarbete och många har problem med trötthet (40 %). Slutsatsen av undersökningen är att maskinförarna upplever det som svårt att kunna kombinera skiftarbete med andra saker såsom fritidsaktiviteter och familj. Många upplever även att det är dåligt betalt och att de har för långa resesträckor till och från jobbet. Most machine operators (89%) state that they have some type of negative side effect due to shift work and many have problems with fatigue (40%). The conclusion of the survey is that the machine operators find it difficult to combine shift work with other things such as leisure activities and family. Many also find that it is poorly paid and that they have too long travel distances to and from work. One shift could be a solution to some of the problems
