The MSSM from Scherk-Schwarz Supersymmetry Breaking

    Get PDF
We present a five-dimensional model compactified on an interval where supersymmetry is broken by the Scherk-Schwarz mechanism. The gauge sector propagates in the bulk, two Higgs hypermultiplets are quasilocalized, and quark and lepton multiplets localized, in one of the boundaries. The effective four-dimensional theory is the MSSM with very heavy gauginos, heavy squarks and light sleptons and Higgsinos. The soft tree-level squared masses of the Higgs sector can be negative and they can (partially) cancel the positive one-loop contributions from the gauge sector. Electroweak symmetry breaking can then comfortably be triggered by two-loop radiative corrections from the top-stop sector. The fine tuning required to obtain the electroweak scale is found to be much smaller than in the MSSM, with essentially no fine-tuning for few TeV gaugino masses. All bounds from direct Higgs searches at LEP and from electroweak precision observables can be satisfied. The lightest supersymmetric particle is a (Higgsino-like) neutralino that can accomodate the abundance of Dark Matter consistently with recent WMAP observations.Comment: 23 pages, 3 figure

The impact of artificial intelligence on innovation management: A literature review

    Get PDF
The digital transformation and its accompanying artificial intelligence processes are becoming the essential focus of the contemporaneous digital revolution. Its real impacts, challenges, and opportunities on the industry and the business environment remain unknown. In this context, innovation has become the main driver of competitiveness. Nevertheless, innovation is no longer an isolated and residual agent but a crucial mindset that should be embedded in all workers and all activities of a company, as innovation can improve an organisation's performance and the employees' well-being and working conditions. In this context, the growth of artificial intelligence in the business world seems to be changing the way companies innovate and manage innovation processes. This paper presents a literature review study whose objective is to get insights into publications that relate innovation management and artificial intelligence. The method used in this study is based on the analysis of data obtained from the Scopus database. As a general insight, it is concluded that Al systems can free managers from more technical and exhaustive research tasks and enhance creative processes. This way, managers can focus more on creativity applied to problem-solving and the conception and development of innovation strategies. In terms of originality, this study aims to contribute and stimulate data-driven discussions regarding the possible impacts of artificial intelligence on innovation processes. This study also explores directions for future research.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

Characterization of a rare analphoid supernumerary marker chromosome in mosaic

Abstract publicado em: Chromosome Research. 2015;23(Suppl 1):67-8. doi:10.1007/s10577-015-9476-6Analphoid supernumerary marker chromosomes (SMCs) are a rare subclass of SMCs C-band-negative and devoid of alpha-satellite DNA. These marker chromosomes cannot be identified unambiguously by conventional banding techniques alone being necessary to apply molecular cytogenetic methods in favour of a detailed characterization. In this work we report an analphoid SMC involving the terminal long arm of chromosome 7, in 9 years-old boy with several dysmorphic features and severe development delay. Cytogenetic analysis revealed a mosaic karyotype with the presence of an extra SMC, de novo, in 20 % of lymphocytes and 73 % of fibroblast cells. FISH analysis with alpha-satellite probes for all chromosomes, whole chromosome painting probe for chromosome 7, and D7S427 and TelVysion 7q probes, allowed establishing the origin of the SMC as an analphoidmarker resulting of an invdup rearrangement of 7q36-qter region. Affimetrix CytoScan HD microarray analysis, redefined the SMC to arr[hg19] 7q35(143696249-159119707)×2~3, which correspond to a gain of 15.42 Mb and encloses 67 OMIM genes, 16 of which are associated to disease. This result, combined with detailed clinical description, will provide an important means for better genotype-phenotype correlation and a more suitable genetic counselling to the patient and his parents, despite the additional difficulty resulting from being a mosaic (expression varies in different tissues). Analphoid SMCs derived from chromosome 7 are very rare, with only three cases reported so far. With this case we hope contribute to a better understanding of this type of chromosome rearrangements which are difficult for genetic counselling
