Proyecto de Graduación (Maestría en Computación con énfasis en Ciencias de la Computación) Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica, Escuela de Ingeniería en Computación, 2021A traffic simulation is a tool that permits constructing a virtual environment based on a real one, with the objective to perform analysis about the actual conditions and more important, apply changes to the virtual scene or to the driving rules to generate new scenarios and test solutions. However, the problem we found with simulations it that with incorrect parameters may not represent the traffic conditions we are looking for. In this work, we propose a method to calibrate the traffic simulations using data available for transportation in Costa Rica. This data comes from Global Position System (GPS) navigation records. The calibration algorithm search to represent those actual traffic conditions in a virtual environment, and after that, propose and design solutions to ease the complicated traffic situations. This thesis reflects the work of months to design and implemented an algorithm to calibrate simulations of five sectors of the country where we found difficult traffic conditions. The algorithm calculates a Measure of Performance to compare data from the simulation and the GPS records, and it searches iteratively for the best parameters. In the end, it validates the best solution found with a statistical test. As results, we achieved to calibrate the simulations for the five studied sectors, reaching a configuration of input parameters that reflects the traffic conditions extracted from the GPS records, as a portrait of the real-life conditions of the locations. The impact and applications of this work are plenty. For the computing part, we can dig more profound in using more techniques of calibration, and also exploit the data available for more general works. Moreover, it can become in a significant resource for analysis and decision making in urban mobility studies

The Austrian Business Cycle Theory is founded on monetary transmission mechanisms in order to explain peaks and troughs in the business cycle. According to Austrian postulates, markets are dynamic interaction processes among economic agents, in which a general situation of coordination between consumption and production plans through time is not identifie . Asymmetric information is deemed to be the cause of such impossibility. Thus, the economic system fluctuates according to two tendencies: disequilibrium, caused by the absence of complete information, and equilibrium, based on the agent’s innate sense of generating opportunities for economic benefits. Based on these ideas, the existing relationship between real and monetary variables in the Colombian economy between 1990 and 2005 is analyzed. This is done though a graphical analysis and a through a model of co-integration

Board Games to Foster Colombian Cultural Awareness Inside the EFL Classroom ABSTRACT Along the English as a foreign language learning process inside a public school in Colombia, students are not taking into account their own culture and context when learning. That is why a way in which learners are able to be aware of their own culture through the EFL learning process is necessary. Therefore, the adaptation of a series of board games in order to make them suitable to teach English and foster Colombian cultural aspects inside the EFL classroom was required to deal with the main issue. In this study, participants were experimenting their own culture along the English class through the use of board games. Each board game was adapted to foster one specific cultural aspect. The participants were conducted through an introduction at the beginning of each session and, such introduction was about the cultural aspect to work on, after that they had the opportunity to interact and recognize their own culture by using the board game. They were recognizing the characteristics of their own culture and they were culturally aware along the development of the class, which was the main objective of the research project
