Les limites du discours économique sur la publicité

It is often assumed that the negative impact of advertising is the basis from which economic studies in this area are to be undertaken. The authors state that the evidence supporting such a claim is far from obvious. In fact, the suggestion brought forth is that this assumption may be faulty. Specific areas of inquiry are suggested such as the cost of advertising in relation to marketing and manufacturing costs as well as the impact of advertising on GNP. The authors point out that from a demand analysis perspective, the eternal diseconomies in consumption due to advertising as claimed and condemned by economists, is really the result of the consumer's decision making process in the market place. The economists fail to take into account all of the social and psychological forces which impact on consumer behavior. Finally, the authors state that from a supply analysis orientation, no conclusion link has been found between advertising, industrial concentration and market power

Heating data and data scaling methods which can be used on representative solid rocket booster and external tank (ET) protuberances are described. Topics covered include (1) ET geometry and heating points; (2) interference heating test data (51A); (3) heat transfer data from tests FH-15 and FH-16; (4) individual protuberance data; and (5) interference heating of paint data from test IH-42. A set of drawings of the ET moldline and protuberances is included

Impaired Spatial Reorientation in the 3xTg-AD Mouse Model of Alzheimer's Disease.

In early Alzheimer's disease (AD) spatial navigation is impaired; however, the precise cause of this impairment is unclear. Recent evidence suggests that getting lost is one of the first impairments to emerge in AD. It is possible that getting lost represents a failure to use distal cues to get oriented in space. Therefore, we set out to look for impaired use of distal cues for spatial orientation in a mouse model of amyloidosis (3xTg-AD). To do this, we trained mice to shuttle to the end of a track and back to an enclosed start box to receive a water reward. Then, mice were trained to stop in an unmarked reward zone to receive a brain stimulation reward. The time required to remain in the zone for a reward was increased across training, and the track was positioned in a random start location for each trial. We found that 6-month female, but not 3-month female, 6-month male, or 12-month male, 3xTg-AD mice were impaired. 6-month male and female mice had only intracellular pathology and male mice had less pathology, particularly in the dorsal hippocampus. Thus, AD may cause spatial disorientation as a result of impaired use of landmarks

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The increase in bacterial resistance to antibiotics impels the development of new anti-bacterial substances. Mutacins (bacteriocins) are small antibacterial peptides produced by <it>Streptococcus mutans </it>showing activity against bacterial pathogens. The objective of the study was to produce and characterise additional mutacins in order to find new useful antibacterial substances.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Mutacin F-59.1 was produced in liquid media by <it>S. mutans </it>59.1 while production of mutacin D-123.1 by <it>S. mutans </it>123.1 was obtained in semi-solid media. Mutacins were purified by hydrophobic chromatography. The amino acid sequences of the mutacins were obtained by Edman degradation and their molecular mass was determined by mass spectrometry. Mutacin F-59.1 consists of 25 amino acids, containing the YGNGV consensus sequence of pediocin-like bacteriocins with a molecular mass calculated at 2719 Da. Mutacin D-123.1 has an identical molecular mass (2364 Da) with the same first 9 amino acids as mutacin I. Mutacins D-123.1 and F-59.1 have wide activity spectra inhibiting human and food-borne pathogens. The lantibiotic mutacin D-123.1 possesses a broader activity spectrum than mutacin F-59.1 against the bacterial strains tested.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Mutacin F-59.1 is the first pediocin-like bacteriocin identified and characterised that is produced by <it>Streptococcus mutans</it>. Mutacin D-123.1 appears to be identical to mutacin I previously identified in different strains of <it>S. mutans</it>.</p
