Critical Behavior of a Three-State Potts Model on a Voronoi Lattice

We use the single-histogram technique to study the critical behavior of the three-state Potts model on a (random) Voronoi-Delaunay lattice with size ranging from 250 to 8000 sites. We consider the effect of an exponential decay of the interactions with the distance,J(r)=J0exp(ar)J(r)=J_0\exp(-ar), with a>0a>0, and observe that this system seems to have critical exponents γ\gamma and ν\nu which are different from the respective exponents of the three-state Potts model on a regular square lattice. However, the ratio γ/ν\gamma/\nu remains essentially the same. We find numerical evidences (although not conclusive, due to the small range of system size) that the specific heat on this random system behaves as a power-law for a=0a=0 and as a logarithmic divergence for a=0.5a=0.5 and a=1.0a=1.0Comment: 3 pages, 5 figure

Controlpec 1.0: controle financeiro simplificado para a fazenda de pecuária de corte.

    Get PDF

We present the integration of the optical and electronic subsystems of a BB84-QKD fiber link. A highspeed FPGA MODEM generates the random QPSK sequences for a fiber-optic delayed self-homodyne scheme using APD detectors.Comment: 2 pages, 4 figures, European Conference on Optical Communication 200

    Coleman meets Schwinger

It is well known that spherical D-branes are nucleated in the presence of an external RR electric field. Using the description of D-branes as solitons of the tachyon field on non-BPS D-branes, we show that the brane nucleation process can be seen as the decay of the tachyon false vacuum. This process can describe the decay of flux-branes in string theory or the decay of quintessence potentials arising in flux compactifications.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure

Photo-ionization of planetary winds: case study HD209458b

Close-in hot Jupiters are exposed to a tremendous photon flux that ionizes the neutral escaping material from the planet leaving an observable imprint that makes them an interesting laboratory for testing theoretical models. In this work we present 3D hydrodynamic simulations with radiation transfer calculations of a close-in exoplanet in a blow-off state. We calculate the Ly-α\alpha absorption and compare it with observations of HD 209458b an previous simplified model results. Our results show that the hydrodynamic interaction together with a proper calculation of the photoionization proccess are able to reproduce the main features of the observed Ly-α\alpha absorption, in particular at the blue-shifted wings of the line. We found that the ionizing stellar flux produce an almost linear effect on the amount of absorption in the wake. Varying the planetary mass loss rate and the radiation flux, we were able to reproduce the 10%10\% absorption observed at 100 km s1-100~\mathrm{km~s^{-1}}.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figure
