Robustness of SOC Estimation Algorithms for EV Lithium-Ion Batteries against Modeling Errors and Measurement Noise

    Get PDF
State of charge (SOC) is one of the most important parameters in battery management system (BMS). There are numerous algorithms for SOC estimation, mostly of model-based observer/filter types such as Kalman filters, closed-loop observers, and robust observers. Modeling errors and measurement noises have critical impact on accuracy of SOC estimation in these algorithms. This paper is a comparative study of robustness of SOC estimation algorithms against modeling errors and measurement noises. By using a typical battery platform for vehicle applications with sensor noise and battery aging characterization, three popular and representative SOC estimation methods (extended Kalman filter, PI-controlled observer, and H∞ observer) are compared on such robustness. The simulation and experimental results demonstrate that deterioration of SOC estimation accuracy under modeling errors resulted from aging and larger measurement noise, which is quantitatively characterized. The findings of this paper provide useful information on the following aspects: (1) how SOC estimation accuracy depends on modeling reliability and voltage measurement accuracy; (2) pros and cons of typical SOC estimators in their robustness and reliability; (3) guidelines for requirements on battery system identification and sensor selections

Purpose: To investigate the effect of WT1(Wilms tumor-suppressor gene) overexpression on premature ovarian failure (POF)-mediated ovarian dysfunction. Methods: Three mice groups were used: control group (untreated mice), POF group (mice sterilized by intravenous injection of cyclophosphamide and busulfan), and POF-LV(lentiviral vector)GFP(green fluorescent protein)WT1 group (POF mice given intra-ovarian microinjection of LVGFPWT1, a WT1overexpressing lentiviral vector, one week after sterilization). Real time-PCR was employed to analyze in vitro WT1 overexpression levels. Overall ovarian function was measured by hormonal assay, H & E staining, and immuno-histochemical techniques. Results: Overexpression of WT1 in mice models of POF alleviated ovarian granulosa cell (GC) damage, increased ovary weight, and significantly increased follicular number (p < 0.05). Radioimmunoassays revealed reduction in plasma estradiol (E2) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH, p < 0.05). However, results from immune-histochemical assays showed reduced Bax expression levels, and increased expression of Bcl-2 in WTI-overexpression mice, relative to POF mice. Conclusion: Overexpression of WT1 may stimulate repair of ovarian tissue while improving endocrine function by inhibiting ovarian cell apoptosis signaling pathway in POF mice. Keywords: Premature ovarian failure, Wilms tumor suppressor gene, Chemotherapy, Apoptosis, Estradio

Knee-point-conscious battery aging trajectory prediction of lithium-ion based on physics-guided machine learning

Early prediction of aging trajectories of lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries is critical for cycle life testing, quality control, and battery health management. Although data-driven machine learning (ML) approaches are well suited for this task, unfortunately, relying solely on data is exceedingly time-consuming and resource-intensive, even in accelerated aging with complex aging mechanisms. This challenge is rooted in the highly complex and time-varying degradation mechanisms of Li-ion battery cells. We propose a novel method based on physics-guided machine learning (PGML) to overcome this issue. First, electrode-level physical information is incorporated into the model training process to predict the aging trajectory’s knee point (KP). The relationship between the identified KP and the accelerated aging behavior is then explored, and an aging trajectory prediction algorithm is developed. The prior knowledge of aging mechanisms enables a transfer of valuable physical insights to yield accurate KP predictions with small data and weak correlation feature relationship. Based on a Li[NiCoMn]O\ua02\ua0cell dataset, we demonstrate that only 14 cells are needed to train a PGML model for achieving a lifetime prediction error of 2.02% using the data of the first 50 cycles. In contrast, at least 100 cells are needed to reach this level of accuracy without the physical insights

Received: 2014.07.10; Accepted: 2015.01.05; Published: 2015.01.21 Targeting tumors using miniature antibodies is a novel and attractive therapeutic approach, as these biomolecules exhibit low immunogenicity, rapid clearance, and high targeting specificity. However, most of the small-sized antibodies in existence do not exhibit marked anti-tumor ef-fects, which limit their use in targeted cancer immunotherapy. To overcome this difficulty in targeting multiple biomarkers by combination therapies, we designed a new bifunctional antibody, named MaAbNA (multivalent antibody comprised of nanobody and affibody moieties), capable of targeting EGFR1 and HER2, which are widely overexpressed in a variety of tumor types. The small-sized (29 kDa) MaAbNA, which was expressed in E.coli, consists of one anti-EGFR1 nano-body and two anti-HER2 affibodies, and possesses high affinity (KD) for EGFR1 (~4.1 nM) and HER2 (~4.7 nM). In order to enhance its anti-tumor activity, MaAbNA was conjugated with adriamycin (ADM) using a PEG2000 linker, forming a new complex anticancer drug, MaAbNA-PEG2000-ADM. MaAbNA exhibited high inhibitory effects on tumor cell

An approach using cobalt metal-organic frameworks (Co-MOF) as precursors is established for the fabrication of cobalt nanoparticles in porous carbon shells (core/shell Co@C). Chemical vapor deposition of ethyne is used for controlling the reduction of cobalt nanoclusters in the MOF and the spontaneous formation of the porous carbon shells. The metallic cobalt cores formed are up to 4 - 6 nm with the crystal phase varying between hexagonally-close-packed (hcp) and face-centre-packed (fcc). The porous carbon shells change from amorphous to graphene with the ethyne deposition temperature increasing from 400 to 600 oC. The core/shell Co@C nanoparticles exhibit high catalytic activity in selectively converting syngas (CTY: 254.1 - 312.1 μmolCO·gCo-1·s-1) into hydrocarbons (4.0 - 5.2 gHC·g-cat-1·h-1) at 260 oC. As well as the crystal size and phase, the coordination numbers of the cobalt to oxygen and to other cobalt atoms on the surface of the cobalt nanoparticles, and the permeability of the porous carbon shell have been related to the catalytic performance in FTS reactions

PurposeThis study aimed to explore the clinical characteristics of male breast cancer (MBC) patients and the factors influencing their prognosis.MethodsWe conducted a retrospective case series analysis of 117 MBC cases who were treated at Zhejiang Cancer Hospital from 2009 to 2022. Cox proportional hazard model was used to identify prognostic factors of MBC. Nomogram was constructed based on these factors, which was further evaluated by C-index and calibration curves.ResultsA total of 115 MBC cases were finally included in our analyses, with median diagnosis age of 59 years. Of these cases, 80.0% were estrogen receptor (ER) positive, 79.2% were progesterone receptor (PR) positive, 48.7% were human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) negative, and 42.6% had Ki67 levels higher than 15%. 108 (93.9%) cases underwent radical mastectomy, while only 3 (2.6%) received breast-conserving surgery. The Logrank test suggested that lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) was negatively associated with both overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) of MBC, while platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) were only positively associated with OS (all P-values < 0.05). Multivariate regression analysis showed that age (HR 1.08, 95% CI 1.03-1.13) was significant prognostic factors for OS. Meanwhile, age (HR 1.06, 95% CI 1.02-1.10), histological differentiation grade (poorly differentiated/undifferentiated vs. well-differentiated: HR 2.55, 95% CI 1.05-6.17), and TNM stage (IV vs. I: HR 31.59, 95% CI 6.01-165.93) were also significant prognostic factors for DFS. Nomograms were developed for DFS, with C-indexes of 0.782, indicating good predictive performance.ConclusionIncreased age, bigger tumor size, higher TNM stage, and lower histological differentiation grade were associated with poor MBC prognosis, and LMR, PLR, and NLR might be potential predictors for MBC prognosis

ObjectiveTo investigate the distribution of bone density in the subchondral bone tissue of the knee joint due to the mechanical stress load generated by judo, the bone tissue volume of different densities and the bone remodeling characteristics of the subchondral bone of the knee joint.MethodsCT imaging data of the knee joint were collected from 15 healthy individuals as controls and 15 elite judo athletes. Firstly, they were processed by the CTOAM technique, and secondly, the distribution pattern of high-density areas of the knee joint was localized using nine anatomical regions. In addition, three tomographic images were selected in the sagittal, coronal, and axial 2D image windows to observe the distribution of different densities of bone tissue. Finally, the percentage of bone tissue volume (%BTV) and bone remodeling trend of bone tissues with different densities were determined.ResultsIn this study, high-density areas were found in the 4th, 5th, and 6th regions of the articular surface of the distal femur and the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th regions of the tibial plateau in judo athletes; the distribution of high-density areas on the articular surface of the distal femur in control subjects was similar with judo athletes, and high-density areas were mainly found in the 4th and 5th regions of the tibial plateau. The %BTV of low (401-500HU in the distal femur; 301-400 HU and 401-500HU in the tibial plateau), moderate, and high bone density was higher in judo athletes than in controls in the subchondral bone of the distal femur and tibial plateau (P< 0.05).ConclusionThe history of compressive stresses, struck stresses, soft tissue tension and pull, self-gravity and intra-articular stress loading generated by the lower limb exercise technique of judo leads to specific forms of stress distribution and bone tissue remodeling in the subchondral bone tissue within the distal femur and tibia plateau

Purpose: The neural bases in acute tinnitus remains largely undetected. The objective of this study was to identify the alteration of the brain network involved in patients with acute tinnitus and hearing loss. Methods: Acute tinnitus patients (n = 24) with hearing loss and age-, sex-, education-matched healthy controls (n = 21) participated in the current study and underwent resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scanning. Regional homogeneity and amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation were used to investigate the local spontaneous neural activity and functional connectivity (FC), and Granger causality analysis (GCA) was used to analyze the undirected and directed connectivity of brain regions. Results: Compared with healthy subjects, acute tinnitus patients had a general reduction in FC between auditory and non-auditory brain regions. Based on FC analysis, the superior temporal gyrus (STG) revealed reduced undirected connectivity with non-auditory brain regions including the amygdala (AMYG), nucleus accumbens (NAc), the cerebellum, and postcentral gyrus (PoCG). Using the GCA algorithm, increased effective connectivity from the right AMYG to the right STG, and reduced connectivity from the right PoCG to the left NAc was observed in acute tinnitus patients with hearing loss. The pure-tone threshold was positively correlated with FC between the AMYG and STG, and negatively correlated with FC between the left NAc and the right PoCG. In addition, a negative association between the GCA value from the right PoCG to the left NAc and the THI scores was observed. Conclusion: Acute tinnitus patients have aberrant FC strength and causal connectivity in both the auditory and non-auditory cortex, especially in the STG, AMYG, and NAc. The current findings will provide a new perspective for understanding the neuropathophysiological mechanism in acute tinnitus
