Improving the Scalability of DPWS-Based Networked Infrastructures
The Devices Profile for Web Services (DPWS) specification enables seamless
discovery, configuration, and interoperability of networked devices in various
settings, ranging from home automation and multimedia to manufacturing
equipment and data centers. Unfortunately, the sheer simplicity of event
notification mechanisms that makes it fit for resource-constrained devices,
makes it hard to scale to large infrastructures with more stringent
dependability requirements, ironically, where self-configuration would be most
useful. In this report, we address this challenge with a proposal to integrate
gossip-based dissemination in DPWS, thus maintaining compatibility with
original assumptions of the specification, and avoiding a centralized
configuration server or custom black-box middleware components. In detail, we
show how our approach provides an evolutionary and non-intrusive solution to
the scalability limitations of DPWS and experimentally evaluate it with an
implementation based on the the Web Services for Devices (WS4D) Java Multi

Design and manufacturing of master alloys for sintering activation in high performance structural parts
Nowadays, the development of high performance structural parts, is limited by the fact that the alloying systems are being modifying by requirements associated to envorimental guideline as well as to the increase in the price of raw materials. The use of masteralloys allows to activate the mass transport processes during sintering with a minimum modification of final composition (low cost) acting on densification, and hence, on final properties.
The research group of “Powder Technology” from Carlos III University, has a wide experience and qualification on the design of new alloying systems and in manufacturing the powders by atomization and mechanical alloying techniques.

Exchange rate dynamics in crawling-band systems
In this note we show that an exchange rate crawling-band system can borrow a portion of those aspects of a target zone that lead to its stabilizing effects on the exchange rate, depending on the relationship between the crawl rate and the drift of the fundamentals process. If the crawl rate is sufficiently high (with respect to the drift), the crawling-band is similar to a free float regime. Three-Dimensional Wave Packet Approach for the Quantum Transport of Atoms through Nanoporous Membranes
Quantum phenomena are relevant to the transport of light atoms and molecules
through nanoporous two-dimensional (2D) membranes. Indeed, confinement provided
by (sub-)nanometer pores enhances quantum effects such as tunneling and zero
point energy (ZPE), even leading to quantum sieving of different isotopes of a
given element. However, these features are not always taken into account in
approaches where classical theories or approximate quantum models are
preferred. In this work we present an exact three-dimensional wave packet
propagation treatment for simulating the passage of atoms through periodic 2D
membranes. Calculations are reported for the transmission of He and He
through graphdiyne as well as through a holey graphene model. For
He-graphdiyne, estimations based on tunneling-corrected transition state theory
are correct: both tunneling and ZPE effects are very important but competition
between each other leads to a moderately small He/He selectivity. Thus,
formulations that neglect one or another quantum effect are inappropriate. For
the transport of He isotopes through leaky graphene, the computed transmission
probabilities are highly structured suggesting widespread selective adsorption
resonances and the resulting rate coefficients and selectivity ratios are not
in agreement with predictions from transition state theory. Present approach
serves as a benchmark for studies of the range of validity of more approximate
