    Get PDF
In this paper, the nonlinear thermal analysis of functionally graded material (FGM) plate with material variation parameter (n), boundary conditions, aspect ratios and side to thickness ratios is investigated using higher order displacement model. The derivation of equations of motion for higher order displacement model is obtained using principle of virtual work. The nonlinear simultaneous equations are obtained by Navier's method considering certain parameters, loads and boundary conditions. The nonlinear algebraic equations are solved using Newton Raphson iterative method. The effect of shear deformation and nonlinearity response of functionally graded material is investigated. Introduction. Distributed generation has played an important role in many aspects of sustainability, such as improving voltage profiles and reducing power losses, in the distribution network. Problem. Frequent variation of loads causes many complications while placing and sizing of distributed generation in the radial distribution network, via quality of supply, and stability of the system. Goal of the paper is to investigate and mitigate the power quality issues towards stabilizing the system during distributed generations placed in the system under various loading conditions. Methodology. The line voltage stability index analyses and enhances the performance of the radial distribution network by effective sizing and location of distributed generation towards the objective function. Practical value. A standard test system IEEE-69 bus radial distribution network is used to understand through MATLAB environment.

Surgical treatment of scaphoid fractures has evolved over the years to include variety of procedures and techniques. However scaphoid middle and distal third fractures fixation with Herbert screw by means of volar approach is a safe and effective method with good functional outcome and union rates. Our study concluded that management of middle and distal third scaphoid fractures with Herbert screw by volar approach gives excellent results in terms of union and recovery to daily activities. The wrist function improvement is more satisfactory, and the incidence of complications is low with this modality of treatment

Buckling Analysis of Functionally Graded Material Plates Using Higher Order Shear Deformation Theory

The prime aim of the present study is to present analytical formulations and solutions for the buckling analysis of simply supported functionally graded plates (FGPs) using higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT) without enforcing zero transverse shear stresses on the top and bottom surfaces of the plate. It does not require shear correction factors and transverse shear stresses vary parabolically across the thickness. Material properties of the plate are assumed to vary in the thickness direction according to a power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The equations of motion and boundary conditions are derived using the principle of virtual work. Solutions are obtained for FGPs in closed-form using Navier’s technique. Comparison studies are performed to verify the validity of the present results from which it can be concluded that the proposed theory is accurate and efficient in predicting the buckling behavior of functionally graded plates. The effect of side-to-thickness ratio, aspect ratio, modulus ratio, the volume fraction exponent, and the loading conditions on the critical buckling load of FGPs is also investigated and discussed

Antioxidant activity of commonly consumed cereals, millets, pulses and legumes in India

112-115Plant foods are important due to their antioxidant activity (AOA) attributed to the phenolics which are known to protect organisms against harmful effects of oxygen radicals. However, information on antioxidant activity of Indian plant foods is scanty. Therefore, the present study evaluated the AOA of cereals, millets, pulses and legumes, commonly consumed in India and assessed the relationship with their total phenolic content (TPC). AOA was assessed by DPPH (2,2-Diphenyl-1-picryl hydrazyl) radical scavenging assay, ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay and reducing power. DPPH scavenging activity ranged from 0.24 and 1.73 mg/g, whereas FRAP ranged from 16.21 to 471.71 µmoles/g. Finger millet (Eleusine cora cana) and Rajmah (Phaseolus vulgaris) had the highest FRAP 471.71, 372.76 and DPPH scavenging activity 1.73, 1.07. Similar trends were observed with reducing power. Among cereals and legumes, Finger millet (Ragi) and black gram dhal (Phaseolus mungo Roxb) had the highest TPC, the values being 373 and 418 mg/100 g respectively, while rice (Oryza sativa) and green gram dhal (Phaseolus aureus Roxb) showed the least (47.6 and 62.4 mg/100 g). In the present study, FRAP (r = 0.91) and reducing power (r = 0.90) showed significant correlation with TPC in cereals and millets, but not in pulses and legumes. The results suggest that TPC contributes significantly to the AOA of Indian cereals and millets

Hybrid DC-DC Converter with Artificial Intelligence based MPPT Algorithm for FC-EV

539-535This manuscript covers the use of a Brushless DC Motor (BLDC) based on a fuel cell in an electric vehicle with a hybrid DC-DC converter with artificial intelligence-based Maximum Power Point (MPP) Tracking. The Boost converter and Cuk converter input stages are integrated in this study to produce a high step-up hybrid boost converter. Only one switch is required in the proposed topology, which decreases voltage stress across the diodes. The converter's overall efficiency increased because the voltage across the switch, diode, and capacitor voltage is less than the output voltage. A new Radial Basis Function Network (RBFN) based MPPT approach is developed for fuel cells based electric vehicles to extract maximum power at ambient temperatures. Computer software programme MATLAB/SIMULINK is used to evaluate the Fuel Cell (FC) fed electric vehicle system
