Smart load cells: an industrial application

    Get PDF
This paper presents a data acquisition solution using a RISC type microcontroller with a very few components around, taking advantage of the ratiometric functioning of the load cells. The need of thermally stable circuits is minimized through the use of the same amplification chain for both signal and reference. The amplification and filtering are done trough switched-capacitor techniques controlled by the microcontroller. This option allows the choice of the proper scale according to the platform and permits the auto-calibration of the system. The weighing tests show errors below 100 gr in 400 kg for an industrial platform of 8 smart load cells. The paper also describes an example of software calibration of a multi-load cell weigh-bridge using one processor per smart load cell

Os determinantes da estrutura de capital de empresas do PSI-20

    Get PDF
In this paper, the intention is to analyse the capital structure features of the companies operating in the Portuguese Capital Market (PSI-20). A panel analysis allows the studying of relationships between debt level and those factors which financial literature considers as determining for capital structure: size, tangibility, growth opportunities, operational risk, non-debt tax shields, profit, dividend payout, and stock price performance. This empirical study purports to describe the effects of these variables on the companies' debt level.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    IVY 2-A model-based analysis tool

    Get PDF
The IVY workbench is a model-based tool that supports the formal verification of interactive computing systems. It adopts a plugin-based architecture to support a flexible development model. Over the years the chosen architectural solution revealed a number of limitations, resulting both from technological deprecation of some of the adopted solutions and a better understanding of the verification process to support. This paper presents the redesign and implementation of the original plugin infrastructure, originating a new version of the tool: IVY 2. It describes the limitations of the original solutions and the new architecture, which resorts to the Java module system in order to solve them. This work is financed by National Funds through the Portuguese funding agency, FCT - Fundacao para a Ciencia e a Tecnologia (Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology) within project: UID/EEA/50014/2019

The Symmetry Concept in the Perspective of Basic Education Teachers

    Get PDF
The curricular changes that have occurred with the Portuguese Mathematics programme of study of 2007 showed, among other situations, the introduction of new contents and the new concept of symmetry. For the teachers, these changes require scientific updates to be provided so that the outcomes of the mathematics teaching can be guaranteed. In the academic year 2011/2012 a questionnaire was applied to a 142 inservice basic education teachers of a particular region of Portugal, to analyze the content knowledge in this subject (symmetry) and the form of scientific update occurred. The processing of data allowed us to identify inadequate conceptions, beliefs, topics more or less successful in responses and also compare the teacher’s responses of the different teaching groups.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

High assurance on cyber-physical interactive systems

    Get PDF
Cyber-Physical Systems, as distributed systems of computational elements interacting with the physical world, are highly complex systems. They can, in many instances, be considered safety critical interactive systems, as errors in interaction can have disastrous consequences (consider the case of autonomous vehicles or integrated clinical environments). High assurance is, then, an underlying requirement, also at their user interface. In this position paper we identify five challenges to be solved both in the short and in the long term, regarding the modelling of (1) distributed and (2) heterogeneous interactive systems, (3) the analysis and relation between the different abstraction layers of Cyber-Physical Systems, (4) the modelling of real time/hybrid systems, and (5) the modelling of the dynamic nature of such systems. Solutions for these challenges are not presented, but possible directions are discussed. This work was financed by National Funds through the Portuguese fundingagency, FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology) within project: UID/EEA/50014/201
