The complex geometry of holographic flows of quiver gauge theories
We argue that the complete Klebanov-Witten flow solution must be described by
a Calabi-Yau metric on the conifold, interpolating between the orbifold at
infinity and the cone over T^(1,1) in the interior. We show that the complete
flow solution is characterized completely by a single, simple, quasi-linear,
second order PDE, or "master equation," in two variables. We show that the
Pilch-Warner flow solution is almost Calabi-Yau: It has a complex structure, a
hermitian metric, and a holomorphic (3,0)-form that is a square root of the
volume form. It is, however, not Kahler. We discuss the relationship between
the master equation derived here for Calabi-Yau geometries and such equations
encountered elsewhere and that govern supersymmetric backgrounds with multiple,
independent fluxes.Comment: 26 pages, harvmac + amssy
Assessment of aflatoxigenicAspergillusand other fungi in millet and sesame from Plateau State, Nigeria
Sixteen fonio millet and 17 sesame samples were analysed for incidence of moulds, especially aflatoxigenic Aspergillus species, in order to determine the safety of both crops to consumers, and to correlate aflatoxin levels in the crops with levels produced by toxigenic isolates on laboratory medium. Diverse moulds including Alternaria, Aspergillus, Cercospora, Fusarium, Mucor, Penicillium, Rhizopus and Trichoderma were isolated. Aspergillus was predominantly present in both crops (46â48%), and amongst the potentially aflatoxigenic Aspergillus species, A. flavus recorded the highest incidence (68% in fonio millet; 86% in sesame kernels). All A. parvisclerotigenus isolates produced B and G aflatoxins in culture while B aflatoxins were produced by only 39% and 20% of A. flavus strains isolated from the fonio millet and sesame kernels, respectively. Aflatoxin concentrations in fonio millet correlated inversely (r = â0.55; p = 0.02) with aflatoxin levels produced by toxigenic isolates on laboratory medium, but no correlation was observed in the case of the sesame samples. Both crops, especially sesame, may not be suitable substrates for aflatoxin biosynthesis. This is the first report on A. parvisclerotigenus in sesame
Structure factor of polymers interacting via a short range repulsive potential: application to hairy wormlike micelles
We use the Random Phase Approximation (RPA) to compute the structure factor,
S(q), of a solution of chains interacting through a soft and short range
repulsive potential V. Above a threshold polymer concentration, whose magnitude
is essentially controlled by the range of the potential, S(q) exhibits a peak
whose position depends on the concentration. We take advantage of the close
analogy between polymers and wormlike micelles and apply our model, using a
Gaussian function for V, to quantitatively analyze experimental small angle
neutron scattering profiles of semi-dilute solutions of hairy wormlike
micelles. These samples, which consist in surfactant self-assembled flexible
cylinders decorated by amphiphilic copolymer, provide indeed an appropriate
experimental model system to study the structure of sterically interacting
polymer solutions
The status of GEO 600
The GEO 600 laser interferometer with 600m armlength is part of a worldwide network of gravitational wave detectors. GEO 600 is unique in having advanced multiple pendulum suspensions with a monolithic last stage and in employing a signal recycled optical design. This paper describes the recent commissioning of the interferometer and its operation in signal recycled mode

Clinical Characterization of Patients Diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and Undergoing Conservative Management:A PIONEER Analysis Based on Big Data
Background: Conservative management is an option for prostate cancer (PCa) patients either with the objective of delaying or even avoiding curative therapy, or to wait until palliative treatment is needed. PIONEER, funded by the European Commission Innovative Medicines Initiative, aims at improving PCa care across Europe through the application of big data analytics. Objective: To describe the clinical characteristics and long-term outcomes of PCa patients on conservative management by using an international large network of real-world data. Design, setting, and participants: From an initial cohort of >100 000 000 adult individuals included in eight databases evaluated during a virtual study-a-thon hosted by PIONEER, we identified newly diagnosed PCa cases (n = 527 311). Among those, we selected patients who did not receive curative or palliative treatment within 6 mo from diagnosis (n = 123 146). Outcome measurements and statistical analysis: Patient and disease characteristics were reported. The number of patients who experienced the main study outcomes was quantified for each stratum and the overall cohort. Kaplan-Meier analyses were used to estimate the distribution of time to event data. Results and limitations: The most common comorbidities were hypertension (35â73%), obesity (9.2â54%), and type 2 diabetes (11â28%). The rate of PCa-related symptomatic progression ranged between 2.6% and 6.2%. Hospitalization (12â25%) and emergency department visits (10â14%) were common events during the 1st year of follow-up. The probability of being free from both palliative and curative treatments decreased during follow-up. Limitations include a lack of information on patients and disease characteristics and on treatment intent. Conclusions: Our results allow us to better understand the current landscape of patients with PCa managed with conservative treatment. PIONEER offers a unique opportunity to characterize the baseline features and outcomes of PCa patients managed conservatively using real-world data. Patient summary: Up to 25% of men with prostate cancer (PCa) managed conservatively experienced hospitalization and emergency department visits within the 1st year after diagnosis; 6% experienced PCa-related symptoms. The probability of receiving therapies for PCa decreased according to time elapsed after the diagnosis.</p
