Pneumatosis Cystoides Intestinalis Induced by Acarbose Treatment
Recent advances in poly(Vinylidene fluoride) and its copolymers for lithium-ion battery separators
The separator membrane is an essential component of lithium-ion batteries, separating the anode and cathode, and controlling the number and mobility of the lithium ions. Among the polymer matrices most commonly investigated for battery separators are poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and its copolymers poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-trifluoroethylene) (PVDF-TrFE), poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP), and poly(vinylidene fluoride-cochlorotrifluoroethylene) (PVDF-CTFE), due to their excellent properties such as high polarity and the possibility of controlling the porosity of the materials through binary and ternary polymer/solvent systems, among others. This review presents the recent advances on battery separators based on PVDF and its copolymers for lithium-ion batteries. It is divided into the following sections: single polymer and co-polymers, surface modification, composites, and polymer blends. Further, a critical comparison between those membranes and other separator membranes is presented, as well as the future trends on this area.Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT): UID/FIS/04650/2013, PTDC/CTM-ENE/5387/2014, UID/CTM/50025/2013, project NO. 28157/02/SAICT/2017 and grants SFRH/BPD/112547/2015 (C.M.C.), including FEDER funds through the COMPETE 2020 programme and National Funds through FCT. A chip-size antenna for wireless EEG
This paper presents the design and characterization of a patch antenna built on lossy substrates compatible with integrated circuits fabrication. Two different substrates were used for antenna implementation: high-resistivity silicon (HRS) and Corning Pyrex #7740 glass. The antenna prototypes were built to operate close to the 5 GHz ISM band where applications like HIPERLAN and IEEE802.11a are standardized. They operate at a center frequency of 5.705 GHz (HRS) and 5.995 GHz (Pyrex). The application is a wireless wearable electroencephalogram (EEG) braincap. Wireless EEG allows patients to wear the braincap and maintain their mobility while simultaneously having their electrical brain activity monitored.Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) - SFRH/BD/4717/2001, POCTI/ESE/38468/2001)
Development of an Actuator for an Airdropped Platform Landing System
This work presents an actuation system that aims at improving the maneuvering capability during the landing phase of the LAICAnSat platform. The LAICAnSat is a low-cost, modular platform for high altitude applications, such as remote sensing, telecommunications, research, development and innovation within the aerospace field. The landing system uses a ram-air parachute that is actuated by servo motors located on a pseudo 2U CubeSat platform. This platform differs from the actual CubeSat standard due to the actuation mechanisms on the outside of a 2U standard module. A brake lines actuator is responsible for the directional, speed and glide ratio control. The paper provides details of the design, realization and testing of the actuation system, which represent a first attempt in the development of an autonomous landing system for the LAICAnSat
HEI teaching mobility: looking for dynamics in a seven-year period
Higher Education Institutions are currently embracing mobility as an imperative goal, particularly and most
impressively in the European Union countries where programs such as Erasmus+ strongly encourage students and staff
to participate. This exploratory research aims to characterize teaching mobility in one university, identify facilitators,
determine outcomes of repeated mobility, and provide clues on mobility dynamics over time. Qualitative and
quantitative data were collected from application forms and final reports submitted by 107 outgoing and 58 incoming
teachers in one university between 2009 and 2016. It was observed that teaching mobility covers diversified profiles
(e.g., gender, seniority, and fields of study). 23 out of 71 outgoing teachers participated in more than one mobility
program during that period. A deeper analysis on the mobility champions reveals both individual and team initiatives.
The results provide some interesting data on facilitators and consequences of teaching mobility.publishe
Digital skills of therapeutic radiographers/radiation therapists – Document analysis for a European educational curriculum
It is estimated that around 50% of cancer patients require Radiotherapy (RT) at some point during their treatment, hence Therapeutic Radiographers/Radiation Therapists (TR/RTTs) have a key role to play in patient management. It is essential for TR/RTTs to keep abreast with new technologies and continuously develop the digital skills necessary for safe RT practice. The RT profession and education is not regulated at European Union level, which leads to heterogeneity in the skills developed and practised among countries. This study aimed to explore the white and grey literature to collate data on the relevant digital skills required for TR/RTTs practice.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
