This paper reviews literature on tactual perception. Throughout this review we will highlight some of the most relevant variables in touch literature: interaction between touch and other senses; type of stimuli, from abstract stimuli such as vibrations, to two- and three-dimensional stimuli, also considering concrete stimuli such as the relation between familiar and unfamiliar stimuli or the haptic perception of faces; type of participants, separating studies with blind participants, studies with children and adults, and an analysis of sex differences in performance; and finally, type of tactile exploration, considering conditions of active and passive touch, the relevance of movement in touch and the relation between exploration and time. This review intends to present an organised overview of the main variables in touch experiments, attending to the main findings described in literature, to guide the design of future works on tactual perception and memory. This work was funded by the Portuguese “Foundation for Science and Technology” through PhD scholarship SFRH/BD/35918/2007

Estudos morfológicos e ultraestruturais realizados confirmaram a identidade genética.Three new sequences of Mitochondrial cytochrome c-oxidase subunit 2 (mtDNA cox-2) from C. pelagicum parasite of Spheniscus magellanicus, the Magelanicus penguin, were determined from Brazilian waters. The sequences presented 99 and 98% of similarity with C. pelagicum sequences from Argentina, deposited on GenBank for the same genetic region and with a strong statistical support inferred from the phylogenetic tree. The morphological and ultrastructural studies that were carried out confirmed the genetic analysis

This study reports elderly caregivers' perception in charge of giving assistance to three benefiting institutions in elderly care, in the city of Araçatuba, São Paulo, Brazil. Questions were approached regarding aging, caregivers' personal motivation in the search of working with this sector of population, relationship with elderly, most common difficulties found during work and caregivers' satisfaction. An interview was done with caregivers and the collected verbal material was analyzed through the Collective Subject Discursive Technique. It was possible to realize through the reports the emotional involvement of caregivers with their work as well as the emotional and physical overload which they are exposed to. Reports related to aging could also be collected as well as social questions which motivated caregivers to search for this kind of job. The several eyes of caregivers lead us to search for new strategies of theoretical capability and psychological support for this group, thinking of their well-being along with the elderly well-being
