Profile of a cell test database and a corresponding reliability database
The development of computerized control, and data retrieval for aerospace cell testing affords an excellent opportunity to incorporate three specific concepts to both manage the test area and to track product performance on a real-time basis. The adoption and incorporation of precepts fostered by this total quality management (TQM) initiative are critical to us for retaining control of our business while substantially reducing the separate quality control inspection activity. Test discrepancies are all 'equally bad' in cell acceptance testing because, for example, we presently do not discriminate between 1 or 25 mV for an overvoltage condition. We must take leadership in classifying such discrepancies in order to expedite their clearance and redirect our resources for prevention activities. The development and use of engineering alerts (or guardbanding) which more closely match our product capabilities and are toleranced tighter than the required customer specification are paramount to managing the test unit in order to remain both quality and cost effective
Public Transportation Ridership Levels
This article uses linear regression analysis to examine the determinants of public transportation ridership in over 100 U. S. cities in 2007. The primary determinant of ridership appears to be availability of public transportation service. In fact, the relationship is nearly one to one: a 1% increase in availability is associated with a 1% increase in ridership. The relative unimportance of price may be an indicator of the heavy subsidization of fares in most cities, leaving availability as the more effective policy tool to encourage use of public transport.identification, public transportation, ridership
An assessment and validation study of nuclear reactors for low power space applications
The feasibility and safety of six conceptual small, low power nuclear reactor designs was evaluated. Feasibility evaluations included the determination of sufficient reactivity margins for seven years of full power operation and safe shutdown as well as handling during pre-launch assembly phases. Safety evaluations were concerned with the potential for maintaining subcritical conditions in the event of launch or transportation accidents. These included water immersion accident scenarios both with and without water flooding the core. Results show that most of the concepts can potentially meet the feasibility and safety requirements; however, due to the preliminary nature of the designs considered, more detailed designs will be necessary to enable these concepts to fully meet the safety requirements
An Unsplit, Cell-Centered Godunov Method for Ideal MHD
We present a second-order Godunov algorithm for multidimensional, ideal MHD.
Our algorithm is based on the unsplit formulation of Colella (J. Comput. Phys.
vol. 87, 1990), with all of the primary dependent variables centered at the
same location. To properly represent the divergence-free condition of the
magnetic fields, we apply a discrete projection to the intermediate values of
the field at cell faces, and apply a filter to the primary dependent variables
at the end of each time step. We test the method against a suite of linear and
nonlinear tests to ascertain accuracy and stability of the scheme under a
variety of conditions. The test suite includes rotated planar linear waves, MHD
shock tube problems, low-beta flux tubes, and a magnetized rotor problem. For
all of these cases, we observe that the algorithm is second-order accurate for
smooth solutions, converges to the correct weak solution for problems involving
shocks, and exhibits no evidence of instability or loss of accuracy due to the

Stability of the proton-to-electron mass ratio
We report a limit on the fractional temporal variation of the
proton-to-electron mass ratio as, obtained by comparing the frequency of a
rovibrational transition in SF6 with the fundamental hyperfine transition in
Cs. The SF6 transition was accessed using a CO2 laser to interrogate spatial
2-photon Ramsey fringes. The atomic transition was accessed using a primary
