    CAD-CAM system in dental implants: a systematic review

    Introduction: In the scenario of dental implant procedures, the intraoral scanner and milling unit are used to manufacture a computer-aided design and a computer-aided surgical and radiographic guide. In this sense, the use of CAD-CAM systems is highlighted in the processes of a prosthesis and dental implants, promoting the fabrication of prostheses based on a state-of-the-art three-dimensional system. Objective: Conduct a systematic review of the main considerations of the CAD-CAM system for the development of prostheses and dental implants. Methods: The present study was followed by a systematic literature review model - PRISMA rules. The quality of the studies was based on the GRADE instrument. The risk of bias was analyzed according to the Cochrane instrument. Results and Conclusion: The use of digital tools for the automated fabrication of implant parts (CAD-CAM) is an optimizing reality in Dentistry. CAD-CAM enables high-quality, standardized, accurate, and detail-perfect prosthetic restorations. The use of metallic implants in the morse cone system in association with zirconia abutments guarantees a final product with mechanical resistance, biocompatibility, and esthetics

    Measurements and modelling of radio propagation in subway tunnels

    The work presented in this article is focused on the RF measurement campaign carried out in several subway tunnels in Metro Madrid (Spain). Most common segments such as straight lines, curves and passing through station as well as other unique scenarios in metropolitan lines were the selected locations during this campaign. Measurements were conducted in tunnels of diverse cross section shapes and taken at three frequency bands: 900 MHz, 2.4GHz and 5.7 GHz for both horizontal and vertical polarization

    La investigación tuvo como objetivo comprobar los efectos de un plan de coaching con programación neurolingüística (PNL) para el logro de competencias académicas en el estudiantado universitario. La investigación es explicativa con diseño cuasiexperimental, conteniendo dos grupos: en uno se ejecuta el procedimiento experimental y en el otro no, ya que es de control. Se trabaja con una muestra de 110 estudiantes de la asignatura Matemática 2.0 de la Carrera de Administración de la Universidad Continental, que conformaron el grupo experimental y control del estudio. Se observaron significativas diferencias entre las medias obtenidas en ambos grupos, luego de la aplicación del tratamiento con el plan de coaching esbozado, la mayor discrepancia se alcanzó en las competencias cognoscitivas con 1,88 puntos y las interpersonales con 1,44, mientras que las comunicacionales son las que obtuvieron la menor diferencia (0,82). Se concluye que, el plan de coaching con PNL implementado mejora significativa el logro de las competencias académicas en el estudiantado.Campus Lima Centr

    International audienceThis is the first study where graphene is used as a MALDI adjuvant in combination with the traditional matrix α-cyano-4-hydroxycinnamic acid (CHCA) to improve the signal intensity of peptide samples. Use of this amended matrix not only leads to increased signals but also to a higher number of peaks detected in complex samples. Additionally, the use of graphene has a stabilizing effect that can also be exploited to improve the detection of easily cleavable molecules

    Smartphone sensors for monitoring cancer-related Quality of Life: App design, EORTC QLQ-C30 mapping and feasibility study in healthy subjects

    [EN] Quality of life (QoL) indicators are now being adopted as clinical outcomes in clinical trials on cancer treatments. Technology-free daily monitoring of patients is complicated, time-consuming and expensive due to the need for vast amounts of resources and personnel. The alternative method of using the patients¿ own phones could reduce the burden of continuous monitoring of cancer patients in clinical trials. This paper proposes monitoring the patients¿ QoL by gathering data from their own phones. We considered that the continuous multiparametric acquisition of movement, location, phone calls, conversations and data use could be employed to simultaneously monitor their physical, psychological, social and environmental aspects. An open access phone app was developed (Human Dynamics Reporting Service (HDRS)) to implement this approach. We here propose a novel mapping between the standardized QoL items for these patients, the European Organization for the Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-C30) and define HDRS monitoring indicators. It affects one in 4000 live newborns, and among the clinical manifestations that can occur in this syndrome are abnormalities in the parathyroid glands (producing calcium deficits), the palate, the heart and the thymus. It is also known as DiGeorge syndrome or velocardiofacial syndrome, among other names, depending on the clinical presentation of each individual. The main objective of the review was to update information on DS 22q11.2 from publications in the scientific literature. The daily activities of these patients are seriously impaired, due to the impact of the clinical manifestations. Interventions can be performed to improve their social, cognitive and emotional skills, thus increasing their ability to perform different daily activities

    The worldwide increase in temperature has resulted in a marked increase in heat waves (heat extremes) that carries a markedly increased risk for morbidity and mortality. The kidney has a unique role not only in protecting the host from heat and dehydration but also is an important site of heat-associated disease. Here we review the potential impact of global warming and heat extremes on kidney diseases. High temperatures can result in increased core temperatures, dehydration, and blood hyperosmolality. Heatstroke (both clinical and subclinical whole-body hyperthermia) may have a major role in causing both acute kidney disease, leading to increased risk of acute kidney injury from rhabdomyolysis, or heat-induced inflammatory injury to the kidney. Recurrent heat and dehydration can result in chronic kidney disease (CKD) in animals and theoretically plays a role in epidemics of CKD developing in hot regions of the world where workers are exposed to extreme heat. Heat stress and dehydration also has a role in kidney stone formation, and poor hydration habits may increase the risk for recurrent urinary tract infections. The resultant social and economic consequences include disability and loss of productivity and employment. Given the rise in world temperatures, there is a major need to better understand how heat stress can induce kidney disease, how best to provide adequate hydration, and ways to reduce the negative effects of chronic heat exposure.Published versio

    Tumor carcinoide del apéndice cecal. Presentación de caso

    Fundamento: Los tumores carcinoides apendiculares son infrecuentes, aparecen principalmente en el sexo femenino entre la tercera y cuarta década de la vida; generalmente su diagnóstico es un hallazgo incidental anatomopatológico en el curso de una apendicitis aguda. Objetivo: Describir el caso de una paciente con un tumor carcinoide del apéndice cecal. Presentación de caso: Paciente femenina de 41 años, con dolor abdominal en fosa ilíaca derecha de un día de evolución, acompañado de náuseas; al examen físico presentaba dolor a la descompresión en esa región, el resto del abdomen sin signos de peritonismo. Mediante la tomografía computarizada contrastada de abdomen se constató una apendicitis aguda, se le realizó apendicectomía laparoscópica de urgencia. Después del análisis anatomopatológico e inmunohistoquímico de la pieza quirúrgica extraída se evidenció la existencia de un tumor carcinoide bien diferenciado del apéndice cecal. Conclusiones: La paciente evolucionó favorablemente sin complicaciones posoperatorias, no fue necesario realizar otros manejos quirúrgicos aparte de la apendicectomía simple. DeCS: TUMOR CARCINOIDE. ABSTRACT Background: Appendicular carcinoid tumors are uncommon, occurring mainly in the female sex between the third and fourth decade of life; usually its diagnosis is an incidental anatomopathological finding in the course of an acute appendicitis. Objective: To describe the case of a patient with a carcinoid tumor of the cecal appendix. Case presentation: A 41-year-old female patient with abdominal pain in the right iliac fossa with day of evolution, accompanied by nausea; at the physical examination she presented pain at  the decompression in that region, the rest of the abdomen without signs of peritonism. An acute appendicitis was confirmed by abdominal computed tomography (CT), and emergency laparoscopic appendectomy was performed. After the anatomopathological and immunohistochemical analysis of the extracted surgical specimen, there was evidence of a well differentiated carcinoid tumor of the cecal appendix. Conclusions: The patient progressed favorably without postoperative complications, it was not necessary to perform other surgical procedures other than simple appendectomy. MeSH: CARCINOID TUMOR.     Related Factors of Anemia in Critically Ill Patients: A Prospective Multicenter Study

Several causes may explain this phenomenon as well as the tendency to transfuse patients without adequate cause: due to a lack of adherence to protocols, lack of supervision, incomplete transfusion request forms, or a lack of knowledge about the indications, risks, and costs of transfusions. Daily sampling to monitor the coagulation parameters and the acid–base balance can aggravate anemia as the main iatrogenic factor in its production. We studied the association and importance of iatrogenic blood loss and other factors in the incidence of anemia in ICUs. We performed a prospective, observational, multicenter study in five Spanish hospitals. A total of 142 patients with a median age of 58 years (IQI: 48–69), 71.83% male and 28.17% female, were admitted to ICUs without a diagnosis of iatrogenic anemia. During their ICU stay, anemia appeared in 66.90% of the sample, 95 patients, (95% CI: 58.51–74.56%). Risk factors associated with the occurrence of iatrogenic anemia were arterial catheter insertion (72.63% vs. 46.81%, p-value = 0.003), venous catheter insertion (87.37% vs. 72.34%, p-value = 0.023), drainages (33.68% vs. 12. 77%, p-value = 0.038), and ICU stay, where the longer the stay, the higher the rate of iatrogenic anemia (p-value < 0.001). We concluded that there was a statistical significance in the production of iatrogenic anemia due to the daily sampling for laboratory monitoring and critical procedures in intensive care units.     Relevamiento y estudio de aspectos relacionados con el conjunto hídrico, ecológico y paisajístico asociado con la Laguna de Mar Chiquita, y una propuesta de Plan Director integrado que permita lograr un funcionamiento sustentable del sistema. Abarcará la recopilación de antecedentes sobre variaciones en los regímenes hidrológicos de la laguna y sus tributarios, junto con las variaciones en calidad de agua y sus consecuencias sobre el ecosistema dependiente. Se utilizará la información disponible en bases de datos de organismos públicos, y a partir de trabajos anteriores del grupo de investigadores involucrados, sobre caudales, calidad de agua, recursos en flora, fauna, paisaje, y sus variaciones en función de los cambios hidrológicos, climáticos, o por efecto de contaminación del medio. Se realizarán también estudios exploratorios para identificar factores de riesgo y cambios evidentes o inminentes en los ecosistemas causados por mal uso o contaminación del recurso hídrico. Dichos estudios abarcarán relevamientos, monitoreos planificados y/o verificaciones in situ, con posterior análisis de los datos obtenidos, análisis de muestras de agua y sedimento en la laguna y sus tributarios, evaluación de cambios en comunidades de peces, aves, plantas, paisaje, etc
