Dislocation nucleation in shocked fcc solids: effects of temperature and preexisting voids

Quantitative behaviors of shock-induced dislocation nucleation are investigated by means of molecular dynamics simulations on fcc Lennard-Jones solids: a model Argon. In perfect crystals, it is found that Hugoniot elastic limit (HEL) is a linearly decreasing function of temperature: from near-zero to melting temperatures. In a defective crystal with a void, dislocations are found to nucleate on the void surface. Also HEL drastically decreases to 15 percent of the perfect crystal when a void radius is 3.4 nanometer. The decrease of HEL becomes larger as the void radius increases, but HEL becomes insensitive to temperature.Comment: 4 pages. (ver.2) All figures have been revised. Two citations are newly added. Numerical unit is unified in the context of solid argon. (ver. 3) A minor revision including new reference

A multi-sensing physical therapy assessment for children with cerebral palsy

    Get PDF
This work presents the development of a multi-sensing interface called Palsy Thera Sense, to provide information data obtained during physical therapy of the children with cerebral palsy. It allows the monitoring the children's motor skills, and provide metrics that can be later used for proper and effective training. This interface is based on distributed force measurement system characterized by two different load cells. The signals from signals from the load cells distributed on the level of a force platform and at the level of child's body support ropes that are tied on the cerebral palsy spider cage are acquired and wireless transmitted to a client computation platform. Thus different tests can be carried out including, center of forces measurements and gait simulations. These tests can be study of children balance during different activities such as serious game playing for upper limb rehabilitation. The interface shown to be an important tool that provide support to cerebral palsy rehabilitation process, and for objective evaluation of the patients during the rehabilitation period. Several experimental results are included in the paper highlighting the capabilities of the designed and implemented multi-sensing system.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

    Environmental assessment: The Eden project

Non domestic buildings account for about one-sixth of the U.K.'s entire C02 emissions and one-third of the building related ones 2 . Their proportion of energy consumption, particularly electricity, has also been growing 2 . New buildings are not necessarily better, with energy use often proving to be much higher than their designers anticipated 2 . Annual C02 emissions of two- and sometimes three- times design expectations are far from unusual, leaving a massive credibility gap 2 . These and other global environmental and human health related concerns have motivated an increasing number of designers, developers and building users to pursue more environmentally sustainable designs and construction strategies 5 . However, these buildings can be difficult to evaluate, since they are large in scale, complex in materials and function and temporally dynamic due to limited service life of building components and changing user requirements 5 . All of these factors make environmental assessment of the buildings challenging. Previous Post Occupancy Review of Buildings and their Engineering (PROBE) building investigations have uncovered serious shortcomings in facilities management, or at least mismatches between a building's management needs and the ability of the occupiers to provide the right level of management 1 . Consequently, large differences between energy performance expectations and outcomes can occur virtually unnoticed, while designers continue to repeat flawed descriptions 2 . This investigation attempts to evaluate the building's operation and to help achieving demonstrable improvements in terms of energy efficiency and occupant satisfaction. The scope of this study is to evaluate the actual environmental performance of a building notable for its advanced design. The Education Resource Centre at the Eden Project was selected to compare design expectations with post occupancy performance. This report contains a small-scale survey of user satisfaction with the chosen building, an analysis of the building's energy use and information about the physical and managerial circumstances operating 24 . The author has attempted to zoom in on specific issues, such as energy performance and lighting consumption. Both successes and failures have been reported, providing owners, designers and end users with valuable, real-world information

The purpose of this research was to know the degree participant of members Milik Bersama cooperation in Bukit Lingkar, Batang Cenaku in indragiri hulu regency. This research used survey method. The total of sample this research was 42 people who gain by using formula slovin. This research was using random sampling. The sample found randomly from 889 members Milik Bersama cooperation. The collecting data of this research was using primary data and secondary data. To analyze the degree and the problems at participation of this research was using descriptive method. To obtain the degree of participation of getting result at meeting, implementation of participant in cooperation activities, participant to gain the function of service, and evaluation of programs cooperation. The degree of members participation measured by using quesioner of Likert Scale. The degree participant of members Milik Bersama cooperation in Bukit Lingkar, Batang Cenaku, Indragiri Hulu Regency was high with score 3,64. High of the degree participant on members Milik Bersama Cooperation support by high participant members on meeting, implementation, service, also evaluation programs of cooperation. In another side, the programs Milik Bersama Cooperation in Bukit Lingkar, Batang Cenaku, Indragiri Hulu Regency had some problems that related by the degree of participant were pasif on cooperation activities, attendance, lack gave ideas on meeting, less armada dum truck, and participant on activity and evaluation of programs Milik Bersama Cooperation

Design of an artificial neural network and feature extraction to identify arrhythmias from ECG

    Get PDF
This paper presents a design of an artificial neural network (ANN) and feature extraction methods to identify two types of arrhythmias in datasets obtained through electrocardiography (ECG) signals, namely arrhythmia dataset (AD) and supraventricular arrhythmia dataset (SAD). No special ANN toolkit was used; instead, each neuron and necessary calculus were modeled and individually programmed. Thus, four temporal-based features are used: heart rate (HR), R-peaks root mean square (R-RMS), RR-peaks variance (RR-VAR), and QSR-complex standard deviation (QSR-SD). The network architecture presents four neurons in the input layer, eight in hidden layer and an output layer with two neurons. The proposed classification method uses the MIT-BIH Dataset (Massachusetts Institute of Technology-Beth Israel Hospital) for training, validation and execution or test phases. Preliminary results show the high efficiency of the proposed ANN design and its classification method, reaching accuracies between 98.76% and 98.91%, when in the identification of NSRD and arrhythmic ECG; and accuracies of 86.37% (AD) and 76.35% (SAD), when analyzing only classifications between both arrhythmias.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
