Percolation transition and dissipation in quantum Ising magnets
We study the effects of dissipation on a randomly diluted transverse-field
Ising magnet close to the percolation threshold. For weak transverse fields, a
novel percolation quantum phase transition separates a superparamagnetic
cluster phase from an inhomogeneously ordered ferromagnetic phase. The
properties of this transition are dominated by large frozen and slowly
fluctuating percolation clusters. This leads to a discontinuous
magnetization-field curve and exotic hysteresis phenomena as well as highly
singular behavior of magnetic susceptibility and specific heat. We compare our
results to the smeared transition in generic dissipative random quantum Ising
magnets. We also discuss the relation to metallic quantum magnets and other
experimental realizations.Comment: 4 pages, 2 eps figures, final version as publishe
Two-phase free boundary problems for a class of fully nonlinear double-divergence systems
In this article, we study a class of fully nonlinear double-divergence
systems with free boundaries associated with a minimization problem. The
variational structure of Hessian-dependent functional plays a fundamental role
in proving the existence of the minimizers and then the existence of the
solutions for the system. In addition, we establish gains of the integrability
for the double-divergence equation. Consequently, we improve the regularity for
the fully nonlinear equation in Sobolev and H\"older spaces.Comment: 17 pages, 1 figur
Small volume expansion of almost supersymmetric large N theories
We consider the small-volume dynamics of nonsupersymmetric orbifold and
orientifold field theories defined on a three-torus, in a test of the claimed
planar equivalence between these models and appropriate supersymmetric ``parent
models". We study one-loop effective potentials over the moduli space of flat
connections and find that planar equivalence is preserved for suitable averages
over the moduli space. On the other hand, strong nonlinear effects produce
local violations of planar equivalence at special points of moduli space. In
the case of orbifold models, these effects show that the "twisted" sector
dominates the low-energy dynamics.Comment: 20 pages, 3 figures; added references, minor change
A Search Engine Optimization Recommender System
International audienceSearch Engine Optimization reefers to the process of im- proving the position of a given website in a web search engine results. This is typically done by adding a set of parameters and metadata to the hypertext files of the website. As nowadays the majority of the web-content creators are non-experts, automation of the search en- gine optimization process becomes a necessity. On this regard, this paper presents a recommender system to improve search engine op- timization based on the site’s content and creator’s preferences. It exploits text analysis for labels and tags, artificial intelligence for deducing content intention and topics, and case-based reasoning for generating recommendations of parameters and metadata. Recom- mendations are given in natural language using a predefined set of sentences
The DEEP2 Galaxy Redshift Survey: Discovery of Luminous, Metal-poor, Sta r-forming Galaxies at Redshifts z~0.7
We have discovered a sample of 17 metal-poor, yet luminous, star-forming
galaxies at redshifts z~0.7. They were selected from the initial phase of the
DEEP2 survey of 3900 galaxies and the Team Keck Redshift Survey (TKRS) of 1536
galaxies as those showing the temperature-sensitive [OIII]l4363 auroral line.
These rare galaxies have blue luminosities close to L*, high star formation
rates of 5 to 12 solar masses per year, and oxygen abundances of 1/3 to 1/10
solar. They thus lie significantly off the luminosity-metallicity relation
found previously for field galaxies with strong emission lines at redshifts
z~0.7. The prior surveys relied on indirect, empirical calibrations of the R23
diagnostic and the assumption that luminous galaxies are not metal-poor. Our
discovery suggests that this assumption is sometimes invalid. As a class, these
newly-discovered galaxies are: (1) more metal-poor than common classes of
bright emission-line galaxies at z~0.7 or at the present epoch; (2) comparable
in metallicity to z~3 Lyman Break Galaxies but less luminous; and (3)
comparable in metallicity to local metal-poor eXtreme Blue Compact Galaxies
(XBCGs), but more luminous. Together, the three samples suggest that the
most-luminous, metal-poor, compact galaxies become fainter over time.Comment: This is a .tgz file. It should create the following files: texto.tex,
