Apparent Benzene Solubility in Tetraphenylborate Slurries
Personnel conducted testing to determine the apparent solubility of benzene in potassium tetraphenylborate (KTPB) slurries. The lack of benzene vapor pressure suppression in these tests indicate that for a 6.5 wt percent solids KTPB slurry in 4.65 M Na+ salt solution at approximately 25 degrees Celsius, no significant difference exists between the solubility of benzene in the slurry and the solubility of benzene in salt solution without KTPB solids. The work showed similar results in slurry with 6,000 mg/L sludge and 2,000 mg/L monosodium titanate added. Slurries containing tetraphenylborate decomposition intermediates (i.e., 4,200 mg/L triphenylboron (3PB), 510 mg/L diphenylborinic acid (2PB) and 1,500 mg/L phenylboric acid (1PB) or 100 mg/L tri-n-butylphosphate (TBP)) also showed no significant difference in benzene solubility form filtrate containing no KTPB solids. Slurry containing 2,000 mg/L Surfynol 420 did exhibit significant additional benzene solubility, as did irradiated slurries. The vapor pressure depression in the irradiated slurries presumably results from dissolution of biphenyl and other tetraphenylborate irradiation products in the benzene
Seismic data reveal eastern Black Sea Basin structure
Rifted continental margins are formed by progressive extension of the lithosphere. The development of these margins plays an integral role in the plate tectonic cycle, and an understanding of the extensional process underpins much hydrocarbon exploration. A key issue is whether the lithosphere extends uniformly, or whether extension varies\ud
with depth. Crustal extension may be determined using seismic techniques. Lithospheric extension may be inferred from the waterloaded subsidence history, determined from\ud
the pattern of sedimentation during and after rifting. Unfortunately, however, many rifted margins are sediment-starved, so the subsidence history is poorly known.\ud
To test whether extension varies between the crust and the mantle, a major seismic experiment was conducted in FebruaryâMarch 2005 in the eastern Black Sea Basin (Figure 1), a deep basin where the subsidence history is recorded\ud
by a thick, post-rift sedimentary sequence. The seismic data from the experiment indicate the presence of a thick, low-velocity zone, possibly representing overpressured sediments. They also indicate that the basement and\ud
Moho in the center of the basin are both several kilometers shallower than previously inferred. These initial observations may have considerable impact on thermal models of the petroleum system in the basin. Understanding\ud

Tracing Ghost Cavities with Low Frequency Radio Observations
We present X-ray and multi-frequency radio observations of the central radio
sources in several X-ray cavity systems. We show that targeted radio
observations are key to determining if the lobes are being actively fed by the
central AGN. Low frequency observations provide a unique way to study both the
lifecycle of the central radio source as well as its energy input into the ICM

AGN effect on cooling flow dynamics
We analyzed the feedback of AGN jets on cooling flow clusters using
three-dimensional AMR hydrodynamic simulations. We studied the interaction of
the jet with the intracluster medium and creation of low X-ray emission
cavities (Bubbles) in cluster plasma. The distribution of energy input by the
jet into the system was quantified in its different forms, i.e. internal,
kinetic and potential. We find that the energy associated with the bubbles, (pV
+ gamma pV/(gamma-1)), accounts for less than 10 percent of the jet energy.Comment: "Accepted for publication in Astrophysics & Space Science
Experimental determination of the surface density for the 6He exotic nucleus
Angular distributions for the elastic scattering of 4,6He on 58Ni have been measured at near-barrier energies.
The present data, combined with others for the 4He158Ni system at intermediate energies, allowed the
determination of the 4,6He ground-state nuclear densities through an unfolding method. The experimentally
extracted nuclear densities are compared with the results of theoretical calculations
First Results from the Arcminute Cosmology Bolometer Array Receiver
We review the first science results from the Arcminute Cosmology Bolometer
Array Receiver (ACBAR); a multifrequency millimeter-wave receiver optimized for
observations of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) and the
Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) effect in clusters of galaxies. ACBAR was installed on
the 2 m Viper telescope at the South Pole in January 2001 and the results
presented here incorporate data through July 2002. We present the power
spectrum of the CMB at 150 GHz over the range \ell = 150 - 3000 measured by
ACBAR as well as estimates for the values of the cosmological parameters within
the context of Lambda-CDM models. We find that the inclusion of Omega_Lambda
greatly improves the fit to the power spectrum. We also observe a slight excess
of small-scale anisotropy at 150 GHz; if interpreted as power from the SZ
effect of unresolved clusters, the measured signal is consistent with CBI and
BIMA within the context of the SZ power spectrum models tested.Comment: To be published in the proceedings of "The Cosmic Microwave

Potential Added Value of Psychological Capital in Predicting Work Attitudes
Meeting the challenge of effectively managing human resources requires new thinking and approaches. To extend the traditional perspective of economic capital, increasing recognition is being given to human capital and more recently social capital, this article proposes and empirically tests the potential added value that psychological capital may have for employee attitudes of satisfaction and commitment. After first providing the background and theory of PsyCap, this article reports a study of manufacturing employees (N = 74) that found a significant relationship between PsyCap and job satisfaction (r=.373) and organization commitment (r=.313). Importantly, the employeesâ PsyCap had a significant added impact over human and social capital on these work attitudes. Future research and practical implications conclude the article
A Study of the -component of the wave-function in light nuclei
We have measured cross sections for the reactions on
, , and in quasi-free
kinematics at incident pion beam energy 500 MeV. An enhancement of the
cross section in this kinematics is observed. If this is
interpreted as due to quasi-free scattering from pre-existing
components of the nuclear wave function, the extracted probabilities are in
