School Personnel Perceptions of Professional School Counselor Role and Function

    Get PDF
The purpose of this research study was to examine the attitudes held by school-based administrators, teachers, and professional school counselors regarding ideal and actual roles of the professional school counselor. The survey instrument utilized in this research study, the PSCRFA, is grounded in the ASCA model and reflective of current school counseling ideology. This investigation determined if attitudes within and among the groups differed significantly along specific independent variables, such as age, gender, years of experience, school setting, student caseload, and educational level for school-based administrators, teachers, and professional school counselors working in an urban public school district in Hampton Roads, Virginia, as measured by the Professional School Counselor Role and Function Appraisal (PSCRFA). In addition, this study assisted in ascertaining the preferred level of engagement for professional school counselors within the school-wide counseling program. Quantitative statistical analyses were performed using SPSS ® Data Analysis System (IBM, 2012) to test for differences between and among groups of school-based administrators, teachers, and professional school counselors. Analysis of variance between ratings on degree of significance and degree of frequency revealed no statistically significant differences between administrators, teachers, and counselors along the three scales—except for significance ratings for Performance Standards. It was concluded that no significant association existed between the positions held by school personnel, their ratings on the importance of school counselor tasks, and ratings on how often tasks were performed. Overall, there was evidence of minimal agreement between participants\u27 beliefs of more significant performance standards being performed more frequently, as well as more significant counselor roles being performed more frequently. Within group differences were statistically significant for administrators and counselors with respect to degree of significance for work performed by professional school counselors. The results indicated that, overall, counselors most frequently reported higher ratings on the importance of program standards, performance standards, and counselor role. Overall scores for all three groups were lower for frequency than for importance, indicating that the school counselor\u27s level of functioning did not match the ideal performance levels preferred by school personnel

New Representations of the Perturbative S-Matrix

We propose a new framework to represent the perturbative S-matrix which is well-defined for all quantum field theories of massless particles, constructed from tree-level amplitudes and integrable term-by-term. This representation is derived from the Feynman expansion through a series of partial fraction identities, discarding terms that vanish upon integration. Loop integrands are expressed in terms of "Q-cuts" that involve both off-shell and on-shell loop-momenta, defined with a precise contour prescription that can be evaluated by ordinary methods. This framework implies recent results found in the scattering equation formalism at one-loop, and it has a natural extension to all orders---even non-planar theories without well-defined forward limits or good ultraviolet behavior.Comment: 4+1 pages, 4 figure

How a plantar pressure-based, tongue-placed tactile biofeedback modifies postural control mechanisms during quiet standing

The purpose of the present study was to determine the effects of a plantar pressure-based, tongue-placed tactile biofeedback on postural control mechanisms during quiet standing. To this aim, sixteen young healthy adults were asked to stand as immobile as possible with their eyes closed in two conditions of No-biofeedback and Biofeedback. Centre of foot pressure (CoP) displacements, recorded using a force platform, were used to compute the horizontal displacements of the vertical projection the centre of gravity (CoGh) and those of the difference between the CoP and the vertical projection of the CoG (CoP-CoGv). Altogether, the present findings suggest that the main way the plantar pressure-based, tongue-placed tactile biofeedback improves postural control during quiet standing is via both a reduction of the correction thresholds and an increased efficiency of the corrective mechanism involving the CoGh displacements

    Twistors, Harmonics and Holomorphic Chern-Simons

We show that the off-shell N=3 action of N=4 super Yang-Mills can be written as a holomorphic Chern-Simons action whose Dolbeault operator is constructed from a complex-real (CR) structure of harmonic space. We also show that the local space-time operators can be written as a Penrose transform on the coset SU(3)/(U(1) \times U(1)). We observe a strong similarity to ambitwistor space constructions.Comment: 34 pages, 3 figures, v2: replaced with published version, v3: Added referenc

An Experimental Comparison of the Effect of Teacher Versus Self‑Evaluation/Self‑Reflection Feedback on College Students’ Behavioral Observation Skills

    Get PDF
An experimental investigation of the effectiveness of two types of feedback on college students’ acquisition of behavioral observation skills was conducted. Special education and psychology students completed two training assignments involving behavioral observations of students engaging in problem behavior. Depending on the condition to which they were randomly assigned, participants experienced either teacher or self-evaluation/self-reflection feedback immediately after each assignment was completed. Participants in the teacher feedback condition scored higher on the post-training assignments and viewed it more positively than those in the self- evaluation/self-reflection condition. Additional research is needed to identify the relevant variables contributing to effective teacher feedback since it is a frequent component of instructional situations

Spinor Helicity and Dual Conformal Symmetry in Ten Dimensions

The spinor helicity formalism in four dimensions has become a very useful tool both for understanding the structure of amplitudes and also for practical numerical computation of amplitudes. Recently, there has been some discussion of an extension of this formalism to higher dimensions. We describe a particular implementation of the spinor-helicity method in ten dimensions. Using this tool, we study the tree-level S-matrix of ten dimensional super Yang-Mills theory, and prove that the theory enjoys a dual conformal symmetry. Implications for four-dimensional computations are discussed.Comment: 24 pages, 1 figure

On the Stability and the Approximation of Branching Distribution Flows, with Applications to Nonlinear Multiple Target Filtering

We analyse the exponential stability properties of a class of measure-valued equations arising in nonlinear multi-target filtering problems. We also prove the uniform convergence properties w.r.t. the time parameter of a rather general class of stochastic filtering algorithms, including sequential Monte Carlo type models and mean eld particle interpretation models. We illustrate these results in the context of the Bernoulli and the Probability Hypothesis Density filter, yielding what seems to be the first results of this kind in this subject

Active stabilization studies at the sub-nanometer level for future linear colliders

The next collider which will be able to contribute significantly to the comprehension of matter is a high energy linear collider. The luminosity of this collider will have to be of 1035cm-2s-1, which imposes a vertical beam size of 0,7nm. The relative motion between the last two focusing magnets should not exceed a third of the beam size above 4Hz. Ground motion and acoustic noise can induce vibrations that have to be compensated with active stabilisation. In this paper, we describe the three aspects needed for such a development. We have assessed sensors capable of measuring sub-nanometre displacements, performed numerical calculations using finite element models to get the dynamic response of the structure, and developed a feedback loop for the active stabilisation. Combining the expertise into a mecatronics project made it possible to obtain a displacement RMS at 5Hz of 0.13nm at the free end of our prototype
