An evaluation of the somatosensory profile of hemiparetic individuals
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the somatosensory profile of 18 hemiparetic spastic victims of stroke with and without blocking vision. Maximal isometric contraction test was used for flexor and extensor muscles of the hip and knee, and flexor plantar muscles. The number of cycles per minute on stationary bike was also measured with eyes opened and closed. Significant differences were found suggesting the existence of miscommunication between sensory-motor neural mechanisms responsible for voluntary motor actions in these individuals
Twistors and Black Holes
Motivated by black hole physics in N=2, D=4 supergravity, we study the
geometry of quaternionic-Kahler manifolds M obtained by the c-map construction
from projective special Kahler manifolds M_s. Improving on earlier treatments,
we compute the Kahler potentials on the twistor space Z and Swann space S in
the complex coordinates adapted to the Heisenberg symmetries. The results bear
a simple relation to the Hesse potential \Sigma of the special Kahler manifold
M_s, and hence to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy for BPS black holes. We
explicitly construct the ``covariant c-map'' and the ``twistor map'', which
relate real coordinates on M x CP^1 (resp. M x R^4/Z_2) to complex coordinates
on Z (resp. S). As applications, we solve for the general BPS geodesic motion
on M, and provide explicit integral formulae for the quaternionic Penrose
transform relating elements of H^1(Z,O(-k)) to massless fields on M annihilated
by first or second order differential operators. Finally, we compute the exact
radial wave function (in the supergravity approximation) for BPS black holes
with fixed electric and magnetic charges.Comment: 47 pages, v2: typos corrected, reference added, v3: minor change
Quantum Attractor Flows
Motivated by the interpretation of the Ooguri-Strominger-Vafa conjecture as a
holographic correspondence in the mini-superspace approximation, we study the
radial quantization of stationary, spherically symmetric black holes in four
dimensions. A key ingredient is the classical equivalence between the radial
evolution equation and geodesic motion of a fiducial particle on the moduli
space M^*_3 of the three-dimensional theory after reduction along the time
direction. In the case of N=2 supergravity, M^*_3 is a para-quaternionic-Kahler
manifold; in this case, we show that BPS black holes correspond to a particular
class of geodesics which lift holomorphically to the twistor space Z of M^*_3,
and identify Z as the BPS phase space. We give a natural quantization of the
BPS phase space in terms of the sheaf cohomology of Z, and compute the exact
wave function of a BPS black hole with fixed electric and magnetic charges in
this framework. We comment on the relation to the topological string amplitude,
extensions to N>2 supergravity theories, and applications to automorphic black
hole partition functions.Comment: 43 pages, 6 figures; v2: typos and references added; v3: published

Superstrings with Intrinsic Torsion
We systematically analyse the necessary and sufficient conditions for the
preservation of supersymmetry for bosonic geometries of the form R^{1,9-d}
\times M_d, in the common NS-NS sector of type II string theory and also type
I/heterotic string theory. The results are phrased in terms of the intrinsic
torsion of G-structures and provide a comprehensive classification of static
supersymmetric backgrounds in these theories. Generalised calibrations
naturally appear since the geometries always admit NS or type I/heterotic
fivebranes wrapping calibrated cycles. Some new solutions are presented. In
particular we find d=6 examples with a fibred structure which preserve N=1,2,3
supersymmetry in type II and include compact type I/heterotic geometries.Comment: 58 pages, LaTeX; v2: New section on solutions including an example
with N=3 supersymmetry and discussion of heterotic compactifications. Details

Toric G_2 and Spin(7) holonomy spaces from gravitational instantons and other examples
Non-compact G_2 holonomy metrics that arise from a T^2 bundle over a
hyper-Kahler space are discussed. These are one parameter deformations of the
metrics studied by Gibbons, Lu, Pope and Stelle in hep-th/0108191.
Seven-dimensional spaces with G_2 holonomy fibered over the Taub-Nut and the
Eguchi-Hanson gravitational instantons are found, together with other examples.
By considering the Apostolov-Salamon theorem math.DG/0303197, we construct a
new example that, still being a T^2 bundle over hyper-Kahler, represents a non
trivial two parameter deformation of the metrics studied in hep-th/0108191. We
then review the Spin(7) metrics arising from a T^3 bundle over a hyper-Kahler
and we find two parameter deformation of such spaces as well. We show that if
the hyper-Kahler base satisfies certain properties, a non trivial three
parameter deformations is also possible. The relation between these spaces with
the half-flat structures and almost G_2 holonomy spaces is briefly discussed.Comment: 27 pages. Typos corrected. Accepted for publication in

Revisiting the role of soccer spectator's behavioral intentions and its antecedents
Football is one of the most rooted sports worldwide attracting millions of spectators, but clubs face an increasing competition of other leisure activities. Understanding how to increase spectators' behavioral intentions towards their favorite football teams is paramount for sport managers, given that a behavioral intention represents a measure of how much a person is willing to engage in a specific behavior. Thus, the purposes of this study were (1) to explain the role of spectators' behavioral intentions, and (2) to highlight its antecedents within the football context. In doing so, this study starts by providing a review of consumption-related aspects that have been associated with football spectators' behavioral intentions, such as emotions experienced during the games, service quality, team brand associations and satisfaction. Subsequently, the main findings from previous studies conducted with football spectators are highlighted and managerial implications are suggested in order to aid football clubs at providing good overall consumption experiences to their spectators, and thus contributing to increase attendance levels. Finally, future research avenues are suggested in order to expand our understanding on how to strengthen the link between football spectators and their teams, with subsequent associated benefits.Publisher Statement: Open-Access License: This is an open access article licensed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-Non-Commercial 4.0 International Public License (CC BY-NC 4.0) (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/legalcode), which permits unrestricted, non-commercial use, distribution and reproduction in any medium, provided the work is properly cited
Processing practices and quality of crude palm oil produced on a small scale in Valença, Bahia, Brazil
This study aimed to compare the quality of crude palm oils (CPO) produced from different processing methods in Brazil: traditional (T-CPOE), little-mechanized (LM-CPOE) and semi-mechanized extraction (SM-CPOE). A total of 57 CPO samples were studied. The peroxide value (PV), total carotenoids (TC), oxidative stability index (OSI120), deterioration of bleachability index (DOBI), color (CIELab), total polar compounds (TPC) and its fractions, consisting of triacylglycerol polymers (TGP), dimers (TGD), oxidized monomers (oxTGM), diacylglycerols (DAG) and free fatty acids (FFA) were analyzed. Regardless of the extraction method, the PV, TC and OSI120 were found to be 3.1-7.6 meqO2/kg, 375-598 ppm, and 0.6-3.3 h, respectively. T-CPOE samples demonstrated superior quality based on DOBI and TPC. The TPC in the T-CPOE samples were significantly lower (8.7-9.6%) than in the other samples (11.9-18.5%). In all methods, the levels of compounds in the TPC fractions were DAG ≈ FFA > oxTGM > (TGP + TGD). Fruit selection and T-CPOE equipment played crucial roles in reducing oil degradation
