    Quantum-limited metrology and Bose-Einstein condensates

We discuss a quantum-metrology protocol designed to estimate a physical parameter in a Bose-Einstein condensate of N atoms, and we show that the measurement uncertainty can decrease faster than 1/N. The 1/N scaling is usually thought to be the best possible in any measurement scheme. From the perspective of quantum information theory, we outline the main idea that leads to a measurement uncertainty that scales better than 1/N. We examine in detail some potential problems and challenges that arise in implementing such a measurement protocol using a Bose-Einstein condensate. We discuss how some of these issues can be dealt with by using lower-dimensional condensates trapped in nonharmonic potentials.Comment: 32 pages, 1 figure, updated reference

CALCIUM ANALYSIS IN DIFFERENT DRINKS Abstract Two samples of black tea, a sample of orange pekoe variety Assam, two samples of toasted tea, four varieties of erva-mate, a freeze dried coffee sample were prepared by hot infusion, samples of skimmed powder milk and powder wholemilk and one instant isolated soy protein sample were prepared in hot water. These samples were purchased in markets in Curitiba to identify and analyze calcium content in comparison with Official methodologies were used and for all determinations three analyses were done. Black tea samples resulted minor calcium content (16.94 to 24.84 mg/ 100 mL). Toasted tea resulted major calcium amount with 78.39 mg/100 mL, similar to calcium amount of powder and soy milk. Erva-mate samples are comparable to calcium content in powder milk. Freeze dried coffee presented high calcium amount (141.68 mg/100 mL)

Background: Chlamydia trachomatis (Ct) is not a disease subject to mandatory reporting in Brazil, and the prevalence rate of this genital infection varies according to the region in which studies are conducted, as well as by the detection technique employed. Ct has been associated with persistence of Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and the facilitation of cervical carcinoma development. We evaluated the Chlamydia trachomatis infection and its association with cytology, p16/Ki-67 dual-stained cytology and cervical intraepithelial lesions status in a screening cohort in Brazil. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of 1481 cervical samples from asymptomatic women aged 18 to 64. Samples were collected for liquid-based cytology and Ct detection by polymerase chain reaction. p16/Ki-67 double staining was performed on samples with abnormal cytology. Statistical analysis was by chi-square and likelihood-ratio tests. Odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were determined. Results: The frequency of Ct was 15.6% and its presence was not associated with detection of p16/Ki-67 [OR = 1. 35 (0.5-3.4)]. There was also no association between abnormal cervical cytology and Ct-positivity [OR = 1.21 (0.46-3.2)]. Associations were observed between p16/Ki-67 and high-grade lesions detected by cytology and in biopsies [OR = 3.55 (1.50-8.42) and OR = 19.00 (0.6-7.2), respectively]. Conclusions: The asymptomatic women in our study had a high frequency of Ct infection but this was not associated with p16/Ki-67 detection in samples with abnormal cytology. The expression of p16/Ki-67 was highest in women with high-grade CIN (p = 0.003).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    One-dimension cubic-quintic Gross-Pitaevskii equation in Bose-Einstein condensates in a trap potential

By means of new general variational method we report a direct solution for the quintic self-focusing nonlinearity and cubic-quintic 1D Gross Pitaeskii equation (GPE) in a harmonic confined potential. We explore the influence of the 3D transversal motion generating a quintic nonlinear term on the ideal 1D pure cigar-like shape model for the attractive and repulsive atom-atom interaction in Bose Einstein condensates (BEC). Also, we offer a closed analytical expression for the evaluation of the error produced when solely the cubic nonlinear GPE is considered for the description of 1D BEC.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure
