Noise suppression in inverse weak value based phase detection
We examine the effect of different sources of technical noise on inverse weak
value-based precision phase measurements. We find that this type of measurement
is similarly robust to technical noise as related experiments in the weak value
regime. In particular, the measurements considered here are robust to additive
Gaussian white noise and angular jitter noise commonly encountered in optical
experiments. Additionally, we show the same techniques used for precision phase
measurement can be used with the same technical advantages for optical

Power-recycled weak-value-based metrology
We improve the precision of the interferometric weak-value-based beam
deflection measurement by introducing a power recycling mirror, creating a
resonant cavity. This results in \emph{all} the light exiting to the detector
with a large deflection, thus eliminating the inefficiency of the rare
postselection. The signal-to-noise ratio of the deflection is itself magnified
by the weak value. We discuss ways to realize this proposal, using a transverse

Symmetric mixed states of qubits: local unitary stabilizers and entanglement classes
We classify, up to local unitary equivalence, local unitary stabilizer Lie
algebras for symmetric mixed states into six classes. These include the
stabilizer types of the Werner states, the GHZ state and its generalizations,
and Dicke states. For all but the zero algebra, we classify entanglement types
(local unitary equivalence classes) of symmetric mixed states that have those
stabilizers. We make use of the identification of symmetric density matrices
with polynomials in three variables with real coefficients and apply the

In the southwest of Ireland and the Celtic Sea (ICES Divisions VIIaS, g & j), herring are an important commercial species to the pelagic and polyvalent fleet. For a period in the 1970s and1980s, larval surveys were conducted for herring in this area. However, since 1989, acoustic surveys have been carried out, and currently are the only tuning indices available for this stock. In the Celtic Sea and VIIj, herring acoustic surveys have been carried out since 1989. Since 2004 the survey has been fixed in October and carried out onboard the RV Celtic Explorer. The geographical confines of the annual 21 day survey have been modified in recent years to include areas to the south of the main winter spawning grounds in an effort to identify the whereabouts of winter spawning fish before the annual inshore spawning migration. Spatial resolution of acoustic transects has been increased over the entire south coast survey area. The acoustic component of the survey has been further complemented since 2004 by detailed hydrographic, marine mammal and seabird surveys
