Web Service Discovery – Reality Check 2.0

In practice the ability to find the right Web service decides between a functionality being implemented anew and at least the possibility of executing it via a service. This report evaluates existing public portals for Web service discovery with respect to their characteristics and their acceptance by developers. For this, we distinguish different possible settings and use cases and evaluate how these are supported in practice. Only few of the publicly available Web service registries are growing in size and importance, with the use case best supported being the pre-programming phase of evaluation of the service landscape. <br

Cytokines in Clinical and Experimental Transplantation

    Get PDF
Allograft rejection is a complex process, which requires interactions between different cell types and a variety of soluble factors, such as cytokines. In this review we discuss the role of cytokines in the induction and effector phases of the rejection process and in the induction and maintenance of allospecific graft tolerance. Furthermore, we discuss the feasibility of clinical graft function monitoring by measuring cytokines and the possibilities for intervention in the cytokine network in order to inhibit graft rejection and eventually obtain graft acceptance

Possible explanations for different surface quality in laser cutting with 1 micron and 10 microns beams

In laser cutting of thick steel sheets, quality difference is observed between cut surfaces obtained with 1 micron and 10 micron laser beams. This paper investigates physical mechanisms for this interesting and important problem of the wavelength dependence. First, striation generation process is described, based on a 3D structure of melt flow on a kerf front, which was revealed for the first time by our recent experimental observations. Two fundamental processes are suggested to explain the difference in the cut surface quality: destabilization of the melt flow in the central part of the kerf front and downward displacement of discrete melt accumulations along the side parts of the front. Then each of the processes is analyzed using a simplified analytical model. The results show that in both processes, different angular dependence of the absorptivity of the laser beam can result in the quality difference. Finally we propose use of radial polarization to improve the quality with the 1 micron wavelength

Effectiveness of late-life depression interventions on functional limitations:A systematic review

    Get PDF
Depression is one of the most prevalent mental disorders in older adults and leads to considerable decreases in health, well-being, and impaired functioning. Intervention studies have focused on the effects on symptomatic recovery, and most do not include functional recovery as an outcome. Reduction of functional limitations as a treatment goal in old-age psychiatry aligns with the values of older persons. The objective of this review was therefore to evaluate the effectiveness of late-life depression interventions on functional limitations. This systematic review identified 15 randomized controlled trials in which the effectiveness of different interventions on functional limitations was evaluated in patients with late-life depression. The interventions were categorized into four categories: psychological interventions, drug treatment, physical exercise, and collaborative care. Multicomponent and collaborative-care interventions appear to be the most promising for improvement of functional limitations, particularly in primary care and community-dwelling populations of older persons with symptoms of depression. There is, however, a lack of evidence regarding studies in specialized mental health care
