PDB60 ASSOCIATION OF INADEQUATE METABOLIC CONTROL AND CO-MORBIDITIES AND HEALTH RESOURCE UTILIZATION IN PATIENTS WITH DIABETES MELLITUS IN A SPANISH POPULATION
A system of three transiting super-Earths in a cool dwarf star
We present the detection of three super-Earths transiting the cool star
LP415-17, monitored by K2 mission in its 13th campaign. High resolution spectra
obtained with HARPS-N/TNG showed that the star is a mid-late K dwarf. Using
spectral synthesis models we infer its effective temperature, surface gravity
and metallicity and subse- quently determined from evolutionary models a
stellar radius of 0.58 R Sun. The planets have radii of 1.8, 2.6 and 1.9 R
Earth and orbital periods of 6.34, 13.85 and 40.72 days. High resolution images
discard any significant contamination by an intervening star in the line of
sight. The orbit of the furthest planet has radius of 0.18 AU, close to the
inner edge of the habitable zone. The system is suitable to improve our
understanding of formation and dynamical evolution of super-Earth systems in
the rocky - gaseous threshold, their atmospheres, internal structure,

Estado de micorrización de árboles truferos en función de su carácter productivo y su edad. Primeros resultados del Subproyecto 1 del Plan de Desarrollo Integral de la Truficultura de Teruel
La truficultura es una actividad con clara dimensión forestal, entre otras razones porque las especies implicadas, tanto el hongo como su árbol simbionte, son de gran valor silvícola.
Además, la truficultura y la selvicultura trufera son prácticas que contribuyen a la
recuperación de masas forestales y zonas potencialmente boscosas, con el valor añadido de la obtención de las trufas, de modo, en la mayor parte de las ocasiones, totalmente ecológico.
El Plan Específico para Teruel (PET) integra varias actuaciones promovidas por el Gobierno
Español entre las que se encuentra la ejecución de un Proyecto de Investigación denominado “Desarrollo Integral de la Truficultura de Teruel”, financiado por INIA, en el que se pretende apoyar al sector trufero turolense mediante el conocimiento y la mejora de sus técnicas de cultivo, producción y comercialización.
La presente comunicación resume los primeros resultados obtenidos en uno de los 7 subproyectos que lo integran y que afecta al estudio del cortejo micorrícico de los árboles de las plantaciones, productoras o no, y su relación con la producción.
La composición micorrícica de los árboles truferos es un factor esencial para realizar
predicciones sobre la producción futura. Tanto la ausencia de micorrizas de trufa negra como la detección de otras, capaces de desplazar a la primera de las raíces de los árboles, puede permitir el diagnóstico precoz de fracasos de plantaciones y por lo tanto el ahorro de muchos años de cuidados a la espera de las primeras recolecciones.
Para el estudio, se han seleccionado 3 grupos de plantaciones por edad, con 2 localizaciones distintas. Se está desarrollando un inventario periódico de las micorrizas presentes en un total de 48 árboles. Se propone una clasificación de las mismas en función de su capacidad para
comprometer la producción de trufa negra, factor que se ha determinado en base al carácter productor o no productor de cada árbol
Improved Performance of an Epoxy Matrix as a Result of Combining Graphene Oxide and Reduced Graphene
We present an easy and effective way to improve the mechanical properties of an epoxy matrix by reinforcing it with a combination of graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (RGO). These nanocomposites were prepared with different load of nanofillers: 0.1, 0.4, 0.7, 1.0 wt% and a neat epoxy. Ratios of graphene oxide and reduced graphene (GO : RGO) employed were: 0 : 1, 0.25 : 0.75, 0.5 : 0.5, 0.75 : 0.25, and 1 : 0. Results show that with only 0.4 wt% and a ratio 0.2 : 0.75 of GO : RGO, tensile strength and tensile toughness are 52% and 152% higher than neat epoxy while modulus of elasticity was improved ~20%. The obtained results suggest that it is possible achieve advantageous properties by combining graphene in oxidized and reduced conditions as it shows a synergic effect by the presence of both nanofillers
An open prospective study on the efficacy of Navina Smart, an electronic system for transanal irrigation, in neurogenic bowel dysfunction
Background:
Transanal irrigation (TAI) has emerged as a key option when more conservative bowel management does not help spinal cord injured (SCI) individuals with neurogenic bowel dysfunction (NBD).
Aim:
To investigate the short-term efficacy and safety of an electronic TAI system (Navina Smart) in subjects with NBD.
Design:
We present an open, prospective efficacy study on Navina Smart, in individuals with NBD secondary to SCI, studied at three months.
Population:
Eighty-nine consecutive consenting established SCI individuals (61 male; mean age 48, range 18–77) naïve to TAI treatment were recruited from ten centres in seven countries. Subjects had confirmed NBD of at least moderate severity (NBD score ≥10).
Methods:
Subjects were taught how to use the device at baseline assisted by the Navina Smart app, and treatment was tailored during phone calls until optimal TAI regime was achieved. The NBD score was measured at baseline and at three months follow up (mean 98 days). Safety analysis was performed on the complete population while per protocol (PP) analysis was performed on 52 subjects.
Results:
PP analysis showed a significant decrease in mean NBD score (17.8 to 10, p<0.00001). In subjects with severe symptoms (defined as NBD score ≥14), mean NBD scores decreased (19.4 to 10.9, p<0.0001). The number of subjects with severe symptoms decreased from 41 (79%) subjects at baseline to 16 (31%) at three months follow-up. Device failure accounted for the commonest cause for loss of data. Side effects possibly related to the device developed in 11 subjects (12%). Discontinuation due to failure of therapy to relieve symptoms was reported by 5 subjects (6%).
Conclusion:
Navina Smart is effective for individuals with NBD, even those with severe symptoms; long-term data will follow. Whilst there were some device problems (addressed by the later stages of subject recruitment) the treatment was generally safe

Pseudospin Order in Monolayer, Bilayer, and Double-Layer Graphene
Graphene is a gapless semiconductor in which conduction and valence band
wavefunctions differ only in the phase difference between their projections
onto the two sublattices of the material's two-dimensional honeycomb crystal
structure. We explain why this circumstance creates openings for broken
symmetry states, including antiferromagnetic states in monolayer and bilayer
graphene and exciton condensates in double-layer graphene, that are momentum
space analogs of the real-space order common in systems with strong local
interactions. We discuss some similarities among, and some differences between,

The highly prevalent BRCA2 mutation c.2808_2811del (3036delACAA) is located in a mutational hotspot and has multiple origins
BRCA2-c.2808_2811del (3036delACAA) is one of the most reported
germ line mutations in non-Ashkenazi breast cancer patients. We
investigated its genetic origin in 51 Spanish carrier families that
were genotyped with 11 13q polymorphic markers. Three independent
associated haplotypes were clearly distinguished accounting for
23 [west Castilla y León (WCL)], 20 [east Castilla y León (ECL)]
and 6 (South of Spain) families. Mutation age was estimated with
the Disequilibrium Mapping using Likelihood Estimation software
in a range of 45–68 and 45–71 generations for WCL and ECL haplotypes,
respectively. The most prevalent variants, c.2808_2811del
and c.2803G > A, were located in a double-hairpin loop structure
(c.2794–c.2825) predicted by Quikfold that was proposed as a mutational
hotspot. To check this hypothesis, random mutagenesis was
performed over a 923 bp fragment of BRCA2, and 86 DNA variants
were characterized. Interestingly, three mutations reported in the
mutation databases (c.2680G > A, c.2944del and c.2957dup) were
replicated and 20 affected the same position with different nucleotide
changes. Moreover, five variants were placed in the same hairpin loop
of c.2808_2811del, and one affected the same position (c.2808A > G).
In conclusion, our results support that at least three different mutational
events occurred to generate c.2808_2811del. Other highly
prevalent DNA variants, such as BRCA1-c.68_69delAG, BRCA2-
c.5946delT and c.8537delAG, are concentrated in hairpin loops, suggesting
that these structures may represent mutational hotspots
