Electronic circuit implementation of chaos synchronization

In this paper, an electronic circuit implementation of a robustly chaotic two-dimensional map is presented. Two such electronic circuits are realized. One of the circuits is configured as the driver and the other circuit is configured as the driven system. Synchronization of chaos between the driver and the driven system is demonstrated

Long-distance entanglement and quantum teleportation in XX spin chains

Isotropic XX models of one-dimensional spin-1/2 chains are investigated with the aim to elucidate the formal structure and the physical properties that allow these systems to act as channels for long-distance, high-fidelity quantum teleportation. We introduce two types of models: I) open, dimerized XX chains, and II) open XX chains with small end bonds. For both models we obtain the exact expressions for the end-to-end correlations and the scaling of the energy gap with the length of the chain. We determine the end-to-end concurrence and show that model I) supports true long-distance entanglement at zero temperature, while model II) supports {\it ``quasi long-distance''} entanglement that slowly falls off with the size of the chain. Due to the different scalings of the gaps, respectively exponential for model I) and algebraic in model II), we demonstrate that the latter allows for efficient qubit teleportation with high fidelity in sufficiently long chains even at moderately low temperatures.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figure

Estresse salino e hídrico na germinação e vigor do arroz.

    Get PDF

On Higher Derivatives as Constraints in Field Theory: a Geometric Perspective

We formalize geometrically the idea that the (de Donder) Hamiltonian formulation of a higher derivative Lagrangian field theory can be constructed understanding the latter as a first derivative theory subjected to constraints.Comment: 7 page

Monte Carlo simulation of SU(2) Yang-Mills theory with light gluinos

    Get PDF
In a numerical Monte Carlo simulation of SU(2) Yang-Mills theory with light dynamical gluinos the low energy features of the dynamics as confinement and bound state mass spectrum are investigated. The motivation is supersymmetry at vanishing gluino mass. The performance of the applied two-step multi-bosonic dynamical fermion algorithm is discussed.Comment: latex, 48 pages, 16 figures with epsfi

Phenomenology Tools on Cloud Infrastructures using OpenStack

    Get PDF
We present a new environment for computations in particle physics phenomenology employing recent developments in cloud computing. On this environment users can create and manage "virtual" machines on which the phenomenology codes/tools can be deployed easily in an automated way. We analyze the performance of this environment based on "virtual" machines versus the utilization of "real" physical hardware. In this way we provide a qualitative result for the influence of the host operating system on the performance of a representative set of applications for phenomenology calculations.Comment: 25 pages, 12 figures; information on memory usage included, as well as minor modifications. Anderson-Fabry disease: Ten-year outcome of enzyme replacement therapy in a renal transplant patient

    Get PDF
Anderson‑Fabry disease (AFd) is a rare disorder characterised by the deficiency or absence of lysosomal enzymatic alpha‑galactosidase A activity (α‑Gal A) that leads to progressive and systemic accumulation of glycosphingolipids. The clinical manifestations are variable but kidney disease usually manifests before the fourth decade of life and chronic renal failure rapidly progresses to end‑stage renal disease (ESRD), requiring dialysis and kidney transplantation (KT). In patients with a definite diagnosis, enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) is recommended as soon as there are early clinical signs of kidney, heart or brain involvement. We present a case of a kidney transplant patient who was diagnosed with AFd nine years after KT, confirming the difficulty that may exist in na early diagnosis of this disease even among high‑risk groups. At this stage, in addition to renal damage, the patient already had advanced disease and established organ injury, including ocular, pulmonary, cerebrovascular and cardiac. He started agalsidase beta (Fabrazyme®) intravenously every two weeks at a dose of 1 mg/kg body weight. During ten years of treatment no major adverse events were reported and our experience indicates that ERT is a safe and effective treatment for extra‑renal Fabry manifestations in KT patientsinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Factors associated with postharvest ripening heterogeneity of "Hass" avocados (Persea americana Mill)

    Get PDF
Indexación: Web of ScienceIntroduction. 'Hass' is the main avocado cultivar commercialized worldwide. The extended flowering period, very low percentage of fruit set and inability to ripen on the tree renders the fruit heterogeneous and unpredictable during postharvest management. The "triggered" and "ready-to-eat" growing markets for 'Hass' avocados are affected by the variable postharvest ripening or ripening heterogeneity which creates severe logistical problems for marketers and inconsistent quality delivery to consumers. Synthesis. The dry matter content, the current avocado harvest index that correlates very well with oil content, has been extensively used to harvest 'Hass' avocados to comply with the minimum standards to guarantee consumer satisfaction. However, previous work and empirical experience demonstrate that dry matter does not correlate on a fruit-to-fruit basis with time to reach edible ripeness. Thus, avocados of very different ages are harvested from individual trees, resulting in heterogeneous postharvest ripening of fruit within a specific batch. Several preharvest factors related to environmental and growing conditions and crop management as well as postharvest technology strategies influence the observed variability of postharvest ripening. Conclusion. Modern approaches based on studying the composition of individual fruits displaying contrasting postharvest ripening behavior, combined with non-destructive phenotyping techniques, seem to offer practical solutions for the fresh supply chain of avocados to sort fruit based on their ripening capacity.http://www.pubhort.org/fruits/2016/5/fruits160045.ht
